The post Son of Florida Gators legend transfers to Florida A&M appeared first on ClutchPoints.
After an underwhelming 7-5 season in 2024, Florida A&M has added another talented quarterback to an already competitive QB room. Lawrence Wright IV, the son of Florida Gators legend Lawrence Wright III, is joining the Rattlers after leaving the Gators in the transfer portal. He announced his commitment to FAMU on his social media account.
Wright IV played his junior year at South Broward High School in South Florida before moving to Gainesville. At P.K. Yonge High School in Gainesville, the 6-foot-1, 243-pound quarterback wrapped up his high school career by rushing for 470 yards and six touchdowns, while also passing for 468 yards and one touchdown during his senior season.

Wright III, a University of Florida Athletic Hall of Famer, was a key player in the Gators' 1996 National Championship win. In 1995, he was named an All-American and also earned the prestigious Jim Thorpe Award. He contributed to four consecutive SEC championships before moving on to the NFL. Wright III spent two seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, recording 25 tackles across 18 games.
Wright IV's commitment comes after former Fordham quarterback CJ Montes committed to the Rattlers and then departed to rejoin Kent State. The son of the Florida legend will be tasked with winning the QB1 job last held by Daniel Richardson last season. Richardson emerged as one of the best quarterbacks in HBCU football.
Heading into the MEAC-SWAC Challenge against Norfolk State, Richardson was named as Florida A&M's starting quarterback and immediately secured his spot for the defending Celebration Bowl champions. He led the Rattlers to comeback wins over both Norfolk State and South Carolina State, showcasing his throwing accuracy and ability to make plays.
Richardson's play helped Florida A&M become ranked in the AFCA Coaches Poll before their loss to Jackson State. But, he ultimately suffered an injury against Prairie View A&M University in November. He wasn't on the sidelines for long as he finished out the season strong to complete the season for the Rattlers. Now, the Rattlers look to figure out the next step in their quarterback journey.

Now, Lawrence Wright IV will have the opportunity to create his own legacy at an HBCU and possibly be the quarterback to get the Rattlers back to their contending ways.

Patriots' Christian Barmore Ready to Move on From Health Crisis in 2024

Patriots' Christian Barmore Ready to Move on From Health Crisis in 2024 originally appeared on Athlon Sports. New England Patriots' defensive end Christian Barmore was a second-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and had developed a strong, productive first three years in the league. Advertisement However, in 2024, his season was nearly cut short by injury. Barmore was diagnosed with blood clots during training camp last season and was unable to practice again until Nov. 14. Barmore returned to the field on Nov. 17 and played in four games in 2024 before the Patriots placed him on reserve/non-football injury because of recurring symptoms that required further evaluation due to his blood clots. "That stuff I went through, man, I would never ever want nobody to go through that," Barmore said during the Patriots' mandatory minicamp this year (h/t "You know, like I said earlier, like, that stuff, imagine somebody stopping you from breathing, and literally, like, stopping you, like, literally. Like, now I can breathe again. Now, you know, lungs opened up. So what's up?" Now, coming into 2025, Barmore has been given the "green light by the Patriots' medical staff to fully participate in all offseason programs. Advertisement Barmore's 2024 season was one with many challenges, but he's just thankful to have weathered the adversity and be in a position to get back on the football field. "It's a blessing of God, man," Barmore said. "He never gave up on me. Just kept working hard, you know, and I kept my faith in God." When Barmore is healthy, he's proven he can be a force. He displayed it at the college level with Alabama, and he demonstrated the ability to transfer it to the professional level with the Patriots. Barmore won the National Championship with the Crimson Tide in 2020 and collected 37 tackles, 10 TFLs, eight sacks, and three forced fumbles that season. Advertisement Once with the Patriots, Barmore improved each season. The Patriots' defensive tackle broke out in 2023 before injuries halted another year of development in 2024. Barmore set career highs with 64 tackles, 16 quarterback hits, 14 TFLs, and 8.5 sacks in 2023. He also defended six passes and forced a fumble. Now, Barmore is ready to go out there and prove that he still has the fire and production he demonstrated in 2023. New England Patriots defensive tackle Christian Barmore (90) reacts after a sack during the first half against the Buffalo Bills at Gillette DeChiara-Imagn Images New head coach Mike Vrabel is introducing a new defensive scheme to New England in 2025, one that emphasizes a three-man line, which should benefit Barmore. "I love it," Barmore said. "Really love it. And it just, you know, psychs me every time, man." Advertisement Beside Barmore on the defensive line will be the Patriots' significant offseason addition, Milton Williams. The two big boys in the middle have the potential to become one of the best interior defensive units in the league, and Barmore is not shying away from that confidence. "Milton's dominant, and you know, for me, it's just, like: How are we going to just come and roll and take over the game? That's our goal," Barmore said. "How the D-line going to take over? You know, the game won up front, so that's our goal every time we're on the field." The Patriots' defensive line could be a breakout special in 2025. But as training camp comes up around the corner, Barmore is just excited to be back on the field playing football again. Jac Caglianone goes deep, former Gators stay hot in weekly MLB update

With the MLB season nearing the halfway point, several former Florida Gators are making some noise. Whether it's power, pitching or plate presence, Florida's alumni are showing up and impacting the game in meaningful ways. Pete Alonso continues to anchor the Mets lineup with his signature power stroke, while Jac Caglianone is flashing the kind of raw talent that made him a high draft pick. Wyatt Langford is trending in the right direction after a rocky start to June, and Brady Singer has quietly become a workhorse in Cincinnati. Meanwhile, veterans Harrison Bader and Jonathan India are trying to shake off recent slumps and find their footing again. Here's how each of them performed over the past week. Pete Alonso: First Baseman, New York Mets Last 7 Games: .222 AVG | .276 OBP | .333 SLG | 1 HR | 2 RBI | 2 BB 2025 Season: .290 AVG | .385 OBP | .941 OPS | 18 HR | 64 RBI Alonso cooled off at the plate over the past week, hitting just .222 across 27 at-bats, but still managed to leave the yard once and drive in two runs. Despite the dip in average, the former Gator remains a dangerous threat in the heart of the Mets' lineup and continues to draw walks and hit the ball hard. The Polar Bear sits just under the .300 mark for the season and has already slugged 18 home runs. With All-Star voting heating up, Alonso remains one of the premier power bats in the National League and a steady presence as New York pushes to stay in playoff contention. Jac Caglianone: Outfielder, Kansas City Royals Last 7 Games: .167 AVG | .259 OBP | .458 SLG | 2 HR | 2 RBI | 2 BB 2025 Season: .203 AVG | .250 OBP | .594 OPS | 2 HR | 4 RBI Caglianone broke through in a big way last week with the first two home runs of his professional career. He didn't rack up a lot of hits, but when he did connect, he made them count. The power that made him a Florida baseball legend is now flashing on the big-league stage. The Royals are still managing expectations with their rookie slugger, but signs are pointing in the right direction. If Caglianone continues to adjust to MLB pitching and improves his approach, his natural pop could quickly make him a fixture in Kansas City's lineup. Wyatt Langford: Outfielder, Texas Rangers Last 7 Games: .286 AVG | .355 OBP | .357 SLG | 1 RBI | 1 BB 2025 Season: .237 AVG | .316 OBP | .750 OPS | 13 HR | 31 RBI | 11 SB Langford turned in a solid bounce-back week at the plate, collecting eight hits and raising his average back toward the .240 mark. The former Florida star continues to show improved plate discipline and manages to get on base consistently while limiting strikeouts. The Rangers are encouraged by his upward trend after a mid-June slump. Langford's blend of speed and power remains one of Texas' biggest weapons, and with the summer heat arriving, the sophomore outfielder could be poised for a strong second half as the ball starts flying across the league. Harrison Bader: Outfielder, Minnesota Twins Last 7 Games: .211 AVG | .286 OBP | .421 SLG | 1 HR | 3 RBI | 0 SB 2025 Season: .257 AVG | .344 OBP | .766 OPS | 7 HR | 27 RBI | 7 SB Bader added another home run this week and drove in three runs, but the rest of his offensive line remained modest. He's still struggling to string together hits consistently, though his plate appearances have shown improvement in terms of patience and contact. While the offensive production remains streaky, Bader's glove continues to be a major asset for Minnesota. His ability to track down fly balls in center field and make difficult plays look routine is keeping him in the lineup, even as the bat seeks more consistency. Jonathan India: Infielder, Kansas City Royals Last 7 Games: .143 AVG | .143 OBP | .286 SLG | 1 HR | 4 RBI | 1 BB 2025 Season: .238 AVG | .315 OBP | .646 OPS | 4 HR | 22 RBI It was a rough week for India, who posted just four hits in 28 at-bats while striking out five times. The lone bright spot was a home run, his fourth of the season, and a four-RBI stretch that kept him marginally productive in an otherwise cold spell. India remains a leader in the Royals' clubhouse, and Kansas City will need his experience as the young roster continues to develop. A more consistent approach at the plate could boost both his numbers and his value as a key piece in the lineup down the stretch. Brady Singer: Starting Pitcher, Cincinnati Reds Last 3 Starts: 3-0 | 3.23 ERA | 39.0 IP | 32 H | 14 BB | 28 SO 2025 Season: 7-5 | 4.13 ERA | 80.2 IP | 67 SO | 1.30 WHIP Singer continued his impressive June with another strong start, going six innings against the St. Louis Cardinals and allowing just one earned run with seven strikeouts. He's now won three straight outings and has become a stabilizing force in the Reds' rotation. The former Gator has quietly put together a solid season. With a 4.13 ERA and growing confidence on the mound, Singer is giving the Reds exactly what they need from a dependable starting pitcher in a tight NL Central race. Spartans star Jase Richardson slides in latest ESPN NBA Mock Draft

Could Michigan State basketball star Jase Richardson be in for a long night on Wednesday? The latest mock draft from ESPN suggests that could be the case. The latest NBA Mock Draft on has Richardson slipping nearly out of the first round. In this updated mock draft (which was released on Monday), Richardson goes No. 25 overall to the Orlando Magic. Per NBA Draft insider Jonathan Givony, Richardson being left off the green room invitations list suggests a fall on Wednesday night could occur. Here's the full write-up from Givony on Richardson: "Richardson is the highest-ranked player (No. 18) on the ESPN big board not to get invited to the NBA draft green room (24 players invited), leaving some uncertainty about where he might end up being selected. "His draft range starts around No. 16 with Memphis, which has drafted several players in the past few years with similar statistical profiles and might end up having a backcourt void to fill soon, all the way to the mid-20s portion of the first round. "The Magic are another team that could look to add shooting and backcourt depth and might be intrigued by Richardson's scoring efficiency, defensive intensity and ability to play without the ball." Richardson starred for the Spartans in his lone season in college, averaging 12.1 points per game and shooting above 40% from three-point range. This strong play had Richardson once projected as a lottery pick by many, but he has gradually dropped in the mocks during the draft process. He is still widely considered a lock to be selected in the first round, but that could potentially becoming less of a lock now. We will find out where Richardson lands in the next few days, with the NBA Draft scheduled to take place on Wednesday and Thursday. The first round will take place on Wednesday and the second round on Thursday.
