Verizon's putting money on the Bills – and not in the way you think

Mobile carriers aren't just about price hikes, plan changes or device deals – even though that is usually what affects us most. Every now and then, though, they show up in other places you wouldn't expect – like the sports world.
Now, Verizon is making a big move on that front. The Buffalo Bills just announced that Verizon will be the exclusive wireless telecom partner for the team's new Highmark Stadium, which is scheduled to open in 2026. On top of that, Verizon is also being named a Founding Partner for the new venue. As the official 5G provider, Verizon will manage the stadium's neutral host Distributed Antenna System (DAS), basically laying the foundation for high-speed connectivity throughout the stadium.
The idea is to make sure Bills fans stay connected at all times – from sharing game moments to streaming content – without getting bogged down in the usual game-day signal overload. Verizon 's tech will also be powering the stadium's operations, sustainability efforts and logistics behind the scenes. Also, while construction is still underway, Verizon Business has already stepped in by providing temporary WiFi access points to help keep things running smoothly on-site.

It will feature massive video boards, advanced sound systems, broadcast facilities, locker rooms, a team store, concessions and even landscape work outside. And fans can expect more than just a good internet connection – Verizon customers will also get exclusive access to events, promotions and on-site perks all year long.
Given how much fans love sharing game-day moments, Verizon 's role is key. Back at the Super Bowl earlier this year, Verizon's tech powered a massive 93.5 TB of data usage as fans watched the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Kansas City Chiefs.
Fast and reliable connections matter in such crowded settings, where thousands of fans rely on their phones to share moments. This is the same reason AT&T also stepped up at the Superdome in New Orleans, upgrading its DAS to handle the crowd's demand for uninterrupted connectivity. So yeah, mobile carriers are definitely making moves to become the real MVPs – Most Valuable Providers – when it comes to live sports.

Have you noticed that application processors are getting more powerful and energy efficient every two to three years? That's because foundries develop lower process nodes resulting in smaller transistors that are show-horned into semiconductors. The more transistors inside a chip, known as the Transistor Count, the more powerful and energy-efficient a chip is. Also important is the Transistor Density which measures the number of transistors per square millimeter (Tr/mm²). Smaller node numbers usually indicate the higher density of a chip. A higher Transistor Density means that more transistors can be packed into the same physical space. Or, the foundry could make a chip with the same number of transistors much smaller. Higher density chips mean that the component can have a smaller die size allowing more to be cut from a silicon wafer thus reducing the cost of each chip. When transistors are closer together, which happens when a chip has a high Transistor Density, the electrical signals have less space to travel reducing latency and improving performance. According to Jeff Pu, an analyst with GF Securities, next year the iPhone 18 series will be powered by the A20 and A20 Pro application processors. These chipsets will be built by TSMC using its first-generation 2nm node known as N2. Thus, the A20 and A20 Pro will be the first 2nm processors found inside an iPhone and it will happen with next year's iPhone 18 and iPhone 18 Pro models respectively. Pu adds that in addition to being built using TSMC's 2nm process node, next year's iPhone application processors could feature a new packaging design called Wafer-Level Multi-Chip Module (WMCM). With this new design, multiple chips are integrated into the wafer before the latter is diced into individual chips. This would allow memory to be closer to parts of the chipset that use it such as the CPU, GPU, and Neural Engine. The shorter transits will improve the performance of the chip while allowing the phone to run cooler. It also could improve the handset's battery life. The size of the A20 and A20 Pro should be smaller than the A19 and A19 Pro SoCs that will power the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro lines this year. The smaller die size is expected to help make the A20 and A20 Pro as much as 15% faster than its predecessor and up to 30% more efficient.

YouTube app will no longer work on some older iPhone and iPad models

When Steve Jobs unveiled the original generation iPhone in 2007, many were surprised to see the device come with a pre-installed YouTube client. Apple even mentioned this in an ad it ran for the iPhone. "You'll be surprised by some of the stuff you find on YouTube," says the voiceover announcer while the ad shows the YouTube client on the device. As we see a YouTube video of a dog riding on a skateboard, the announcer adds, "But when it comes right down to it, maybe the biggest surprise is finding YouTube on your phone." Things changed with the release of iOS 6 beta 4 in 2012 when Apple removed the YouTube client from iOS (along with Google Maps). Google created iOS apps for YouTube and Google Maps that iPhone users continue to use to this day. But YouTube recently updated its iOS app to version 20.22.1 and with this update came an important change. To install the YouTube app on an iPhone, the handset must be running iOS 16 or later. As a result, several older iPhone models are no longer able to use the YouTube app. The iPhone models no longer compatible with the YouTube app are those that cannot be updated past iOS 15. These models include the following: iPhone 6s iPhone 6s Plus iPhone 7 iPhone 7 Plus iPhone SE (first-generation) Also included in this list is the iPod touch 7. As for the iPad, the YouTube app now requires that the tablet run iPadOS 16 or later. As a result, there are a couple of iPad models that will no longer be compatible with the iOS YouTube app. These models are the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 4. Some time later this year, Samsung will launch the much-awaited Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 foldable smartphones. And if the rumors are true — they very likely are — then Samsung has already won this year's foldable contest. Well…except perhaps in the U.S. You see, the foldable industry isn't really doing too hot nowadays. Some phone manufacturers are actually considering pulling out of this segment entirely due to poor sales. Samsung is one of the very few smartphone brands that still considers it profitable enough to continue making foldables. And even then, the company has had to massively tone down sales expectations for the upcoming Fold 7 and Flip 7 . So Samsung had to find a way to make sure that this year's stock of Galaxy foldables actually sold out. And it might just have done so, at least in most of the world. The Fold 6 was great, but the Fold 7 will be much better for the same price. | Image credit — PhoneArena A very reputable industry insider, especially when it comes to news about the Galaxy phones, has just shared that Samsung is not increasing the prices of its upcoming foldables. To further clarify: the Fold 7 and Flip 7 will cost the same as their predecessors in most regions. This, in my opinion, was a crucial step for Samsung to take. The company is also working on a tri-foldable smartphone that is slated for release later this year. Samsung has already decided that the tri-foldable will see a very limited release in only a select few markets. This is because the company does not expect to sell too many of these phones due to their the Fold 7 and Flip 7 are going to come with better hardware and larger displays, they don't have enough improvements to necessarily warrant an upgrade for most users. Keeping them at the same price as the Fold 6 and Flip 6 gives consumers more incentive to give the company's new phones a try. Both Samsung and Apple face threats in the States. | Image credit — PhoneArena While this news is cause for celebration amongst tech enthusiasts, the fact that not all markets will see the same price tags is concerning. It is highly likely that the U.S. will, in fact, see more expensive Galaxy foldables this year compared to most of the is, of course, due to the current ongoing problems that companies are facing due to extremely volatile and ever-changing tariff rates. Samsung has not nearly been affected as badly as its largest rival in the States, Apple, but it is still seeing some disruptions company moved all of its production out of China years ago, which has saved it from the most unpredictable tariff rates currently in play. However, its other manufacturing hubs in Vietnam, India, and Indonesia are subject to high tariffs as well. If there is any region that I would bet is going to see more expensive Flip 7 and Fold 7 models, it's the U.S. Apple is also considering raising prices for the upcoming iPhone 17 series, and certain other products have already been slapped with higher price tags. The question now is, are consumers in the U.S. willing to pay more for the same product? Samsung has genuinely made some great improvements to the Galaxy Z Fold 7 , including a larger display and a thinner chassis. But the Fold 6 is also still a great choice for a foldable might begin to see older phones skyrocketing in popularity in the States until the whole tariff business has calmed down. Worst case scenario, for the phone manufacturers in particular, is that they'll have to wait four years for the current administration's term to end, so things can go back to normal. It's highly unlikely that any major company is going to seriously consider moving production to the U.S. I would decide based on just how big the price difference is. If Samsung and Apple go overboard with their prices, then the iPhone 16 and the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will be much more viable options. However, if the price increase isn't too hard to stomach — which is a very different threshold for every individual — then it might be worth splurging a little extra anyway.
