Newcomers to star as Harry, Hermione and Ron in HBO's new decade-long ‘Harry Potter' series

Malay Mail5 days ago

LONDON, May 28 — HBO has announced the young actors who will play the lead trio in its upcoming TV series adaptation of Harry Potter.
Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry Potter, with Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley.
More than 30,000 children auditioned for the roles after an open casting call last year, according to the BBC.
Showrunner Francesca Gardiner and executive producer and director Mark Mylod said, 'The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen.'
The trio will join a cast that includes John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape.
Nick Frost will play Rubeus Hagrid, Luke Thallon will portray Quirinus Quirrell, and Paul Whitehouse has been cast as Argus Filch.
Further casting announcements are expected in the coming months.
McLaughlin is a Scottish actor who will appear in the upcoming Sky comedy Grow and BBC action-adventure series Gifted.
Stanton played the lead role in Matilda: The Musical in the West End.
The three actors are taking on roles made famous by Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint in the film series.
JK Rowling, author of the bestselling book series, will serve as an executive producer.
HBO said the series would be a 'faithful adaptation' of Rowling's books.
The new series is expected to span at least a decade, allowing more time to explore the books' storylines than the films did.
Filming is set to begin this summer at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the UK.
The first season could air as early as 2026 on HBO Max.

Cunha coup: Man United trigger £62.5m clause to land Wolves hitman

MANCHESTER, June 2 — Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers, the two Premier League clubs said yesterday, with the Brazil forward joining on a five-year contract. United triggered the 26-year-old's release clause, which was worth around £62.5 million (RM358.7 million), a team source said. The Old Trafford club also have the option of extending his contract by a year. Cunha has scored 33 times and provided 15 assists in 92 appearances for Wolves, with 15 of those goals coming in the Premier League this season. He becomes United's first summer signing. 'Manchester United has reached agreement with Wolverhampton Wanderers for the signing of Matheus Cunha. The Brazilian forward's signing is subject to visa and registration,' United said in a statement. The transfer is a record sale for Wolves, eclipsing the £53 million they received from Manchester City for midfielder Matheus Nunes in 2023. 'Everyone at Wolves would like to thank Matheus for his contributions in old gold and wish he and his family the best of luck for the future,' the West Midlands club said. Wolves had signed Cunha on an initial loan deal from Spanish side Atletico Madrid in December 2022 before signing him on a permanent four-year contract. In February, Cunha agreed a new deal to extend his stay at Molineux until 2029. He started his senior career at Swiss club Sion before joining Germany's RB Leipzig in 2018 and then moving to German second-tier side Hertha BSC in 2020. United finished 15th in the Premier League with 42 points. — Reuters

Mike White, the writer of the hit HBO series White Lotus , is returning to the island for Survivor Season 50. The 54-year-old Emmy winner placed second on the show's 37th season in 2018. He is one of 24 returning players who will compete in the milestone season, which will be filmed in Fiji. 'Mike, after he finished playing, said, 'I want to play again,'' host and executive producer Jeff Probst told CBS Mornings on Wednesday. 'Then White Lotus hit, and I thought, 'Well, he'll never play again.' But he kept texting and saying, 'Look, I'm serious. If you ever do anything where you have returning players, I want to play again.' So we're happy to have Mike. Other returning fan favourites include Cirie Fields, Ozzy Lusth, Colby Donaldson, Jenna Lewis-Dougherty, Aubry Bracco and Benjamin 'Coach' Wade. White, whose other credits include School Of Rock and Enlightened , told the New Yorker in a 2021 interview how the show has inspired him. 'I still feel like, even on the most contrived reality show, the people are human and they're more interesting than some of the most well-scripted drama,' he said. 'And for me, as a writer of drama, I aspire to do what reality television already does. To create characters that are surprising and dimensional and do weird s– and capture your attention.' White also competed with his father Mel on two seasons of The Amazing Race . The White Lotus has already been given a Season Four renewal. Survivor 50: In the Hands Of The Fans will head into production this summer and air in February 2026. – New York Daily News/Tribune News Service

Tate brothers will return to UK to face charges

Andrew Tate has gained millions of fans by promoting an ultra-masculine lifestyle. (EPA Images pic) LONDON : Internet personality Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan will return to Britain to face criminal charges once separate legal proceedings in Romania have been concluded, a lawyer for the siblings said. Britain's Crown Prosecution Service confirmed earlier this week that it had previously authorised charges against the brothers including rape, actual bodily harm and human trafficking. The Tates are facing a separate criminal investigation in Romania over trafficking allegations, and the courts there have already approved their extradition to the UK. The brothers have denied all the allegations. 'Once those proceedings are concluded in their entirety then the Tates will return to face UK allegations,' Holborn Adams, the law firm representing the brothers, said in a statement yesterday. Andrew Tate, a self-described misogynist who has gained millions of fans by promoting an ultra-masculine lifestyle, separately faces a civil lawsuit in Britain, which has been brought by four women and is due to go to trial in 2027.
