Navy to test water near former base for possible chemicals
MILLINGTON, Tenn. — The Navy is calling for assistance from some Millington homeowners or business owners with private drinking water wells to test for possible chemicals near the former Naval Air Station Memphis.
They are sampling water from private drinking wells to ensure it's safe and meets the federal government's guidelines.
FBI targets Memphis cargo thefts to combat rising crime
Residents are being asked to schedule a sampling appointment by June 27.
The Navy says it's doing this because groundwater samples collected in 2023, from the former Naval Air Station in Memphis, exceeded the EPA's National Primary Drinking Water Regulations.
Officials say the groundwater samples contained firefighting foam or other materials with human-made chemicals, also known as PFAs.
The Navy wants to determine if the water in nearby private drinking wells contains similar levels.

Samples are not needed if your water is provided by the City of Millington or MLGW.
They say if your water is not publicly owned, your assistance is requested. Officials say you can expect to receive the preliminary results within 30 days.
If the water samples don't meet federal guidelines, officials tell WREG they will work with property owners for a solution.
The Navy is asking residents to leave a name, property address, and phone number, and a representative will return the call. To schedule an appointment, call 888-671-2560.

Norfolk-based USS Gravely captures hundreds of pounds of cocaine worth over $13 million
The Norfolk-based USS Gravely last week seized more than 850 pounds of narcotics while in the Caribbean Sea. The ship's search and seizure team had boarded a 'vessel of interest' on May 25 and found 19 bales of cocaine, according to a news release from the Navy. A spokesperson for the Navy said the drugs had a street value of $13.6 million. 'Seamless integration of U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard maritime assets (are) integral to border protection — this is an excellent example of that teamwork,' said Vice Adm. Doug Perry, commander of the U.S. 2nd Fleet. 'Border security is national security.' The USS Gravely has been in the gulf since March 15 and works with Coast Guard personnel to target drug trafficking, illegal immigration and transnational crime.

Secretary of the Navy ENDS Animal Testing!
I'm a conservative AND an animal lover so this announcement from the Secretary of the Navy really makes me smile! I'm Tomi Lahren, find out next. Animal testing is cruel, abusive and with new technology, also increasingly UNNECESSARY! That's why I am so happy to hear the announcement from the Secretary of the Navy that ALL testing on cats and dogs will be TERMINATED! The Secretary's proclamation also rightfully stated that not only is this practice inhumane, it's a WASTE of taxpayer dollars. He also thanked Secretary Hegseth and DOGE for bringing it to light. But this goes even further, the surgeon general of the Navy will also conduct a review of all medical research programs to ensure they align with ethical guidelines. DOGE has also had a hand in ending ridiculous trans experiments conducted by the NIH on various animals. This is a big deal and one I hope even Trump and conservative-hating liberals can get behind. I can't think of a better savings for taxpayers than ENDING the cruel and unethical treatment of defenseless animals!
