The Northland Regional Council and farming groups are developing a plan to try to control an invasive weed known as the 'mad rag' or 'fireweed', amid fears it could spread to other regions.

RNZ's Alexa Cook won best journalist, and reporter Kate Green was awarded best new journalist. RNZ's journalism was also recognised for best team coverage on the sinking of the HMNZS Manawanui . RNZ was also a finalist in the category for its coverage of the Tangi of Kiingi Tuheitia. RNZ won five podcast categories, including best podcast producer or producing team. The Detail , a Newsroom production for RNZ, again picked up best news and current affairs podcast. Nellie's Baby , a hit podcast by RNZ investigative journalist Kirsty Johnston, won best society and culture podcast. In the radio categories, Newstalk ZB's Mike Hosking was awarded best talk presenter, ahead of stablemate Heather du Plessis, RNZ's Lisa Owen for Checkpoint and Morning Report' s Corin Dann and Ingrid Hipkiss. Sunday Morning host Jim Mora was recognised for services to broadcasting. Newstalk ZB won network station of the year and More FM Northland won local station of the year. The Sir Paul Holmes Broadcaster of the Year was Newstalk ZB's Heather du Plessis-Allan. The full list of winners is here . Geonet says the light earthquake occurred at 6.14pm and was at a depth of 21km and centred 15km west of Martinborough. By 6.20pm more than 1500 people had reported feeling it. Earlier Strong winds have lifted the roof of a house in the Wellington suburb of Newlands to land on a house on another street. The gales followed a night of heavy rain, thunderstorm warnings and strong winds across much of the country. MetService said the downpours across the North Island and parts of the South Island were giving way to snowfall on Wednesday night.
