Liverpool coach John Heitinga in talks over Ajax managerial vacancy
The Amsterdam club's collapse in the final month of the Eredivisie title race saw Francesco Farioli resign after just one season in charge.
Heitinga, who moved to Anfield with Arne Slot last summer, is a former Ajax player and youth team manager who spent five months in interim charge of the team from January 2023 before moving to West Ham to become his ex-Everton manager David Moyes' assistant.

It is understood the club have agreed to let the 41-year-old former Everton and Fulham defender speak to Ajax.
Slot, when asked about the rumours of Ajax's interest last week, said: 'If Ajax would be smart, they would consider him.
'He is ready to take on a job like that. If John is smart, he would stay one more season.'

After reportedly spending over €10 million on renovations to the Surrey home, the McIlroys are now expected to move in next month. In doing so, they will join a long list of famous names who have chosen to live in an area known for its exclusivity. In the elite circles of golf, Rory McIlroy's new neighbours will include the likes of South African golfing hero Ernie Els and former Ryder Cup skipper Thomas Bjorn. Fellow Irishman Paul McGinley is just around the corner in Sunningdale, with ex-Ryder Cup leader Sam Torrance also in the vicinity. Golf rivalry and camaraderie are ripe in the area with Justin Rose, whom McIlroy triumphed over in a thrilling Masters playoff, also calling this prestigious neighbourhood home. LUKE CHADWICK has revealed he was left battling depression and anxiety after being mocked for his appearance. The former Manchester United midfielder was on the books at Old Trafford between 1997 and 2004. 3 3 3 Chadwick came through the United youth system, winning the Premier League in 2001. He would go to play for West Ham, Stoke and MK Dons in a near two-decade career. Ahead of releasing his autobiography Not Just a Pretty Face, the 44-year-old has opened up about abuse he suffered as a young pro. Chadwick admits cruel comments about his appearance made him want to hide away in his house in the early stages of his career. He told BBC Sport: "As a 19, 20-year-old it should have been the best time of my life but for a period of time. "I didn't want to go to the shops, I didn't want to go out with my friends. "I would just want to stay at home because I was so scared that people would talk about the way that I looked. "I wasn't able to speak about it to anyone – not even my family, my friends – it was something that I kept so deep inside. "I probably felt helpless, in a way, because I just didn't know how to deal with it. And I just wanted it to stop, really." Chadwick's anxiety improved after moving away from Old Trafford to join the Hammers in 2004. Raheem Sterling may be tied to Arsenal for the long-term despite loan disaster
It's fair to say Raheem Sterling's loan spell at Arsenal didn't go how he planned. Nor boss Mikel Arteta. When it became apparent that the England international wasn't wanted at Chelsea last summer, despite his massive contract that had been signed at Stamford Bridge only 12 months previous, the Gunners boss took a punt on the 30-year-old. They'd worked together at Manchester City during the best period of Sterling's career, knew one another well and Arteta knew he could get the best out of the ex-Liverpool man. But Sterling's time in the north London was little short of a disaster. He struggled to find anything like his best form, scored just one goal in 28 games and by the end of the season, was way down the pecking order. However, those on-field difficulties haven't soured relations between player and club - even though he's unlikely to be returning himself, be it on a permanent or temporary deal. And now Sterling has established a family connection with the Gunners. His son, Thiago, is joining the Arsenal academy and will play for the U9 team - the youngest age group - as he sets about hoping to emulate his father in years to come and becoming a Premier League player. The news was announced by partner Paige Milian on social media, as she also shared family pictures with her 100,000 Instagram followers. Showing Thiago holding up an Arsenal shirt alongside younger brother Thai, 6, she said: 'Beyond proud of my first born son Thiago for signing with Arsenal Academy's U9s. 'The growth, dedication and hard work you've shown over the past year has been incredible to watch, you've earned this. This is just the beginning so keep your feet on the ground, stay humble and keep grinding. 'The journey doesn't stop here, let's go.' As for his father's future, well that's far less certain. Given how Chelsea have pivoted to youth this season - successfully it must be added - it's presumed Enzo Maresca will have no place in his squad for Sterling next season.
