LONDON - Chris Eubank Jr dealt fellow-Briton Conor Benn a first career defeat after going the distance to win their middleweight grudge match on a unanimous points decision on Saturday.
All three judges scored the fight 116-112 after a pulsating 12-round slugfest, both fighters coming out hard from the start and going toe-to-toe in front of 65,000 spectators at London's Tottenham Hotspur stadium.
The fight, between the sons of former world champions and arch-rivals Chris Eubank Sr and Nigel Benn who met twice in the 1990s, was called off in 2022 when Benn tested positive for trace amounts of fertility drug clomifene.
Both fathers were present, 32 years on from their last clash, and embraced in the ring before the opening bell. REUTERS

"I spoke with Jenni (Hermoso) already in the beginning of the year, we had a conversation," Tome told reporters on Tuesday. "We've done with her what we've done with everyone else. We've valued her season in Tigres, we've spoken with the manager in different times, and we did what we had to do, to assess what we need from the players." Tome said Patri Guijarro, Maite Zubieta, Alexia Putellas, Aitana Bonmati, Vicky Lopez, Mariona Caldentey and Claudia Pina were all capable of playing in Hermoso's position. "It's difficult to make it to the final list of 23 players," she added. Spain are in Group B of the tournament in Germany, alongside Portugal, Belgium and Italy. PHOTO: AFP Son Heung-min to 'wait and see' on Tottenham future after Saudi links SEOUL – Son Heung-min has cast doubt on his Tottenham Hotspur future after saying he will 'wait and see' what happens amid speculation the skipper could move to Saudi Arabia. The South Korean forward has a year left on his contract and has been linked with an exit after helping Spurs end their 17-year trophy drought. 'Rather than saying anything at this moment, I think we should all wait and see what happens,' the 32-year-old told reporters after South Korea's 4-0 World Cup qualifying win over Kuwait on June 10. 'But no matter where I end up, I will always do the best I can. It will never change.' Son lifted the Europa League trophy in May to claim his first piece of silverware with Tottenham after helping his team beat Manchester United 1-0 in Bilbao. Despite the victory, Spurs have since fired coach Ange Postecoglou following a dismal Premier League campaign that saw them finish one place above the relegation zone. Son came under pressure after a series of underwhelming displays but he vowed to come back stronger next season, wherever he is playing. The two have now been 'formally charged and will stand trial while in custody', a spokesperson for the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office told AFP. According to the Yonhap news agency and other local media, Yang is Son's ex-girlfriend and allegedly extorted 300 million won from him by sending a foetal ultrasound image and threatening to go public with claims that she was pregnant with his child last year. It remains unclear whether Yang – who local media have speculated terminated the alleged pregnancy – was actually carrying the star footballer's child. Prosecutors believe Yang later attempted to extort an additional 70 million won from Son this year in collaboration with Yong, with whom she was in a romantic relationship, according to Yonhap. PHOTO: REUTERS OAKMONT – Former Oakmont caddie Matt Vogt, a 34-year-old Indianapolis dentist, was destined for an emotional Father's Day weekend after his father Jim died at 65 of colon cancer two months ago. But that was before he became an unlikely qualifier for this week's US Open at Oakmont, where he carried clubs for six years as a youth. 'Although I wish he was still here with us – and yes, I'm sure this weekend will be emotional – there's a sense of peace among our family, and I hope he's at peace as well because it was hard,' Vogt said. 'It's a unique time in my life where my father passed and I miss him dearly, but I have this beautiful 15-month-old daughter and a wife who supports me in doing these kinds of things. I think this weekend is going to be full of gratitude and hopefully some good golf too.' Vogt skipped nearby qualifiers filled with PGA Tour players last week and flew halfway across the United States to Walla Walla, Washington, to compete at Wine Valley Golf Club, where he fired two rounds of four-under 68 to earn medalist honors and his place as a player at Oakmont. 'Took a flier on it being a great course fit for my game. It paid off,' he said. 'It feels like it's been about three years in about six days, but it has been incredible.' Vogt, ranked 1,173 in world amateur rankings, is proud to represent Oakmont's 'caddie yard' this week. 'Oh my goodness. It has been crazy,' he added. 'I'm still trying to like soak it all in, but also not get too sentimental about it this place means so much to me.' Alas, his years helping golfers at formidable Oakmont have left few insights on how to solve its dense rough and lightning-fast greens. 'When you caddie here, you're not really viewing the golf course in the lens of like tour-level golf,' Vogt said. 'I know everything that's going on, but not to the level of detail that you need to play in the US Open. It has been a mentally exhausting few days just starting to get to learn the golf course a little bit.' Vogt signed his first autograph on June 9 but moments later his father was again in his thoughts. 'Walking up nine fairway after signing some autographs for some little kids, I looked up and thought about it. Anyone who has lost a parent, you feel these brief spurts of emotion,' he said.
