Aussie man's awkward dilemma after barista leaves 'secret' messages on his girlfriend's coffee cups

Daily Mail10 hours ago

A boyfriend has spoken out about an awkward yet amusing dilemma after a barista started leaving 'secret' messages on his girlfriend's coffee cups.
Jake Craig, from Sydney, said he always makes his coffee using a French press at home - but his girlfriend Beth prefers an espresso from the cafe down the road.
Everything seemed fine until the cafe owner casually mentioned to his girlfriend that one of the baristas 'really missed you' after she hadn't come in for a week.
Then Jake noticed the tiny compliments the barista had been writing on Beth's coffee cups - including 'My love' and 'My secret love'.
'This guy's trying to steal my girl,' Jake said jokingly, laughing about the situation.
It all started when he moved in with his girlfriend just a couple of months ago where they both quickly learned about each other's coffee preferences.
'She doesn't like coffee at home. I like coffee at home,' Jake explained in his video.
'I offer to make her coffee every day like a loving boyfriend would but she doesn't want it because she would prefer an espresso coffee. I don't have that.
'So Beth has been going to this cafe for about three years. They know her, they know her order. She knows the main guy's name, he knows her name. Everyone knows each other.'
The co-host of the Relatables podcast said Beth stopped by the cafe the other day - the first time she'd been there in a week.
'She goes in... and the main dude says, "Oh Beth, it's been so long... we missed you" and then he looks over his shoulder at one of the baristas and he goes, "oh he really missed you",' Jake recalled.
'And Beth was like, "what?" And then he says to Beth, "don't tell Jack"... My name's Jake. He doesn't know me that well, he thinks my name's Jack.'
But things took an interesting turn when he noticed the barista had drawn a couple of hearts on Beth's coffee cup, along with the words 'My love'.
'It's from the one guy that missed her,' Jake pointed out.
'And I was like, ha ha he he whatever... Beth comes back all smiles and I was like, "oh you know, it is what it is, a nice compliment"... blah blah blah.
'But since then there has been two more messages, so three altogether.'
Jake explained that the first message was 'My love while the second had the words 'My secret'.
'The third message is today and Beth is about to show it to me. I have not seen it yet,' he said, as he asked Beth to hand him the coffee cup.
The latest message said: 'Beth, my secret love.'
'Oh my god, he's putting them together,' Jake said, suggesting that the barista was combining all the previous messages onto the new cup.
Taken aback by the barista's message to his girlfriend, Jake asked, 'What do I do about this? I don't know if they're joking or not, I don't think they're joking.
'Beth's all cheery about it as well.'
His girlfriend can be heard responding, 'So funny.'
Jake had an inkling the barista didn't like him - after he recently brought his dog Henry into the cafe for a puppuccino.
'So the main guy, he thinks my name's Jack but he's really nice to me, he still says hi... but the guy that's been writing messages to Beth, he wasn't giving me the time of day,' he explained.
'He took my order, he didn't smile, he didn't give a s***. He's like, "What do you want?"
'And I was like, f***, this guy full hates me.'
Jake concluded that he wasn't 'threatened' by the barista, but he still wanted to get advice from the internet on how to handle the situation.
'I do think it's crazy,' he said.
'She's not gonna go to a new coffee shop, it's the closest one and she likes the coffee there, whatever, it is what it is, but yes... I need advice.'
His video has been viewed more than 295,000 times - with many sharing entertaining advice on what Jake should do next.
'Looks like you're on pickup coffee duty under the name Beth from now on,' one said, laughing.
'You order one for Beth and tell them not to forget the hearts,' another joked.
'When he takes your order or hands you the coffee just say "Thank you, my secret love" and wink. Flip it. Make it fun,' one added.
'Well looks like you are proposing in a coffee shop now,' another hinted, laughing.
Many suggested that Jake should invest in an expensive espresso coffee machine and get barista training so he can make cafe-quality brew for Beth at home.
Meanwhile, many pointed out that Jake and Beth seemed to be in a 'healthy relationship' so they should just accept the compliments.
'Treat her beautifully and don't worry about it. It's actually a compliment to you and Beth,' one said.
'Can we just appreciate the healthy relationship. The fact you can all just laugh about it - me and my partner are the same. He always tells me "if you get a free drink, get me one too",' another added, laughing.
'The fact she's sharing it with you is green flags for sure,' one shared.

Jackie 'O' Henderson reveals she's strugged with 'sexless' past relationships - and why they failed

Jackie 'O' Henderson has confessed to having led 'sexless' relationships. The 50-year-old KIIS FM radio star confessed that she experienced a 'low sex drive' with partners in the past during an appearance on the Her Best Life podcast this week. 'In all my relationships, I have allowed it to get to a brother and sister dynamic', she told her best friend Gemma O'Neill during the intimate chat. Jackie said that she was 'fine' with the lack of sex at first in her partnerships because she did not want 'intimacy' either. 'I was busy, I was exhausted, I had a lot going on and I just didn't have a high sex drive for some reason,' she told best friend Gemma. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the Daily Mail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Jackie did not name names in her chat but she has previously discussed the challenges in her 18-year marriage with her ex Lee Henderson. She continued, explaining that her supposedly romantic relationships devolved into something more like 'room mates'. 'When I was in my relationship, he'd watch TV in that room, I'd watch it on my computer in this room and we weren't even connected in having a night just talking on the lounge' she said. 'Something like that is quite simple but it does make you feel more connected to your partner.' In a touching admission, Jackie said she wished she had 'made an effort to keep that intimacy going and make time for each other'. The lack of intimacy led to Jackie feeling 'undesirable' making the partnership 'unfixable'. Still, Jackie said that her experience was not unique with many of her friends having lived through a similar situation. 'The more I spoke to women, the more I realised this is actually really common in a lot of marriages. Like there's just no sex anymore,' she said. Meanwhile, Jackie admitted to feeling 'happy and content' in her life right now. It comes after Jackie admitted she is struggling to let go of an ex. She discussed moving on while appearing on a recent episode of the Her Best Life podcast. The radio queen told co-host Gemma that she was dealing with heartbreak. Despite being 'over' the relationship, Jackie said that in her weaker moments she thinks, 'That's my person'. Jackie said she hoped to 'completely let go' of the man but admitted that she 'doesn't know how' - but agreed that the man 'didn't show up' for her. Jackie never disclosed who the man was and has been private about her dating life. She was last linked to former toyboy Jack Tyerman - who has since announced his engagement to another woman. She also spoke about the relationship in August 2023. While Jackie admitted she was 'dating' at the time, she maintained she and Jack were 'just friends'. 'No, Jack is not my boyfriend. We're not in a relationship, not my boy toy,' Jackie told Kyle. 'Jack is a good friend of mine. I know him through a friend of ours. We didn't meet on a dating app or anything like that.' The media personality went on to say she was ultimately 'to blame' for the romance rumours after she told Daily Mail Australia she was dating someone during a Logies interview. 'In my mind, I'm dating and I've been on a few dates, so I said 'maybe' [I'm dating], but I probably should have said, 'Maybe, we'll see what happens,'' she confessed. Jackie's marriage to her ex-husband Lee Henderson fell apart in 2018. They share one daughter Kitty, 14.

EXCLUSIVE Living Nostradamus offers dire verdict on Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco's relationship following public scrutiny

A psychic who has successfully predicted numerous world events has made a major prediction about the future of Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco 's relationship - claiming that they are not soulmates, but something else entirely. Gomez, 32, and Blanco, 37, have been dating since 2023, taking their relationship to the next level when they got engaged in December 2024. The two have been loud and proud about their relationship, as they have both gushed over how secure, safe and loved they feel when they're together. 'There's no ego between us. She's praying for me to win and I'm praying for her to win. And I wake up in the morning - I know she does the same thing - and I'm like, "How can I make her life better?"' Blanco said about Gomez during a joint interview with Interview magazine earlier this year. 'Holding her isn't close enough. I want to be inside of her whole body. I just feel a thing for her that I can't even explain. I'm so sappy,' Blanco further added. However, they've faced their fair share of scrutiny since they've coupled up together, including cheating rumors, drama with Justin and Hailey Bieber, and even the 'ridiculous fight' they got into while recording their first joint album - but through it all, they've remained strong. But is their mutual lust for each other enough for a lasting relationship? Psychic Athos Salomé, 38, from Brazil, who is often referred to as the 'Living Nostradamus,' told the Daily Mail that he believes their romance has 'strength,' but 'not eternity.' The two have been loud and proud about their relationship, as they have both gushed over how secure, safe and loved they feel when they're together Salomé is called the 'Living Nostradamus' due to his numerous accurate predictions - including his forecasting of the coronavirus pandemic, Queen Elizabeth II's death and the Microsoft global outage. He noted that Blanco seems to be a 'safe haven' to Gomez after all that she's been through, but he warned that 'the difference between their soul purposes is the key point that could separate them.' 'Selena is increasingly connected to spirituality, collective healing, and public leadership,' Salomé told exclusively. 'Benny, on the other hand, carries a more intimate mission, behind the scenes, of protection,' he continued. 'This energetic misalignment tends to generate invisible friction that, in the medium term, makes the union unsustainable.' The clairvoyant claimed that it is possible that they will have an amicable breakup, or 'transition to a relationship of emotional convenience.' 'Selena is still influenced by external approval, no matter how spiritually evolved she may be,' the psychic said. He explained that it's outside critics that could have an effect on their relationship, leaving some cracks in their foundation. The clairvoyant reveals that criticism does not end the relationship immediately, but leaves cracks in the couple's subtle field. 'Benny, on the other hand, seems less affected by these pressures, which can lead to more emotional disconnection,' he said. And, at the end of the day, Salomé insists that they are not soul mates, but instead, 'soul companions.' 'This means that the relationship has a clear role of healing and emotional support, but does not carry the deep spiritual mission of soul mates, those who unite to face elevated and radical transformations,' he shared. The Living Nostradamus emphasized that Blanco came to 'heal a wounded part' of Gomez, while she came to 'show him a more expansive love.' 'But when this cycle of healing is complete, the relationship loses its center of gravity,' he shared. But despite the psychic's doubt for their relationship, it looks like wedding planning is still going ahead, as Gomez recently revealed that she's planning to ditch one bridal tradition. The singer shared during a recent podcast appearance that she's planning to ditch the classic bride and groom dance at their reception because she is too shy. 'I don't think we're looking at having one of those 'cause they're a little — I feel embarrassed,' she said an episode of Table Manners with Jessie and Lennie Ware. 'She's shy,' Blanco, who joined her on the podcast, confirmed. But while there won't be a traditional first dance, Selena revealed she is making room for a deeply meaningful moment — a special dance with her grandfather. 'He never got a chance to walk my mom down the aisle,' she shared. 'I wanted to give [my grandfather] the opportunity to have that.' Another tradition that will be on the dance floor? The Hora — also known as the 'chair dance' — as a nod to Blanco's Jewish heritage.

Waleed Aly says he 'led The Project into a ditch' as Peter Helliar returns to pays emotional tribute to his former co-star on second last show

Peter Helliar has returned to The Project as the axed show aired its second last episode on Thursday night. The comedian and former panellist, who quit the show in 2022, paid heartfelt tribute to his former co-star Waleed Aly. 'I will say this to you, Waleed, in particular. I'm a better person for having you in my life. I really mean that' an emotional Peter said. 'You are an incredible human being a great mate' he continued. 'It's been extraordinary to be on the desk with you... And Carrie (Bickmore), we shared a lot of those years together, seeing you doing your thing and doing it so well.' From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, . Gorgi Coghlan, also a former star of the show, likewise appeared on the episode and paid her own tribute to Waleed for his gusto in leading the show for a decade. 'I reiterate what Pete said, siting next to you every single night, being able to do this show was a master class in how to be an extraordinary human' she said. 'Thank you for everything that you've done for all of us, because you have led this show from go to woe and just been such an honour to sit next to you'. A coy Waleed chimed in with a joke: 'I think you would agree I ultimately led it into a ditch!' After more than a decade fronting The Project, Waleed is bracing himself for life after prime-time TV and the reality of being home in time for dinner. Speaking to Stellar, the 46-year-old broadcaster revealed that while he had a little more notice than some, the show's cancellation still came as a sudden shock. 'I only knew for less than a week before it was public. So it was all fairly sudden,' he said. 'The hardest day was definitely the day it was announced – that's when you are in the room with all your colleagues. People that you've worked with, in some cases, for more than a decade.' While Aly admitted the situation isn't unique to the television industry, he said the emotional weight of the announcement was felt deeply - especially by his own family. 'That's what's added to the emotional weight of all this, because my kids grew up through this show,' he said. 'And talking to the kids about it was actually harder than I expected. It hit them in a way that I didn't quite anticipate.' Aly, who shares two children - Aisha, 22, and Zayd, 18 – with wife Susan Carland, said returning to a regular home routine is a bittersweet adjustment. After years of missing family dinners due to his evening work schedule, he's preparing for a lifestyle shift that includes more cooking – and plenty of cleaning. 'I look forward to cooking more but it's scary contemplating the mountains of dishes I will have to get through. It's hard to see past them,' he said. Aly also acknowledged that his children are now young adults and likely beyond the age of wanting to spend much time with their parents, making the show's end feel like a missed opportunity to reclaim lost time. Despite the changes, Aly said he recognises that job losses and major career shifts are a part of life across all industries. 'This isn't a unique experience to us,' he added. '[It] happens across lots of industries and in lots of workplaces. It's sad every time.' After more than a decade fronting The Project, Waleed is bracing himself for life after prime-time TV and the reality of being home in time for dinner The Project will air its final episode with Aly on Friday night. The Project has been pulled from the schedule after 16 years and more than 4,500 episodes. Meanwhile, Channel Ten is moving forward with its major re-brand as the network prepares to launch a new current affairs show. The Project hosts Waleed Aly, Sarah Harris and Hamish Macdonald are set to exit the network, while comedian Taunton will continue his guest appearances on other Ten shows. Its final episode is set to air on June 27, and will be replaced by a single national 6pm news show.
