Timberwolves vs Thunder Game 4: TV, time, how to watch, odds
Anthony Edwards and the Timberwolves will have to find a way to slow Thunder superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who was named the 2025 NBA MVP. Through the first three games of the Western Conference finals, Gilgeous-Alexander is averaging 27.7 points, 7.7 assists and 3.3 rebounds vs. the Timberwolves.
Minnesota is not only vying for its first NBA championship, the Timberwolves are also looking for their first NBA Finals appearance. The Thunder last appeared in the NBA Finals in 2012, but the franchise has not won an NBA championship in Oklahoma City. (The Seattle SuperSonics won a title in 1979 before the franchise was renamed and relocated in 2008.)
The Thunder have one of the deepest teams in the league, but in the playoffs, rotations tighten and some reserves might not get as much playing time. Thunder coach Mark Daigneault preaches readiness regardless.
"We try to create an environment and a culture of readiness, and part of the way that you do that, it's by throwing guys in the game," Daigneault said. "It's one thing to say, 'Hey, you got to stay ready.' It's quite another to put your money where your mouth is and throw guys out there and give guys opportunities. Especially like I said, if the game's not going the way that we want it to, we try to shake things up and try to see if we can ignite something.
"Obviously we weren't able to do that the other night, but I think that sets a healthy tone for the team and the more you do that and the more the players see that, even if it's not their number getting called, I think it gets their attention and it reminds them that at any moment you could be called upon and they've done a great job of that. Usually when we do that, we get a pretty good lift from it."
In Game 1 of the Western Conference finals, the Timberwolves committed 19 turnovers leading to 34 Thunder points. In Game 2, Minnesota had 14 turnovers leading to 22 Oklahoma City points. The Timberwolves lost both games. In Game 3 at home, the Timberwolves turned the basketball over just 10 times for 15 Thunder points and won.
"Hopefully we've learned enough lessons, but they're really good," Minnesota coach Chris Finch said of the Thunder and their top-ranked defense. "They really force you into tight spots and they swarm you when they get there, so everything's got to be a little bit earlier than you're used to. ...
"The faster we play, the quicker our decision-making is. The quicker our decision-making is, the better we are. When we get caught holding or surveying too long or probing or exploring things for ourselves too much, that's when we invite trouble. And this is what this team really thrives on. This OKC defense just feasts on that."

LOS ANGELES, June 4 (Reuters) - The NBA Finals matchup between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Indiana Pacers may be an intriguing one for basketball junkies but could struggle to capture the imagination of a wider audience due to a lack of marquee names. Anyone who believes the NBA is fixed in favor of LeBron James, Steph Curry and Luka Doncic will struggle to explain how Commissioner Adam Silver failed to engineer any of their teams making it even as far as the conference finals this post-season. In reality, Silver has pushed for a more level playing field and as a result we get a championship tilt between two small market teams featuring ascending stars Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Thunder and Pacers' guard Tyrese Haliburton. Incredible players, no doubt, but not exactly household names - at least not yet. Potentially making matters worse from a rating standpoint is that the Thunder are heavily favored to win their first title since relocating to Oklahoma City in 2008. The franchise's lone title came in 1979 when they were the Seattle SuperSonics. The Thunder won both regular season meetings with the Pacers en route to a sparkling 68-14 record, good for the fifth-most wins in NBA history. In the playoffs, they swept their first-round series against the Memphis Grizzlies, beat the Denver Nuggets in seven games and brushed aside the Minnesota Timberwolves in five contests to reach their first Finals since 2012. The Thunder have been the best team all season long and there is no reason to believe that has changed. The Pacers meanwhile were a surprising Eastern Conference champions. Seeded fourth, they eased past the Milwaukee Bucks and the Cleveland Cavaliers before dispatching a gritty New York Knicks squad in six games to reach their first Finals in a quarter century in their quest for a maiden NBA title. Both teams like to do their damage in transition and the Pacers will need to limit their turnovers against the opportunistic Thunder defense to have any chance in the series. Working in their favor is Haliburton, who has been playing with a chip on his shoulder since an anonymous player poll conducted by The Athletic in April named him the most overrated player in the league. The 25-year-old has been a key part of the team's success in the playoffs while getting key support from one-on-one specialist Pascal Siakam and sharpshooter Aaron Nesmith. The Thunder meanwhile are a juggernaut with the potential to be a dynasty thanks to league MVP Gilgeous-Alexander - also known as "SGA" - versatile big man Chet Holmgren, explosive guard Jalen Williams, and crafty defender Alex Caruso. Even if the Finals fail to deliver a compelling series, the NBA can rely on the coming off-season drama to keep fans engaged. Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kevin Durant are among the superstars that could be wearing new jerseys come next season so the action will continue even after one of the teams walks away with the Larry O'Brien trophy. The best-of-seven Finals tip-off on Thursday in Oklahoma City.

Report: Suns hiring Cavaliers assistant Jordan Ott as coach
June 4 - The Phoenix Suns are hiring Cleveland Cavaliers assistant coach Jordan Ott as their next head coach, ESPN reported Wednesday. Ott will be hired for the position over his former Cavaliers colleague, associate head coach Johnnie Bryant. Ott and Bryant met with Suns owner Mat Ishbia, CEO Josh Bartelstein and new general manager Brian Gregory in Michigan on Tuesday. Per ESPN, Suns star Devin Booker was involved in the latter stages of the search process and tabbed Ott as his choice as head coach. Phoenix is looking for a replacement for Mike Budenholzer, who was fired April 14 after his first season and a 36-46 record. Ott will be the fourth coach in four seasons for the Suns. Ott began his career as a video coordinator at Michigan State in 2008 before filling that same role under Budenholzer with the Atlanta Hawks. He joined the Brooklyn Nets as an assistant coach in 2016 and moved on to the Los Angeles Lakers in 2022 before Kenny Atkinson hired him in Cleveland. NBA Coach of the Year Atkinson and his staff led the Cavaliers to 64 wins and the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs, where they lost to the Indiana Pacers in the second round. --Field Level Media

Knicks eye shock candidate for coaching job... two years after he was fired by Celtics over affair scandal
Several coaching candidates have emerged in New York as the Knicks look to replace fired Tom Thibodeau after the franchise's most successful season in a quarter century. As reported by former ESPN NBA Insider Marc Stein, that list includes retired Villanova coach Jay Wright, Cleveland Cavaliers assistant Johnnie Bryant, Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd and Ime Udoka, the Houston Rockets head coach who was previously suspended and fired by the Boston Celtics over allegations of an improper affair with a team staffer. The Celtics initially believed the relationship was consensual, but the woman later claimed Udoka made unwanted comments towards her, leading to his 2022 suspension and 2023 dismissal. Udoka, 47, has since apologized to the team, its fans, and his family for 'letting them down.' Udoka had been engaged to actress Nia Long before the scandal broke in the summer of 2022, resulting in their split and a custody battle over their son. She later told rapper Jeezy on a podcast that her relationship with Udoka 'was rocky for a very long time.' The Celtics replaced Udoka with interim coach Joe Mazzulla, who won a title in Boston last season before being upset by the Knicks in the second round of the 2025 NBA Playoffs. But the former journeyman NBA forward got another chance to coach with Houston in 2023 and has since returned the Rockets to prominence. Houston finished second in the West this season before a first-round upset to the Golden State Warriors. Another intriguing candidate is Kidd, who, like Udoka, briefly played for New York before embarking on a coaching career. Like Udoka, Kidd is still under contract, and the Knicks might need to offer the Rockets or Mavericks compensation if they do end up hiring either candidate. Interestingly, this would be the second time Kidd was traded as a coach after the Brookly Nets allowed him to sign with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2014 in exchange for two second-round draft picks. One of the greatest point guards in NBA history, Kidd has been up and down as a coach. He did guide the Mavs to the 2024 Finals before the team missed the playoffs this season following a major injury to Kyrie Irving and the trade that sent Luka Doncic to the Lakers. Wright has been mentioned by a number of basketball insiders, due to his connections with Knicks stars Jalen Brunson, Mikal Bridges and Josh Hart, all of whom played for Wright at Villanova. These days Wright works as a college basketball analyst at CBS alongside Seth Davis, who appeared to shoot down Wright's candidacy on Tuesday. 'I have been working with Jay Wright on TV for three years,' Davis wrote on X. 'Based on every conversation we have had I would say there is a greater chance that I will be the next Knicks coach than him. The difference is if they call me I will say yes.' Although many expect the Knicks to inquire about Connecticut head coach and two-time national champion Dan Hurley, a more realistic option may be Bryant, who worked under NBA Coach of the Year Kenny Atkinson in Cleveland this season. This season the Knicks reached the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2000, but were ultimately upset by the Pacers in six games. In fact, the Knicks reached the playoffs in four of five seasons under Thibodeau, who led the team to its first back-to-back 50-win seasons for the first time since the 1990s. This came after the Knicks failed to reach the playoffs in seven seasons prior to Thibodeau's arrival. Thibodeau finishes his career in New York with a .511 winning percentage, which ranks fourth in team history behind Red Holzman, Pat Riley and his former boss, Van Gundy. Remarkably, Thibodeau has the highest career winning percentage (.579) of any coach who hasn't reached an NBA Finals, according to ESPN. Thibodeau was an assistant under Riley and Van Gundy in the late 1990s and early 2000s before joining Van Gundy with Houston and working with Doc Rivers in Boston. Ultimately Thibodeau was given the Chicago Bulls head-coaching job in 2010, and has since coached the Minnesota Timberwolves as well. One surprising candidate did toss his hat into the ring on Tuesday: Metta World Peace. The mercurial former NBA forward born Ron Artest played briefly for the Knicks at the end of his career, but is better known as a Queens native and former St. John's star, in addition to his turbulent tenure in the Association.
