KL Wellness City launches free 12-month health programme for Malaysians
KUALA LUMPUR, May 23 — KL Wellness City unveiled its Wellness 360: Integrative Yoga & Specialist Doctor Talk Series, a free 12-month public health programme combining medical expertise with wellness practices.
The monthly series, running from June to December 2025 at the KL Wellness City Gallery, targets the general public, tourists, and expatriates with expert-led wellness education.
Each session pairs specialist doctors with corresponding yoga practices, such as cardiologists discussing heart health alongside heart-opening flow yoga to enhance circulation and vitality.
The programme includes diverse medical disciplines, with gynaecologists covering women's hormonal balance paired with Moon Flow sessions, and neurologists addressing nervous system health with restorative Yoga Nidra.
Mental health receives special attention through psychiatrist-led sessions on mental resilience and focus, complemented by meditation practices for inner peace and stress management.
Kinohimitsu, the established Asian health and beauty brand, serves as strategic partner through general manager Liew Pei Yee, sponsoring products and delivering wellness talks at each session.
The series reflects KLWC's mission to build a healthier society by making expert wellness education accessible to all community members regardless of background.
Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa endorsed the initiative as empowering communities to take charge of their health while supporting local economic development.
Interactive booths and on-site health advice will be available at each session, creating direct engagement opportunities between wellness experts and participants.
KLWC executive director Datuk Seri Dr Vincent Tiew said that Wellness 360 represents how the development creates 'an ecosystem where health is a way of life, not an afterthought.'

‘United Against Dengue' alliance launched to combat surge in cases

(Rawpixel pic) PETALING JAYA : A new regional collaboration aimed at strengthening dengue prevention and control across Southeast Asia was launched today. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and Takeda Pharmaceuticals have officially launched 'United Against Dengue' (UAD) amid a surge in dengue cases worldwide, with Malaysia alone recording 14,310 cases and 16 deaths this year. UAD, which also involves independent advocacy group Dengue Prevention Advocacy Malaysia, is built on three strategic pillars – educate, advocate, and support. The 'educate' pillar focuses on strengthening community resilience through awareness and preparedness. This includes disease education campaigns, volunteer training via the Epidemic Control for Volunteers toolkit, and hygiene promotion. Enhanced surveillance and early response protocols will also be implemented to guide communities in effectively managing dengue risks. The 'advocate' pillar aims to ensure long-term sustainability of dengue prevention by engaging policymakers, medical societies, and community organisations. Efforts focus on integrating dengue control measures into national health strategies and promoting regional alignment among public health stakeholders. This approach strengthens health systems and supports coordinated action for lasting impact. The 'support' pillar provides direct care and assistance to individuals and communities affected by dengue. This includes mobilising resources and community-based responses to offer timely aid, helping to reduce the disease's impact and support recovery efforts in vulnerable areas. 'UAD exemplifies the power of collaboration and community engagement in tackling this significant public health challenge,' said Dr Deepa Gamage, public health specialist (disease control) at the WHO representative office for Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam and Singapore. 'The WHO commends this creative approach to reaching and educating communities across the region. Together, we believe we can make zero preventable deaths by 2030 in Southeast Asia and beyond possible.' Dengue Prevention Advocacy Malaysia chairman Dr Zulkifli Ismail noted that dengue continues to pose a significant public health threat across Asia and beyond, requiring coordinated, multi-sectoral action at both regional and national levels. 'Cross-sector collaboration will continue to be crucial for driving progress and protecting vulnerable populations from dengue, and UAD reflects a clear intent to catalyse collaborative efforts to drive progress in dengue prevention and management,' he said.

N. Sembilan logs 13pc uptick in Covid-19 cases in early June
SEREMBAN, June 11 — Negeri Sembilan reported 110 new Covid-19 cases during Epidemiological Week 23 (June 1–7), marking a 13 per cent increase from the 97 cases recorded the previous week. State Health director Dr Zuraida Mohamed said most cases were detected at private clinics across the state and involved outpatients. 'No Covid-19 clusters have been reported so far, and the situation remains under control. The Health Department (JKNNS) will continue to monitor the Covid-19 situation closely,' she told Bernama today. She also advised the public to practise self-preventive measures at all times, especially high-risk groups who are encouraged to get vaccinated to reduce the risk of infection, serious complications, and death. — Bernama

Private hospitals call for delay to 6% SST for non-Malaysians

(Gambar Envato Elements) PETALING JAYA : Private hospitals are urging the finance ministry to postpone the implementation of the 6% sales and service tax (SST) on private healthcare services for non-Malaysians, set to take effect on July 1. In a statement, the Association of Private Hospitals Malaysia (APHM) raised concerns over the implementation time frame, saying 'private hospitals will need sufficient lead time to adjust administrative systems, billing processes, and compliance procedures'. APHM also said it had sent a written request to the finance ministry today for a 'more practical timeline'. 'This is to allow for a smoother transition, minimise disruption to patient services, and help ensure full compliance with the new requirements.' APHM also said it had sought further clarification on the policy's application, including its impact on professional fees, its treatment of foreigners residing in Malaysia, and other related implementation matters. The finance ministry announced two days ago that the service tax would be expanded to include rent, lease, construction, financial services, private healthcare, and education, with hopes that it would help generate RM51.7 billion in SST revenue next year. Under this policy, private hospitals will charge a 6% SST on healthcare services provided to foreign nationals. Since the announcement, several associations have raised concerns about the potential impact on service accessibility, pricing transparency, and operational preparedness, especially for sectors like healthcare and education which serve many non-Malaysians including foreign workers, expatriates, and international students.
