Krept & Konan: Young Kingz II review – filthy and poignant in equal measure
Five years since their last album, the south London rap duo return on their own Play Dirty label after a decade in partnership with a major. This is a sort-of sequel to their legend-minting 2013 mixtape Young Kingz, although II's luxury beats and plutocrat obsessions are some distance from its gritty, grimy vibe. Still, Krept & Konan haven't sat on their fortunes as if they're dragon eggs. Their Crepes & Cones restaurant has closed but they've recently set up a foundation for at-risk kids, a mental health charity and Saveways, Britain's largest supermarket for black and Asian communities.
As always, their verses address family, cash and sex with a candour and filthy wit that few can match. Krept's Nala's Song (to his daughter) and Konan's Delroy's Son (for his late dad) are twin emotional peaks in the album's middle; elsewhere, their flair for memorable metaphors and parochial references remains undimmed. Freestyles and features abound, most notably Ghetts on Rage, or guest Oxlade's angelic tone blessing Kilimanjaro. There's nothing as brutally exciting as 2023 posse cut Dat Way (Remix), but it's pure pleasure to hear the pair wielding their axe-shaped pens in anger again.

Netflix's 'spectacular' period drama with perfect Rotten Tomatoes rating
The Netflix series is set in the 13th century and tells the story of the famous explorer Marco Polo, and the time he spent in the court of Kublai Khan Despite being axed, the second season of this Netflix series boasts a flawless 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, leaving fans furious and yearning for more. The 2014 show Marco Polo brings to life the adventures of the iconic Venetian explorer as he traversed Asia between 1271 and 1295. The series sheds light on an often-overlooked era in Asian history, focusing on Marco Polo's time in Kublai Khan's court and the birth of the Yuan dynasty in China. Viewers praised the show's captivating retelling of ancient tales, which also won over the president of Mongolia, who honoured the Marco Polo team with an award in 2015 for their authentic portrayal of Mongolian culture. Rotten Tomatoes reviewers rave about the show, with one stating: "What a plot. What amazing character developments, the colours, the costumes, the acting, the story plot in between each character - what a VILLAIN ARC! Oh my god, you've got to see it to believe this villain origin story, the cultural mix and religious fighting historical representation, the acting, the fighting scenes, and the plot twists!" Another fan gushes: "Don't know what to say; this show is great! Great cast, great story; it starts a bit slow, but that's just in the first few episodes. Great CGI, great fight scenes - love it. Still wish for a season 3 please! Season 2 is even better than season 1!" Italian actor Lorenzo Richelmy's portrayal of the famed merchant has garnered much acclaim from viewers. He stars alongside Benedict Wong, who plays Kublai Khan, the fifth Great Khan of the Mongol Empire; Joan Chen as Empress Chabi; and Rick Yune as Kaidu, reports the Express. However, some viewers have pointed out what they believe to be historical inaccuracies in the show. A review noted: "Shortcomings aside, the ingredients of this show combined to be very watchable." Another viewer commented: "I've just enjoyed a third viewing of the whole series and still appreciate the tangible world they created, the acting, the beauty and the terror, even if it is not entirely (or very) accurate to historical record." The lack of a third season could be attributed to the show's performance on Netflix at the time of its release, despite fan admiration and an Emmy nomination. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Marco Polo was a costly venture for Netflix, resulting in a $200 million loss, which ultimately led to its cancellation. The abrupt end of the series after a significant "cliffhanger" in season two has left many fans expressing their disappointment over the lack of closure. A fan shared their thoughts saying: "Well acted and visually stunning. The second season can be better than the first, just spectacular ... I just don't give 5 stars because of the ending that ends in an unexpected way; they cancelled too soon! ! ! One of the best series ever! ! ! Another upset fan wrote: ". One disgruntled fan expressed their confusion, commenting: "I don't know why they stopped this show. It's like Game of Thrones but in Asia. I guess less people are interested." Another viewer voiced their disbelief at the show's cessation, saying they "can't believe" it didn't continue as it appeared to "take off". For those curious to explore the Mongolian Empire saga and see what has sparked such debate, all episodes of Marco Polo can be streamed on Netflix at present.
