Tigers hang on to keep Eagles winless in AFL
Tom Brown's last-minute tackle has saved Richmond, who beat West Coast by two points in an entertaining battle of the AFL cellar dwellars.
Tom Gross was streaming forward in the last minute and Brown mowed him down from behind, allowing the Tigers to come away with victory by 11.15 (81) to 11.13 (79) on Sunday at the MCG.
Richmond hit the front with the last three behinds of the game and their experienced players, especially Toby Nankervis, Nathan Broad and Nick Vlastuin, were mighty in the final quarter as they held on for their third win of the season.
The last-placed Eagles are yet to win a second half this season.
Midfielders Tim Taranto and Jacob Hopper and forward Rhyan Mansell impressed for the Tigers, while young gun Harley Reid was prominent for West Coast and teammate Jamie Cripps kicked a game-high three goals.

Both sides were hit with late withdrawals.
First, Eagles co-captain Oscar Allen pulled out with a knee injury.
Then only minutes before the opening bounce, Jayden Short also came out of Richmond's line-up with the same problem.
The Tigers were on top initially, kicking the first three goals. But the Eagles bagged the last two of the term and another two to start the second quarter.

There were eight lead changes in the second term alone as the Eagles took control of the centre bounces and the Tigers counter-punched.
With five goals in the second quarter and Reid prominent, West Coast closed to within one point at the main break.
They edged ahead midway through the third quarter and looked ready to take control, but could only manage three straight behinds.
After the third Eagles miss, the Tigers quickly moved the ball down the other end and Mansell kicked his second goal late in the quarter.
Captain Nankervis, who looked groggy after being caught in a gang tackle earlier in the term, then marked and goaled and the Tigers took a four-point lead into the last quarter.

The No.3 was moved up the order to accomodate Cameron Green's return to the line-up for the WTC final, despite not having scored many runs across the last two years. Many felt Labuschagne's form deserved dropping, rather than finding a position to slot him in for the final. Labuschagne only averaged 25.36 across the summer, which followed 27.08 the previous campaign. And his latest two scores of 17 and 22 have not filled anyone with confidence he has found form in England. While Labuschagne took a great catch for one of Cummins' wickets, and was the only one to pass 20 in the top six, he once again failed to save Australia in either innings. And fans are all questioning why selectors are reluctant to move on. Aussie cricket icon Ricky Ponting suggested before the WTC final that the selectors would show faith in the players that got the team to the showdown at Lord's. This meant keeping Labuschagne and reinstating Green. However, fans are urging the selectors to start looking to the future with the likes of Konstas, Nathan McSweeney and Josh Inglis all showing form at domestic level and asking for a shot. South East Melbourne coach Josh King has been reunited with American point-guard Omari Moore, who has signed a one-year deal with the NBL club. Moore is the Phoenix's first import signing for the 2025/26 campaign as they look to build on last season's third-place finish and semi-finals series appearance. Grace Kim has fired a sizzling seven-under-par opening round to spearhead an Australian blitz at the Meijer LPGA Classic in Michigan. A year after losing to Lilia Vu in a playoff, Kim rattled off six birdies and an eagle at the par-5 10th hole in her round of 65 to be outright second behind South Korean Mi Hyang Lee. All up, five Australians occupy positions inside the top 15 at Blythefield Country Club in Belmont. Karis Davidson produced a bogey-free 66 to share third with Sofia Garcia of Paraguay. "I didn't expect I can hit the green there for my second shot," Lee said. "But it was a great line and good hit with the three wood and I made the green. It was almost 24 feet, like right-to left-eagle putt. I didn't expect to make it." The 32-year-old capped the bogey-free round with further birdies on 14 and 17. "I missed only two fairways," Lee said. "I think that's a lot of help to hit the greens a lot, too." Kim chipped in for eagle on 10 and for birdie on 11 in her morning round. "That was a good start to the back nine," the Sydneysider said. "Just kind of saved pars early and then loosened up as we went on. That was quite nice."
