Singapore Open: Mixed doubles pair Tang Jie-Ee Wei crash out
NATIONAL mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei were unable to complete a perfect day for the Malaysian camp at the Singapore Open today, after falling to Taiwanese duo Ye Hong Wei-Nicole Gonzales Chan in the second round.
The world number four pair, who resumed their partnership following a brief separation after the All England 2025 in Birmingham last March, went down 18-21, 18-21 in a 39-minute battle against the world number 21 pair at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Visibly disappointed with the result, the Malaysian duo admitted they made numerous mistakes throughout the match.
'Today there were many errors in our game. Our opponents played better, but we made a lot of mistakes,' Tang Jie told Bernama while Ee Wei refused to blame their recent split for the loss and said their focus now shifts to the Indonesia Open next week.
Tang Jie-Ee Wei will begin their Indonesia Open campaign at the Istora Senayan against Indian pair Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto.
'We will try our best. Of course, like all players, we want to win,' Ee Wei added.
Earlier, five Malaysian pairs -- Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani, Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun (men's doubles), Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah (women's doubles), and Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie (mixed doubles) -- booked their places in the quarterfinals, alongside men's singles player Leong Jun Hao.

They lost to the 8th-ranked pair Sabar Karyaman Gutama-Reza Pahlevi Isfahani 18-21, 21-12, 18-21 in a 59-minute match that was marred by the crowd booing each time the Malaysians served. The defeat was their second in three encounters between the two pairs, and dashed Wei Chong-Kai Wun's hopes of winning another title in Jakarta this year after the Indonesia Master's victory in January. Despite the loss, Wei Chong-Kai Wun can hold their heads high as this is their fourth semi-final appearance while they have also won two titles this season, the Indonesia Masters and Malaysia Masters. They have so far won five career titles and were runners-up three times, including in the World Tour Super 1000 series Indonesia Open last year. As beaten semi-finalists in the Indonesia Open, the Malaysian duo take home US$20,300 (RM85,898). In tomorrow's final, the Indonesian pair will either face compatriots Fajar Alfian-Rian Ardianto or Kim Won Ho-Seo Seung Jae from South Korea.

No Senayan heroics for Wei Chong-Kai Wun this time
KUALA LUMPUR: Men's doubles Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun's heroics at the Istora Senayan were not enough this time. They fell 21-18, 12-21, 21-18 in the Indonesia Open semi-finals to homesters Sabar Karyaman-Moh Reza Isfahani, the world No. 8, on Saturday. The world No. 7 Malaysian pair lost narrowly in an hour. Wei Chong-Kai Wun had beaten Sabar-Reza at the same stage at the iconic venue last year. And in January, Wei Chong-Kai Wun hit a high to capture the Indonesia Masters at Istora Senayan. Despite the setback this time, Wei Chong-Kai Wun have really done well this season as they have also won the Malaysia Masters last month, upstaging their illustrious compatriots Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik. At the sidelines, Sabar-Reza's coach, Hendra Setiawan, got the better of his former mentor Herry IP, who is currently Malaysia's men's doubles chief. Under Herry, Hendra won the 2008 Olympic gold with Markis Kido and secured multiple world titles with Mohammad Ahsan. Wei Chong-Kai Wun had beaten world No. 8 Sabar-Moh in the last four last year but the latter avenged their defeat by coming out on top 18-21, 21-12, 21-18 at the Istora Senayan in Jakarta on Saturday (June 7). World No. 7 Wei Chong-Kai Wun did well to come back and win the second game after losing the first but could not maintain their form against the spirited duo in the decider and lost in the match lasting an hour. Sabar-Moh will take on either teammates Fajar Alfian-Rian Ardianto or South Korea's Kim Won-ho-Seo Seung-jae for the title on Sunday (June 8).
