India-Pakistan ceasefire impact on air travel: The government has decided to lift the Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) for several airports across north and north-western India that had been temporarily closed for civilian flights till May 15.
The decision was taken following the India-Pakistan ceasefire that was announced over the weekend.
On Monday morning, the
Airports Authority of India
, which manages air navigation services, revoked the
NOTAM
(Notice to Airmen) that had mandated the temporary suspension of civilian flights to these facilities until May 15. An official declaration about the restart of services at these airports will be communicated shortly. At present, commercial airlines have not resumed operations to these airports.

The temporary suspension of operations, was earlier supposed to last until 05:29 hours of May 15, impacts several key airports across northern India, including Chandigarh, Srinagar, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Bhuntar, Kishengarh, Patiala, Shimla, Dharamsala, and Bathinda. The closure also extends to crucial facilities such as Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Leh, Bikaner, Pathankot, Jammu, Jamnagar, and Bhuj.
The closure of these airports to civilian aircraft was implemented on the morning of May 07, following heightened tensions between India and Pakistan.
Following the agreement between India and Pakistan on a ceasefire, the AAI has issued instructions to nullify the NOTAM and resume civilian flight operations at these airports. The closure resulted in the cancellation of more than 500 flights by airlines, with many carriers offering passengers the option of complete refunds or flight rescheduling.

Stringent Security checks
The BCAS has directed enhanced security protocols to be implemented at all airports and airlines throughout India.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation has issued a statement saying, "All passengers at all airports will undergo Secondary Ladder Point Check (SLPC). Visitor entry to terminal buildings has been banned. Air Marshal will be deployed accordingly."
BCAS implemented stricter security measures on Thursday, barring visitor entry to airport terminals whilst introducing compulsory secondary ladder point inspections for all aircraft.
Under the revised guidelines, access to terminal buildings is now restricted, with visitor entry ticket sales discontinued. The directives also specify that airport surveillance cameras must remain functional at all times, and security staff deployment aboard flights shall occur through priority-based and random selection processes.
The CISF has temporarily taken charge of additional security responsibilities at 69 civil airports across the country, including cargo operations and in-line hold baggage screening system supervision, as part of its counter-terrorism measures.
This extension of duties follows a BCAS directive issued on May 9, prompted by the Pahalgam terrorist incident and the nation's current security situation, according to a CISF spokesperson.
The temporary security arrangement will remain effective until May 18, as confirmed by the spokesperson to PTI.
Previously, the CISF's role was limited to passenger frisking and cabin baggage inspection, whilst private security personnel hired by airlines and airport operators managed cargo screening and In-line Hold Baggage Screening System (ILHBSS) operations.

Visa-free entry boosts travel to Philippines; online searches from India jump 28%; surge led by couples, first-time travelers
AI image NEW DELHI: Travel searches for the Philippines have surged among Indian tourists after the country announced visa-free entry for Indian passport holders, allowing stays of up to 14 days. According to visa processing platform Atlys, searches from India for travel to the Philippines jumped 28% after the update. Before the announcement, the country ranked eighth among the most searched Southeast Asian destinations by Indian travellers on Atlys. It has now jumped to third place, just behind Thailand and Indonesia. According to travel platform Atlys, searches for the Philippines jumped 28% soon after the announcement, and a sustained 20–30% increase in demand is expected over the coming months. "After the announcement, it swiftly climbed to third place, trailing only Thailand and Indonesia. The sudden repositioning underscores the significant impact visa accessibility can have on destination interest, particularly within India's fast-growing outbound travel market," Atlys said in a statement on Tuesday. Data from Atlys shows that the surge is mainly driven by couples and honeymooners, who account for 42% of all recent Philippines-related searches. Solo travellers make up 27%, primarily from metro cities like Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru. Families represent another 21%, with many planning multi-stop itineraries that combine beach destinations like Palawan and Cebu with the city attractions of Manila, reported PTI. The policy change has also opened doors for first-time international travellers, who are increasingly seeing the Philippines as a viable and attractive destination without the hassle of visa applications. The Philippines officially joined a growing list of countries offering visa-free or visa-on-arrival entry to Indian tourists on Sunday. Others in this group include Thailand, Malaysia, Sri Lanka (free e-visa), Seychelles, Indonesia (visa on arrival), Maldives, Nepal, and Hong Kong (with online pre-clearance), according to Anil Kalsi, Vice President of the Travel Agents Federation of India. "Indian nationals may enter the Philippines without a visa for a non-extendible and non-convertible period of 14 days for tourism purposes, upon presenting a passport valid for at least six months beyond the contemplated stay, confirmed hotel accommodation/ booking, proof of financial capacity, and return or onward ticket to the next country of destination," the website of the Philippines embassy in New Delhi said. "Indian nationals holding valid and current American, Japanese, Australian, Canadian, Schengen, Singapore or United Kingdom (AJACSSUK) visas or residence permits may enter the Philippines without a visa for a non-extendible period of 30 days for tourism, upon presenting a passport valid for at least six months beyond the contemplated stay, and return or onward ticket to the next country of destination," it added. Adding to the momentum, Air India will launch direct flights between Delhi and Manila starting October 1, 2025, improving travel access. Pilgrimage bookings from Gujarat decline by 20%
Ahmedabad: The summer sun usually signals a bustling season for pilgrimage tours in Ahmedabad, with tour operators and private bus companies gearing up for a surge in demand. Traditionally, the spiritual journey begins with the revered Char Dham Yatra, followed by expeditions to Kailash Mansarovar, and later to the holy cities of Ayodhya and Kashi. However, this year, an unexpected chill has settled over the pilgrimage circuit, as a confluence of unfavourable weather and escalating cross-border tensions has significantly dampened the spirits of potential travellers. Tour operators are reporting a notable 20% drop in pilgrimage tour bookings from Gujarat, a stark departure from the usual vibrant scene. Adding to the woes are logistical hurdles that have further complicated travel plans. The Uttarakhand govt's new mandate for compulsory Aadhaar-based authentication for the Char Dham Yatra has introduced a layer of complexity for pilgrims. Last year's experiences of heavy rainfall and disruptive landslides are also fresh in the minds of travellers, making them hesitant to embark on long journeys. "Rain and landslides, coupled with stringent traffic control measures, led to disruptions. Aadhaar card linkages sought for compliance issues take place in a big way, which resulted in hesitation among potential pilgrims. Due to this, inquiries are less. Scores of buses typically depart from Gujarat for the Char Dham pilgrimage during summer, but the scenario is different this year," explained Manish Sharma, a seasoned travel industry expert. Concerns about recent Indo-Pak border tensions, uncertainty regarding a new Covid variant, and significant travel expenditures on the Kumbh Mela earlier this year are all cited by operators in the city as causes for a reduced uptake. "The seasonal business is down by at least 20% this time around. We have some inquiries, but none are confirmed. Now the bookings for Kailash Mansarovar will begin and later around Oct, those for Kashi and Ayodhya. However, the scenario will be uncertain till inquiries get converted into final bookings," said Mahesh Dudakiya, owner of another travel firm. Sharma also said, "The response of tourists is largely driven by concerns after the Pahalgam episode. Even though interest in the Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage remains high, concrete bookings have yet to materialise in significant numbers." Travel industry sources also said that a sustained shortage of helicopter services, specifically for Kedar Nath — a shrine requiring a challenging 16-km trek, pony ride, or palanquin — further deterred senior citizens, who make up a large segment of pilgrimage participants. The industry now turns its hopes to travel demand bouncing back during the Diwali period.
