State Professional Drama Festival to begin on May 26
The Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi will host the State Professional Drama Festival at the K.T. Muhammed Theatre in Thrissur from May 26 to 30 . The festival will feature a vibrant line-up of plays.
Film director Kamal will inaugurate the festival on May 26 at 9.30 a.m. Akademi Chairman Mattannur Sankarankutty will preside over the function. Executive Committee member Saheer Ali will deliver a keynote address, while Akademi Secretary Karivellur Murali and programme officer V.K. Anilkumar will also participate.
Mithaitheruvu by Rangabhasha, Kozhikode, will the first play that will be staged at 10.30 a.m. on May 26.
Other plays to be staged are Uthamante Sankeerthanam by Chandrakantha, Alappuzha; Vanitha Mess by Deva Communications, Kayamkulam; Report No. 79 by Sahrudayanandini Natana Sabha, Thiruvananthapuram; Vazhvemayam by Brahma, Valluvanad; Yathra by Gandhibhavan Theatre, Pathanapuram; Lakshmanarekha by Sanghakeli, Thiruvananthapuram; Muchheettukalikkarante Makal by Sahithi Theatres, Thiruvananthapuram; Dracula by Aniyara, Changanassery, and Ummaachu by the KPAC
Entry to all performances is free. However, spectators will only be allowed into the theatre 30 minutes before the start of each play, according to the Akademi Secretary.

If the media and the news, and people become smarter (and understand) that actors are not the ones to advocate for the way society lives - it will be a better place. I think you should look at scholars, politicians and learned men and women to lead a way into society.' His Rana Naidu co-star Abhishek also agreed with Rana and compared it to the Marathi-Bihari conflict in Maharashtra and said, 'When I came to Bombay many years back, I heard the same thing about the Marathi-Bihari and Kannada-Tamil conflict, which has been going on. I feel it's completely worthless and useless. People who don't have anything better to do, will just try and get attention while doing this.' He also stated that language is great when used to educate people and cultivate culture, rather than to cause divide. Thug Life will be released across the country on 5 June except for Karnataka. It remains to be seen if the move will affect its box office collections.

Chennai, June 4 (UNI) Actor-politician Kamal Hassan, who was mired in a controversy over his Kannada language remarks and the Karnataka High Court to pulling him up for his refusal to apologise, the actor on Wednesday thanked the people of Tamil Nadu for the support and for understanding what he had said, even as the ruling DMK too came in support of him an justified his remark. During the audio release event of his upcoming film 'Thug Life', Kamal had said Kannada language evolved from Tamil, leading to a public uproar a with several pro-Kannada outfits staging protests across Karnataka demanding an apology, besides demanding a ban on the release of the film in that State. Talking to reporters here along the film crew, the actor profusely acknowledged the support he had received from the people of Tamil Nadu. 'I understand the meaning of what I had spoken 'Uyire, Urave, Thamizhe' (Tamil, my life, my lifeline). I should thank the entire state of Tamil Nadu which stood behind me at this hour,' he said, without elaborating further.
