Anti-Naxal Force will remain active in state despite downsizing: Parameshwara

Mangaluru: Home minister G Parameshwara said the Anti-Naxal Force (ANF) will not be entirely disbanded, although its strength is being reduced. He told reporters here on Friday that the Naxal activities remain strong and prevalent in Odisha and Assam, increasing the possibility of Maoists infiltrating Karnataka . "The state should be ready to counter in case Naxals from other states infiltrate. Hence, we have continued to maintain a considerable size of ANF in the state," he said. On the murder of Abdul Rahiman from Kolthamajalu in Bantwal, the home minister said police were conducting investigations from various angles to find the motives. In response to a query as to whether Rahiman was murdered for personal rivalry, the minister said he was not aware of the actual motives behind the murder. "We cannot conclude whether he was murdered for personal rivalry or communal enmity until an investigation report is prepared," he said. Regarding the Union home ministry handing over the Suhas Shetty murder case to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Parameshwara said since the Centre has written to the state govt, the case has to be handed over. "Karnataka police are efficient in conducting investigations. I have no clue why the Centre has sought an NIA probe specifically into one particular case," he said. In response to a query on the demand for an Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the murder of Abdul Rahiman and the mob lynching of Ashraf, the home minister said, "The investigation is going on and if required, we will intensify it." Fresh caste survey On the fresh caste survey, Parameshwara said many communities have raised their voices against the previous census. "Many have complained that the census report showed less population than the actual size of their communities. The data in the caste survey report prepared by the commission led by Kantharaj and Jayaprakash Hegde is 10 years old. The population has increased in the past 10 years and the same should be included in the report. Based on the suggestions of many, including the party high command, govt has decided to conduct a fresh survey," he said. "Concerns of all communities regarding their population will be addressed through the fresh survey," he added. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here . Campaigns launched in Nov '22 inflict heavy damage on Maoists in Jharkhand

RANCHI: In a breakthrough for anti-Maoist operations in Jharkhand, a total of 19 Naxal operatives were gunned down in 2025 till June 10, compared to the 18 and 14 insurgents killed in 2024 and 2023, respectively. The year 2019 remains the most successful year against the 'red rebels' in Jharkhand forests, with 31 Maoists gunned down by the police force. According to police data, 155 police encounters took place in the past five years, during which as many as 114 Maoists were neutralised. According to officials, aggressive crackdown by state police, especially the elimination of most-wanted Maoist leaders in encounters, has led to an internal rift and sparked fear in the Maoist organisations.
