New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has achieved a crucial breakthrough in the Baisaran, Pahalgam terror attack case that took place on April 22 killing 26 people as the agency disclosed that three Pakistani nationals carried out the massacre. An NIA spokesperson said that these three are Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists whose names and identity have beef emerged for the first time.
Pictures of three suspects, including Adil Hussain Tokar, a local terrorist from Anantnag in south Kashmir while the two others, Hashim Musa and Ali Bhai from Pakistan, had been released by the Jammu and Kashmir Police soon after the attack.
'We have arrested two people and they have revealed that three Pakistani Lashkar terrorists were involved in Baisaran. These three are not the same whose sketches were released,' said an NIA official.
The two men arrested by the NIA are accused of sheltering the terrorists who carried out the Baisaran massacre. 'Parvaiz Ahmad Jothar from Batkote, Pahalgam and Bashir Ahmad Jothar of Hill Park, Pahalgam, have disclosed the identities of the three armed terrorists involved in the attack, and have also confirmed that they were Pakistani nationals affiliated to the proscribed terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT),' the NIA spokesperson said.
Parvaiz and Bashir had 'knowingly harboured the three armed terrorists at a seasonal dhok (hut) at Hill Park before the attack', says the NIA probe.
'The two men had provided food, shelter and logistical support to the terrorists, who had, on the fateful afternoon, selectively killed the tourists on the basis of their religious identity, making it one of the most gruesome terrorist attacks ever,' the NIA spokesperson said.
This is the first arrest in the case since the April 22 massacre. Top NIA officials said they are working on the leads provided by the arrested accused to figure out where the three terrorists could be hiding. A massive manhunt was launched based on the sketches released by the Jammu and Kashmir Police. However, new revelations have led to further attempts to identify the fugitive terrorists. 'This is a massive success,' police officials in Jammu and Kashmir said.
The NIA has arrested Parvez and Bashir under Section 19 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 and it will seek further custody to question the two after producing them in the court.
The Pahalgam attack sparked nationwide outrage following which India launched Operation Sindoor to avenge the killings and targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir.

Several senior leaders of Imran Khan's party get relief from Pak courts

Several senior leaders of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan's party have been granted relief by courts in protest-related cases, a media report said on Sunday (June 22, 2025). Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders, including its chairman Gohar Ali Khan and Leader of the Opposition Omar Ayub, were on Saturday acquitted by a court in Islamabad in two protest-related cases from last year, the Dawn newspaper reported. Islamabad Judicial Magistrate Shahzad Ahmed announced the verdict in the cases related to a protest on April 26 last year. The protest moved from the office of PTI leader Shoaib Shaheen towards the Karachi Company, reportedly in violation of Section 144 and other legal provisions. After hearing all arguments, the court acquitted Barrister Gohar, Omar Ayub, Ali Bukhari, Shoaib Shaheen, Malik Rafique, Amir Dogar, Amir Mughal and others. Meanwhile, an anti-terrorism court in Lahore granted bail to former Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi in a May 9, 2023, riots case. ATC-I Judge Manzer Ali Gill announced the verdict in the case related to the Shadman Police Station attack case during the May 9 riots that erupted after the arrest of PTI founder Khan. The judge deferred till June 26 a decision on another bail petition of the PTI leader in a case relating to the burning of police vehicles near Lahore Corps. Mr. Qureshi's counsel had argued that the PTI leader was not even present in Lahore on May 9 — the day of the alleged attack — and was in Karachi with his wife for her medical treatment. The counsel stated that the allegation of conspiracy against Mr. Qureshi regarding the May 9 attacks was not proven and the petitioner should be granted bail, as many co-suspects in the same case had already been allowed bail. Earlier, former Punjab governor Omar Sarfraz Cheema also filed a bail petition in the same Shadman Police Station attack case. Mr. Khan is booked in several cases in Lahore in connection with the May 9, 2023, violence, including for allegedly inciting his supporters to attack government and military buildings, which erupted after his arrest by paramilitary Rangers from the Islamabad High Court premises. The 72-year-old cricketer-turned-politician has been behind bars since August 2023 after he was booked in multiple cases.

Scheduled Caste man assaulted, his hut vandalised in Mayiladuthurai

A Scheduled Caste man was assaulted and his thatched hut was vandalised in an act of alleged caste-based violence at Mela Manganallur in Mayiladuthurai district. The attack stemmed from the resentment among members of the Most Backward Community (MBC) against the only Scheduled Caste house in the locality. The police have arrested four persons for the assault and registered a case under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police sources said M. Dhakshnamurthy, 50, of Kappur village, purchased a house on poramboke land at Mela Manganallur in 2022 from a former MBC resident. The village has around 20 houses, all occupied by MBC members. Since he moved in, Dhakshnamurthy and family had faced threats. On Sunday morning, Dhakshnamurthy's son, Sathriyan, 28, was near the house when a group allegedly entered the premises, dismantled the thatched structure, and attacked him with an iron rod. He was injured and admitted to a nearby hospital. The incident triggered blockade of the Mayiladuthurai-Kuthalam Road. CPI(M) district secretary P. Srinivasan and Tamil Nadu Untouchability Eradication Front district secretary C. Meganathan led the protest, demanding the immediate arrest of the assailants. Superintendent of Police G. Stalin visited the area and ordered an inquiry. The police later arrested A. Arivu, 50; M. Sivakumar, 49; R. Natarajan, 55 (all from Mela Manganallur); and K. Keerthivasan, 52, of Arivoli Mangalam. They were booked under six provisions of the BNS for assault and criminal intimidation and three Sections of the the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act for house trespass, casteist abuse, and destruction of property. They were remanded in judicial custody, the police said.
