In the film, Butler plays Hank Thompson, "a former baseball player who 'unexpectedly finds himself embroiled in a dangerous struggle for survival amidst the criminal underbelly of 1990s New York City, forced to navigate a treacherous underworld he never imagined," per the official logline, reported Variety.
Butler is joined by cast members Bad Bunny,
Matt Smith
, Regina King, Vincent D'Onofrio, Action Bronson,
Liev Schreiber
and Griffin Dunne. Zoe Kravitz plays Butler's love interest.
The film is written by
Charlie
Huston and adapted from his book series. "I am excited to be teaming up with my old friends at Sony Pictures to bring Charlie's adrenaline-soaked roller coaster ride to life. I can't wait to start working with Austin and my family of NYC filmmakers," Aronofsky said earlier, reported Variety.
Aronofsky's recent projects include 2022's 'The Whale'. He also directed 'Mother!' (2017), 'Black Swan' (2010) and 'Requiem for a Dream' (2000)'.
"Darren is one of the most brilliant audiovisual storytellers in the world, and adapting these wonderful books by Charlie Huston for Austin to star was too exciting an opportunity not to be a part of," Sanford Panitch, president of Sony Pictures' Motion Picture Group, said in a previous announcement.
Butler recently appeared in the miniseries "Masters of the Air" and the Denis Villeneuve film 'Dune: Part Two', which won two Oscars at this year's ceremony. Kravitz recently directed the film 'Blink Twice'.

Earlier, in his GQ interview, Pitt opened up about the pressure Formula 1 drivers face, comparing it to the kind of scrutiny movie stars deal with. 'Those guys are so scrutinised, and that sport is so revered, and there are so many of us that think we could do it too, just because we drive a car fast down the freeway or something. They get so much s**t. It is shocking to me. They've got to have thicker skin than even us.' To shoot F1, the team actually followed the real F1 circuit for a year and even received permission to film during actual race weekends, within a tiny window of just 10–15 minutes. They set up over 20 cameras and had to capture everything in a rush before the track opened again. Kannada Sahitya Parishat seeks to join petition against Kamal film release
Bengaluru: The Kannada Sahitya Parishat (KSP), has filed an impleading application before the high court in connection with a petition filed by Chennai-based Raajkamal Films International, producer of the Kamal Haasan-starrer 'Thug Life'. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Opposing the plea for police protection sought by the production house for the film's release in Karnataka, KSP, through its president Mahesh Joshi, argued that the Constitution does not grant absolute protection to speech, especially when it is likely to disturb public harmony or hurt the dignity of a language and its people. Referring to Kamal's controversial remark that Kannada originated from Tamil, KSP called it an intentional or reckless statement that undermines the status of Kannada. The apex body for Kannada literature also stated that the actor has not issued a formal apology or made any sincere attempt to clarify his stand. In its filing, KSP contended that police resources should not be used to protect commercial interests. It added that public protests, boycott calls, or expressions of anger over the film are all part of democratic expression, and do not automatically amount to unlawful threats that merit state protection. "The very Constitution the petitioner invokes to seek protection also allows peaceful dissent and criticism. To oppose a film is not to endanger law and order," KSP said. On June 3, the court adjourned the hearing after the filmmakers assured that 'Thug Life' would not be released in Karnataka until a dialogue is held with the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC). The matter is now posted to June 13 for further hearing.
