"Child Labour A Curse", Says Yogi Adityanath, Urges Collective Action

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday called child labour a "curse" and urged citizens to unite against the practice by ensuring that every child receives education, security and dignity.
Taking to social media platform X on the occasion of World Day Against Child Labour, the Chief Minister stressed that only through awareness and collective effort against child labour can a sensitive and empowered society be built for the future.
"Child labour is a curse, it cannot be accepted! Let us, on this World Day Against Child Labour, pledge to connect every child with education, safety, dignity and values," he said.
Observed annually on June 12, the World Day Against Child Labour was launched by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in 2002 to highlight the plight of child labourers worldwide.
The day aims to generate awareness and action to eliminate all forms of child labour, especially its worst forms, which include hazardous work, forced labour and exploitation.

Rajamahendravaram: Eradication of child labour is not just a legal obligation but a vital social responsibility, said Additional Superintendent of Police (Law & Order), East Godavari district, AV Subba Raju. He said that the future of the nation is closely linked with the bright future of its children. Speaking on the occasion of World Day Against Child Labour and as part of Anti Child Labour Month observance, he unveiled a poster at his office on Thursday bearing the message: 'Let's create learning environments for children, not workplaces.' The campaign was jointly organised by Child Rights Advocacy Foundation, AP Pro-Child Group, and Godavari Child Rights Forum. He said that the International Labour Organisation (ILO) introduced World Day Against Child Labour in 2002, aiming to raise awareness among the public about the harms of child labour and to urge parents to send their children to school, not to work. Subba Raju stressed that parents must not engage children in any form of labour under any circumstances. 'Those found employing children will face penalties including fines and imprisonment,' he warned. The government, he said, is implementing several welfare schemes for children and called upon the public to utilise these initiatives to secure a golden future for the younger generation. He said that multiple laws exist to protect child rights and that the police department is working jointly with the education department to enforce them effectively. He also appreciated the efforts of voluntary organisations working for child welfare. Develop Mathura, Kanpur as model cities: Adityanath
Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday said infrastructure facilities should be developed in Mathura-Vrindavan, preserving the cultural and religious integrity of the area while generating employment opportunities. He was reviewing the 'Vision 2030' plans prepared for the development of Mathura-Vrindavan and Kanpur in a meeting with officers of state government departments. Mathura and Kanpur administration officers joined the meeting through video conference. The chief minister emphasised that Mathura's cultural significance and Kanpur's industrial prominence should be integrated to develop both as model cities with active participation of public representatives, entrepreneurs, youths and citizens. 'The comprehensive development of Mathura and Kanpur would be a step toward realising the 'Viksit Bharat 2047' vision,' he said. In the last 50 years, the Mathura-Vrindavan region has suffered due to the unplanned development and deterioration of the heritage, the chief minister observed. Officers informed the CM 195 projects worth ₹30,080 crore have been proposed for the development of Mathura-Vrindavan. The chief minister directed that access roads, drinking water, sanitation, and rest areas at religious sites be developed without compromising their sanctity. He called the planned digital museum, convention centre and the Green Path in Vrindavan a long-term investment. The chief minister instructed the officers that a statue of Swami Haridas should be installed at the under-construction Swami Haridas auditorium. Additionally, he directed that a Krishna Lok Park should be developed within the Jawahar Bagh premises on the public-private partnership (PPP) model, along with the comprehensive development of the facade on the Vrindavan Parikrama Marg. The remaining land in Jawahar Bagh should be developed into a city forest, he said. The chief minister also directed that approach roads and campus development work leading to the temples of Radharani's Ashtasakhis should be completed on priority. Reviewing the eco-restoration of 36 forests in Braj region, the CM called for planting and conservation of the Krishna-era flora. The clean and uninterrupted flow of the Yamuna must become a people's movement, requiring collective resolve, he said. Officials presented 61 projects worth over ₹37,000 crore for development of Kanpur under Vision 2030. The CM was briefed on plans like New Kanpur City, Knowledge City, Medicity, Atal Nagar (land pooling model), EV Park, Aerocity, and Mega MSME Cluster—all aimed at boosting Kanpur's socio-economic development. New Kanpur City will be developed over 153 hectares at a cost of ₹1,169 crore and will include 2,000 residential plots and various commercial zones for a population of 35,000. Among the 29 infrastructure projects proposed are outer ring road, Trans-Ganga Bridge, RRTS, metro expansion, integrated bus terminal, road junction improvements, and deployment of electric buses. Under ITMS, an intelligent signalling system and CCTV network will be installed at 102 major intersections to modernise traffic control. The CM ordered the relocation of the central city bus stand to the outskirts and creation of multiple bus stations if needed, along with new city bus stands, a convention centre and an urban haat. The CM directed that all city parks be developed as theme-based parks in collaboration with NGOs or voluntary organisations. He emphasised the need to bring all district and divisional-level government offices under one roof in Mathura and Kanpur.

Yogi accuses previous govts of ‘promoting cheating' in board exams
Accusing the previous governments in Uttar Pradesh of 'promoting cheating' by students in school board exams, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday said that before he came to power in 2017, the basic education was in decline in the state. Addressing students at an event to felicitate top performers in state and national board exams, Adityanath said: 'Previous governments had introduced two major businesses in Uttar Pradesh—one in the name of cheating and the other in transfer-posting. Exam Centres were operated on a wholesale basis for cheating. External candidates filled out forms, and someone else appeared in their place for the exams. Simultaneously, transfer and posting became an entire industry.' Claiming that 'malpractices' were curbed by adopting a 'transparent and fair' system, the CM said: 'Exams are now held only at centres with CCTV surveillance, boundary walls, adequate infrastructure, and proper furniture. Furthermore, exams that used to stretch over two to three months are now completed within 13–14 days.' The chief minister claimed that over 800,000 youths have been given government jobs transparently across all sectors by his government. 'From 1947 to 2017, only 10,000 women were recruited into the police force. Now, in one go, more than 12,000 women are being recruited,' he said. At the event, where he awarded gold medalists of the 68th National School Sports Competition 2024–25 with the Chief Minister's School Sports Award, Adityanath advised students to not damage national property. 'If someone is doing so, stop them. If you feel powerless, report it. Share a photo—we will handle the rest and recover the damages. Public property is national property and a collective responsibility,' the CM added. At the 68th National School Sports Competition, 363 players from Uttar Pradesh participated and won 179 medals—51 gold, 46 silver, and 82 bronze. The state government is providing Rs 75,000 for gold, Rs 50,000 for silver, and Rs 30,000 for bronze medalists. In team events, the prize money is Rs 35,000 for gold, Rs 25,000 for silver, and Rs 15,000 for bronze medal.
