Sky News host Peta Credlin says the Albanese government's 'energy trainwreck' is 'getting worse'.
'If, and it's a big, big if, the government's planned increase from the current 40 per cent of our power from renewables to 82 per cent in just five years is ever going to work, we desperately need more gas,' Ms Credlin said.
'Gas is the only way to keep the lights on when the sun drops or the wind disappears in a largely renewables-powered grid.'

Minister accused of intervention in penalty rates case

The Fair Work Commission is considering delaying its ruling on whether retailers should be able to waive penalty rates in return for offering a 35 per cent pay rise after the Albanese government flagged laws to block the move were imminent. In what employers called 'a highly unusual intervention', new Workplace Relations Minister Amanda Rishworth wrote to FWC president Justice Adam Hatcher last week to advise she planned to legislate to ban reductions in award penalty rates 'as soon as possible' and highlighted the government's opposition to the retailers' penalty rates case.

‘World is a dangerous place': Jim Chalmers discusses Australia's defence funding

Treasurer Jim Chalmers speaks on the relationship between the United States and Australia following demands for increased defence expenditure from the US. 'Our funding for defence is determined by our government, we obviously take into consideration what is happening in the world and the views of our allies,' Mr Chalmers said at a media conference on Wednesday. 'The world is a dangerous place, it's dangerous in security terms, it's dangerous in economic terms. 'I think one of the defining influences on this second term on this Albanese government will be what is shaped by global circumstances, certainly in the defence sphere.'

How specialist fees of $900 per visit are hurting private hospitals

Private health insurers say the out-of-pocket cost of seeing a specialist doctor has become so expensive that many Australians are deferring critical medical care, and that this is a key reason private hospitals are struggling to fill beds. Health funds, which are under pressure to give hospitals more money, will on Thursday ask the Albanese government to address the steep rise in doctor fees not currently covered by private insurance, meaning patients often pay hundreds of dollars for a consultation.
