Woman arrested for dropping Chihuahua from 6th floor of apartment building
Police in Nagoya have arrested a 52-year-old unemployed woman on suspicion of violating the animal welfare law after she dropped her Chihuahua from the sixth floor of her apartment building.
Police said the incident occurred on April 18 at the building in Minato Ward.
According to a Chukyo TV report, the woman, Kaori Araki, was drinking with a friend when the conversation turned to her dog. She suddenly picked up the 19-year-old male Chihuahua and said she was going to drop him to the ground.
Araki took the dog out into the corridor, leaned over the railing and dropped it. The dog survived the fall but suffered brain damage.
After the incident, Araki's friend called police.
Police said Araki has given no motive for her act.

Police arrest driver who left 2 children in car after crash on Tomei Expressway
Police in Omaezaki City, Shizuoka Prefecture, have arrested a 47-year-old unemployed man on suspicion of violating the Road Traffic Act for driving without a license and abandoning a car at the scene of an accident. Police said the man, Akiya Kurebayashi, fled from the scene, leaving two children, aged 8 and 7, in the back seat of the car, NTV reported. According to police, the accident occurred at around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday on a bridge over the Tomei Expressway in Chuo Ward in Hamamatsu City. The car driven by Kurebayashi crashed through a guardrail and fell about 10 meters onto the Tomei Expressway. Kurebayashi was uninjured and left the scene. The two children suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital. Local media quoted a witness as saying,"The driver crawled out of the car. I asked him what happened and he said he dozed off for a few seconds. He wasn't angry at himself for causing the accident or like he'd done something. He had a smartphone in one hand." Police found Kurebayashi walking alone in a hotel parking lot in Chuo Ward on Monday morning and he was arrested. Police said his driver's license had been revoked about 10 years ago after a hit-and-run incident, and the car he was driving was registered to someone else. Staff member at Saga child welfare facility fatally stabbed
A 55-year-old woman who works at a child welfare facility in Saga City, Saga Prefecture, was fatally stabbed on Saturday. Police arrested a 28-year-old woman at the scene. The suspect, Mira Hirata, an office worker, was quoted by police as saying, "I don't have any memory (of the incident), so I don't know anything,' NTV reported. Police said Hirata is accused of stabbing Chie Kawahara at around 5:40 p.m. on Saturday. Another employee at the facility called police and said a woman with a knife had stabbed someone. Kawahara was taken to hospital, with knife wounds to her arms and chest. She died about 90 minutes later. Police believe that Hirata went to the facility to see her child who was there. Hirata was involved in another incident on May 13 when she showed up at another welfare city in Saga City, screaming "Give my child back to me.'
