The golf world witnessed a ratings revolution once again, and this time, Justin Thomas was at the forefront. After donning the prestigious checkered jacket at RBC Heritage, the PGA Tour shattered viewership records, passing the numbers set by Scottie Scheffler last year and Rory McIlroy during his Players Championship victory.
As a result, the professional's victory, which ended his winless streak, proved to be a massive draw for the PGA Tour.
Sunday's final round of the RBC Heritage drew an average of 4.362 million viewers with a peak over six million. It was the most watched final round of the event in 23 years.
Additionally, Paramount+ continues to see record numbers for its PGA Tour coverage in 2025, according to CBS Sports.

This was an increase from Sottie Scheffler's win last year that drew 2.5 million viewers. While Matt Fitzpatrick's playoff victory over Jordan Spieth in 2023 saw 4.15 million viewers.
Josh Carpenter of the Sports Business Journal noted that CBS drew in 3.3 million viewers during the third and fourth rounds, a remarkable 62% increase from last year.
Even the early round coverage on the Golf Channel set a record for RBC Heritage, attracting nearly 536,000 viewers.
The PGA Tour's health and negotiation leverage with LIV Golf continues to strengthen.
The 2025 Masters also saw a significant boost in TV ratings, with 12.71 million viewers tuning in to witness Rory McIlroy's highly anticipated victory.
McIlroy's win turned out to be the most-watched Augusta event in six years, with the final round witnessing a 33% increase in viewership compared to the 2024 edition.
There's no doubt now that when history is being made on the course, golf fans take notice and tune in, making these events must-watch television.

No, Viktor Hovland Does Not Have a Wife at US Open- Here's What We Know
No, Viktor Hovland Does Not Have a Wife at US Open- Here's What We Know originally appeared on Athlon Sports. If Viktor Hovland has a girlfriend, the PGA Tour golfer has gone to great lengths to keep his relationship a mystery ahead of the U.S. Open. There has been plenty of speculation about Hovland's dating life. Advertisement Some outlets have linked Hovland to Norwegian influencer Kristin Sorsdal, but this does not appear to be anything more than an unfounded internet rumor. Hovland's Instagram page is absent of posts about a significant other. Instead, the athlete's social feed is all about golf with a few posts about his sponsors as well. Fans have not witnessed Hovland celebrate any of his seven PGA Tour wins with a wife or girlfriend, a popular tradition for many golfers. Likewise, Hovland has also not been spotted with a love interest during previous Ryder Cups, a popular event for golfers to bring their families along for the festivities. Viktor Hovland looks on during the second round of the U.S. Open golf LeClaire-Imagn Images Back in 2024, Hovland admitted that he is challenging to date. Advertisement 'I'm probably a tough person to truly get to know," Hovland said at the time, per Essentially Sports. 'It takes time to spend with me, and I haven't given enough to do that.' As a public figure, dating may pose its challenges for Hovland but on the course the golfer appears to have regained his form. Hovland is among the top contenders heading into the final rounds of the U.S. Open. Going into the third round, Hovland sounded surprised that he is near the top of the U.S. Open leaderboard. Hovland is one of just three golfers who is under par after the first two rounds at Oakmont. "I mean, (expectations) weren't overly high, to be honest with you, but I know that I can do something like this if I find a feel and make a few putts and stuff," Hovland told reporters on Friday. "I can go around here and play some good golf. Advertisement "But it wasn't like I was feeling overly confident. But that's kind of how this year has been." Related: J.J. Rory McIlroy squeaks into PGA weekend after driver reportedly ruled non-conforming
CHARLOTTE – Rory McIlroy's driver was reportedly ruled non-conforming on Tuesday at the PGA Championship, and he was forced to play a backup, which could explain his struggles off the tee at Quail Hollow Club. The U.S. Golf Association administers the driver testing for this championship, and the results are confidential, but SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio reported McIlroy's TaylorMade Qi10 driver exceeded the limits for spring-like effect. Advertisement In a statement Saturday from PGA of America chief championships officer Kerry Haigh, the association confirmed that the USGA was 'invited' to test drivers this week and that it's consistent with similar programs on the PGA Tour and at other majors. 'The standard process is for about a third of the field to be randomly tested under the program. That was the case at Quail Hollow this week,' Haigh said. 'Finding driver heads that have crept over the line of conformance is not an unusual occurrence, especially for clubs that are hit thousands of times over a long period of time. The results are kept confidential to protect players, who are unaware the club has fallen out of conformance and not responsible for it falling out of conformance other than hitting the club thousands of times. 'Players are simply asked to change heads if necessary, and all do without issue. To publicly identify players whose club did not conform can lead to that player being questioned unnecessarily. Neither the USGA nor the PGA of America have any concerns about player intent.' The PGA Tour began testing drivers in 2019 to combat normal wear and tear, which pushes drivers passed the limit for spring-like effect. A player who uses a non-conforming driver in tournament play would be disqualified. Advertisement McIlroy has struggled off the tee this week, hitting just 10 of 28 fairways and ranking 35th in strokes gained off the tee. He made the cut on the number at 1 over following a second-round 69. It's unclear if the driver that was deemed non-conforming was the same McIlroy used to win last month's Masters. He declined to speak with the media following his round. Article updated with PGA of America statement May 17 at 2:39 p.m. EDT.

What is PGA Championship 2025 playoff format? How it works, playoff holes and history
The 2025 PGA Championship is the 107th edition of this major event, the second of four for PGA Tour golfers. If the event needs a playoff to determine the winner at Quail Hollow in Charlotte, North Carolina, it wouldn't exactly be the first time. Advertisement Here's a look at what will happen if there's a tie at the end of Sunday's fourth round: HOW MUCH? PGA Championship 2025 purse, payout: See prize money for Wanamaker Trophy winner PGA Championship 2025 playoff format If two or more players are tied after 72 holes, the PGA Championship will be decided with a three-hole playoff using aggregate scoring. If there remains a tie after the three holes, the playoff moves to one-hole sudden death. The three holes for the playoff will be the par-4 16th, the par-3 17th and the par-4 18th, which so happen to be three of the toughest holes this week. The Masters, won in 2025 by Rory McIlroy in a playoff over Justin Rose, uses sudden death. The U.S. Open follows a two-hole playoff system while the British Open goes with a four-hole aggregate for a playoff. PGA Championship playoff history The first two playoffs necessary to determine the Wanamaker Trophy winner were 18-hole playoffs on the following day. The next six playoff situations were sudden death. In 2000, the PGA Championship began using a three-hole aggregate, which it has used ever since.
