HOUSTON, June 15 — An incident at the US Army's Fort Cavazos in central Texas was being investigated, CBS News said late yesterday, but there was no active shooter and no lockdown.
The broadcaster had earlier reported the base, formerly called Fort Hood, was under lockdown and military officials were responding to reports of a potential active shooter at the facility.
In the later report, CBS said base authorities were investigating an incident at the Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area involving two people. — Reuters

Cops seek woman's help after alleged ‘indecent proposal' by police officer

Screengrab from the video showing a conversation between a woman and a police officer, allegedly containing suggestive remarks. PETALING JAYA : Police have urged a woman, featured in a viral video in which an officer is heard making suggestive remarks to her, to assist in the investigation. Ampang Jaya police chief Azam Ismail said the 90-second video, believed to have been initially uploaded on TikTok, began circulating on Instagram and other platforms yesterday afternoon. 'The police officer has been identified and removed from active duty. 'A disciplinary investigation is also under way,' Bernama quoted him as saying in a statement today. The case is being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code for insulting the modesty of a person, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities. In the video, the officer is heard inviting the woman to a hotel. Separately, the director of Bukit Aman's integrity and compliance department, Azri Ahmad, said they are conducting a disciplinary investigation against the officer and his supervisors. 'This department will not hesitate to take stern action against any police officer or supervising officer if the complaint is found to be valid,' he said in a statement.

Former French president Sarkozy stripped of Legion of Honour medal

PARIS: Former president Nicolas Sarkozy has been stripped of his Legion of Honour, France's highest distinction, after being convicted of corruption and influence peddling last year, according to a decree published in Sunday's Official Bulletin. The centre-right politician has been embroiled in legal battles since leaving office in 2012. Last year, France's highest court upheld his conviction for corruption and influence peddling, ordering him to wear an electronic tag for a year, a first for a former French head of state. Also last year, an appeals court confirmed a separate conviction for illegal campaign financing in his failed re-election bid in 2012. The rules of the Legion of Honour award meant that the revocation had been expected. — REUTERS
