YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Youngstown Salem Boxing Club is bringing another 15 bout amateur boxing card to the Valley with Fight to Unite 10.
Watch the video above for extended interviews with Joey Kline, Mike Hopkins, Giavoni Farina, Jaimee Reid, Liliana Sykes and Malachi Signore in the video above!
'It feels great, honestly, especially local shows there's a lot of there's just a lot of feelings leading up to it. You get to compete in front of all your fans and your family,' said Kline, a boxer from Newton Falls.
The night, in support of child abuse awareness, will feature 15 championship bouts on May 10 at the home of Youngstown Salem Boxing Club at 8590 Hitchcock Road in Youngstown.
'It's really nice to see the people who drive by and beep when I'm running, it's really nice when it all pays off and they get to see my smiling face when we win,' Struthers native Giovani Farnia said. 'But I love the small town support, and it means everything.'
While there are some experienced fighters returning to the ring, Youngstown Salem Boxing Club coach Alecia DeFrank says they have a new batch of talent eager for their first bout.
'We have quite a few new athletes that the community has not even seen yet, so I'm excited to see if they're going to listen in the ring and, you know, do what the coaches tell them to do,' DeFrank said. 'But at the end of the day, as long as they come out safe, that's all that matters.'
Doors will open at 5 p.m. with the first bout starting at 6 p.m.

Steelers star skips the start of mandatory minicamp

PITTSBURGH, Pa. (WKBN) – Pittsburgh Steelers star linebacker T.J. Watt skipped the first day of mandatory minicamp on Tuesday. The four-time All-Pro and 2021 AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year is entering the final season of the four-year extension he signed in September 2021. Complicating matters is the $40 million deal signed by Cleveland's Myles Garrett in March, which made him the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL. 'Certainly we'd like him to be here, but certainly not surprised by where we are,' said Pittsburgh coach Mike Tomlin. 'We've expressed the desire to get the business done, he has as well, and so we'll continue to work. We've been here before.' Watt finished the 2024 season with 11 1/2 sacks. His absence from mandatory mini-camp provided opportunities for linebacker Nick Herbig and rookie Jack Sawyer. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
