Garrett Nussmeier spotted with Kellen Moore at Saints minicamp
The New Orleans Saints opened up their mandatory minicamp practice to fans on Tuesday, but some of the most notable spectators were on the sidelines. Former Pro Bowl center LeCharles Bentley has found a tremendous second act in football as a personal trainer for offensive linemen, and he was back at the team practice facility in Metairie; NewOrleans.Football's Mike Triplett also saw former Atlanta Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff chopping it up with Mickey Loomis. And that's interesting. Loomis has added a lot of former GM's to his front office like Jeff Ireland and Dave Ziegler, with his old boss Randy Mueller also joining the crew. Maybe Dimitroff is next.
But a lot of fans were excited to see who Kellen Moore was talking to during practice -- LSU Tigers quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, son of Moore's offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier. It isn't often a top prospect is at a pro team's facility a year out from the next draft, but it's kind of a unique situation given the ties involved. Maybe Nussmeier builds on a strong 2024 season and the Saints end up in a position to draft him in 2025.
This all kind of goes to show the atmosphere at this stage of OTAs; minicamp is full of seven-on-seven drills, light work, and some celebrity cameos before players take off for the summer. With an intense training camp on the horizon at the end of July, they'll be grateful for easier days like this in mid-June.

The Green Bay Packers just cut cornerback Jaire Alexander, and the Philadelphia Eagles could take advantage of that.
The Green Bay Packers just cut cornerback Jaire Alexander, and the Philadelphia Eagles could take advantage of that. originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Per a report by Ian Rapoport on X, the Green Bay Packers are cutting franchise cornerback Jaire Alexander, but he is not likely to be a free agent for very long. Advertisement In a recent article by PFF's Trevor Sikkema, he lists six potential landing spots for the two-time Pro Bowl defensive back, and one of the teams he thinks could be a potential suitor are the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. "We have to throw this one in here because, well, it's the Eagles. Part of their run to the Super Bowl last year was capitalizing on players like this becoming available and forming the best team in the league," Sikkema wrote. "The Eagles have Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean in their secondary, two players who were excellent as rookie starters in 2024... Perhaps Alexander would take a big discount to be the veteran in the room for a team looking for another title." The Eagles cut veteran cornerback Darius Slay earlier this offseason, so the team could use someone to step in and fill his spot. Alexander has dealt with a number of injuries the past several seasons, so his last full season was in 2022. In 16 games that year, he was able to tally up a solid 56 total tackles, with 43 of them being solo. He was also able to show his incredibly ball-hawk skills with 14 passes defended and five interceptions. Advertisement There's a good chance this is the cheapest that Alexander is going to be after his short seasons in 2023 and 2024, so it could be an intriguing option for the Eagles to pounce and sign the veteran. Could Panthers Land Hometown Hero Jaire Alexander
Could Panthers Land Hometown Hero Jaire Alexander originally appeared on Athlon Sports. It's not every day that a Pro Bowl-caliber cornerback becomes available, but when the Green Bay Packers released Jaire Alexander, the NFL world took notice. And in Carolina, where offseason buzz has been limited, the idea of bringing Alexander home could ignite a fan base hungry for hope. Advertisement Alexander, a Charlotte-area native who starred at Rocky River High School in Mint Hill, has long expressed admiration for his roots. Back in his Louisville days, he made it clear that the Queen City held a special place in his heart. Even during a Packers visit to Bank of America Stadium, he named himself an 'honorary captain', a playful but telling nod to his hometown ties. Now, with his release official, the Carolina Panthers could present a compelling destination for the 28-year-old defensive back. It's a rare convergence of need, opportunity, and emotional appeal. On paper, Carolina has already invested heavily at corner with Jaycee Horn, a first-rounder with elite traits when healthy. But Horn has struggled with injuries, appearing in just 37 games over four seasons. Depth behind him, Mike Jackson, Chau Smith-Wade, and Shemar Bartholomew offers competence, not dominance. Add a healthy Alexander, and suddenly Carolina's secondary looks like one of the league's most fearsome. Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander gives the ball to a fan after his interception against the Bills.© JAMIE GERMANO/ROCHESTER DEMOCRAT AND CHRONICLE / USA TODAY NETWORK The fit isn't just strategic, it's personal. Advertisement Alexander has spoken fondly of his desire to return to Charlotte, and there's precedent for hometown talent taking initiative. Just this offseason, Hunter Renfrow, another Carolinas native reportedly reached out to the Panthers looking for a chance to wear the black and blue. Could Alexander do the same? It's a question Panthers GM Dan Morgan can't afford to ignore. With head coach Dave Canales trying to reshape a roster that finished 5-12 last season, injecting energy and identity into the locker room is a must. Signing a player with elite skills, locker room presence, and a deep emotional tie to the city would check every box. Alexander's recent injury history, he played just seven games in 2024 might even help Carolina negotiate a team-friendly deal, something the cap-conscious front office needs as it rebuilds around Bryce Young. Advertisement The Panthers shouldn't just explore this opportunity, they should pounce. In a landscape where wins are earned as much in free agency as they are on Sundays, bringing Jaire Alexander home could be the bold, culture-defining move Carolina desperately needs. Former Quarterback Continues To Disrespect Eagles Star
Former Quarterback Continues To Disrespect Eagles Star originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Jalen Hurts has been to the Pro Bowl twice, is an All-Pro player, has been to two Super Bowls, won one, and even earned the game MVP trophy. That kind of resume on the Philadelphia Eagles would usually have people arguing about his all-time greatness. Advertisement Not Hurts, though. And especially not in the national media. Hurts has continued to be disrespected as a starting quarterback this offseason despite winning Super Bowl LIX MVP. Former starting quarterback and NBC commentator Chris Simms spoke out about his latest quarterback rankings, which have Hurts just 10th in the league. 'The Super Bowl champ, the Super Bowl MVP. Really kind of an incredible year when you really think about it," Simms said. "The ultimate leader, that's the first thing I'll say. He's tough, he's the same guy all the time. He can handle the Philadelphia criticism good or bad and seems to take it all in stride." Advertisement It is incredible that a quarterback with six times the playoff wins as someone like Justin Herbert, three times as many wins as Dak Prescott, and a record of 4-1 against the top quarterbacks is ranked so far below. It shows that people no longer care about wins at the NFL level; they care only about the numbers. And Simms' comments show that people have lost the narrative regarding how we judge quarterbacks in the modern era. That is ok, though. So long as Hurts continues to win, comments like these from Simms will only be laughed at when his enshrinement in Canton happens.
