Man mums initially meant strong men who are muscular, but now women choose who to hug based on qualities like kindness, patience, looks and body shape.
In China, young women are paying about 50 yuan (approximately Rs 600) for a five-minute hug from men called 'man mums.' This unusual trend is growing on Chinese social media and it offers comfort during stressful times. At first, 'man mums' meant strong, muscular men, but now women choose who to hug based on qualities like kindness, patience, looks and body shape.
They arrange meetings through chat apps and hugs usually happen in public places like subway stations or malls. The price for a short hug usually costs between 20 to 50 yuan (approximately Rs 200 to Rs 600).
According to the South China Morning Post, Zhou, who has hugged 34 times, said he earned 1,758 yuan (approximately Rs 21,000) and hopes his hugs help women feel better when they struggle with worries about their body or work pressure. The man offering hugs says he has no plans to turn it into a full time job. For him, charging a small fee helps keep clear boundaries. It makes the experience feel more professional and less personal.
Another man who has given hugs a few times said that doing this makes him feel good about himself. He feels more confident and important because he can help others feel better through his hugs. A student feeling uneasy with her thesis shared that she was looking to pay for a hug from a caring and fit man to help relieve stress. She remembered being hugged once back in school and said it made her feel safe. She suggested meeting at an underground station and keeping the hug short.
Some women also feel that paying for the hug makes the situation safer and more respectful. It helps avoid misunderstandings or unwanted behaviour, as both sides know the rules and limits from the start.

Ayodhya: A total of 45 kilograms of pure gold has been used in the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, according to Nripendra Mishra, the chairman of the Ram Temple Construction Committee. He said the estimated value of the gold, excluding taxes, is around Rs 50 crore. Gold has been used extensively in the doors on the ground floor of the temple and the throne of Lord Ram. He added that gold work is still ongoing in the Sheshavatar Temple. While the main structure of the Ram Temple has been completed, other parts of the temple complex, including the museum, auditorium, and guest house, are still under construction. These are expected to be completed by December 2025. Following the consecration of Ram Darbar, Mishra said arrangements are being made for controlled public access to the sacred space. For now, only a limited number of devotees will be allowed to visit the Ram Darbar, and entry will be regulated through passes, which will be issued free of cost. The consecration ceremony has drawn large crowds to the sanctum sanctorum of the temple. In a statement, temple trust general secretary Champat Rai, on Friday advised the temple visitors to exercise patience for visits to the Ram Darbar. A Ram Temple Trust official clarified that the newly consecrated Ram Darbar is not yet open to the general public. Tuljapur temple to resume distribution of prasad with Chitale Bandhu laddoos

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: After a temporary halt, devotees visiting the revered Tulja Bhavani temple in Dharashiv district will soon receive laddoos as prasad, with Pune-based Chitale Bandhu Mithaiwale roped in for preparation and supply. The decision comes as part of a renewed focus on ensuring purity and quality in religious offerings. Confirming the development, Dharashiv collector Keerthi Kiran Pujar told TOI, "The prasad in the form of laddoos will be prepared by Pune's famous Chitale Bandhu." He clarified that the sweet-maker is charging close to Rs 29 for 50g of laddoos, while the temple trust will be charging devotees Rs 30 only. The Tulja Bhavani temple trust stopped distributing prasad some time ago after receiving several complaints regarding its quality. In a significant policy shift, the trust floated tenders in Sept 2024, inviting reputed firms to take over prasad preparation. This move was prompted by heightened concerns nationwide, particularly after allegations of the use of animal fat and fish oil in the prasad served at the Tirupati Balaji temple created a stir among devotees. Chitale Bandhu, known for its high standards in sweet preparation, was selected through a transparent bidding process. The Tulja Bhavani temple is one of Maharashtra's most important religious destinations. It is counted among the 51 Shakti Peethas in India and draws lakhs of pilgrims every year. The temple also holds a special place in Maratha history, with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj known to be a devout follower of the goddess. Officials said prasad distribution is likely to resume once the necessary logistics and packaging arrangements are finalised. The prasad will be made using pure ghee and traditional ingredients, aligning with the temple's cultural and spiritual heritage.
