Yahoo10-05-2025

FIREFIGHTERS were not able to ascertain a cause for a fire in Delamere Forest according to the forest's management - Forestry England.
All of the emergency services attended an area of the forest off Station Road in response to a report on the afternoon of Tuesday, May 8.
A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said fire engines from Northwich Fire Station, Winsford Fire Station, and other fire stations were at work on an area of three to five acres until after midday the next day.
A Forestry England spokesperson said firefighters were not able to ascertain the cause for the fire although they, and the fire service, said there are things the visitors to the woodland are able to do to avoid further incidents.

"If you are out and about in the countryside please protect it by not lighting a barbecue or a campfire and dispose of your litter and your smoking materials responsibly."
The wildfire was a couple of weeks after a wildfire warning for the area by Cheshire Police.
On Easter Monday, in a post on social media, the police said this year of wildfires is on track to be the worst year of wildfires on record with an area around the same size as Birmingham already burnt by incidents across the UK.

They said this is a big threat to flora and fauna which, in Delamere Forest, includes a number of Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs).
The damage to flora and fauna from this week is under examination by an ecologist although the initial impression is it is not too significant.
The post said: "Delamere Forest is on an SSSI peat moss bog which could burn for months.
"Spring is an enhanced risk due to extensive, dry, dead ground vegetation such as bracken."

Watch: Bear cools off in California pool months after Eaton Fire threatened local wildlife

PASADENA, Calif. – A bear was caught relaxing in a pool in Southern California on Wednesday, months after the Eaton Fire burned nearby and threatened the local bear population. The Eaton Fire began on Jan. 7 and, fueled by powerful Santa Ana Winds, scorched over 14,000 acres of the San Gabriel Mountains and communities throughout Southern California. Concerns over how much the wildfire affected the area's wildlife community, in particular, were eased a bit when home security camera system showed a bear sauntering around the pool of a Pasadena home. "I was in the kitchen looking out, and she walked around to the shallow end and got in," homeowner Ramona Mucciolo told Storyful. She nicknamed the bear "Cinnamon," and noted how the animal's presence was a good sign for nature rebounding after the California wildfires. "Several bears frequented our neighborhood," Mucciolo said. "Since the fire, none had returned until June 4, when Cinnamon showed up and relaxed in our pool. We rejoice at least one bear has survived the fires." How To Watch Fox Weather Black bears, such as Cinnamon, are native to Southern California and throughout the Golden State, according to the state's Department of Fish and Wildlife. Sudden downpours and rumbles of thunder across parts of England

Heavy rain and showers have produced rumbles of thunder across parts of England on Saturday. It came as a particularly intense band of showers charged east through the south and west, and forecasters said people should expect sudden downpours, thunder and dramatic skies. A Met Office yellow weather warning for thunderstorms was in place for most the day. The highest rainfall total was in Worlds End, Hampshire, where 31.9mm was recorded in the 12 hours to 8.30pm. The deluge saw rainfall totals of around 27-28mm across the southern stretch of the UK. Met Office data shows England recorded 32.8mm of rain last month – almost half the usual monthly average. The weather warning was initially for parts of central and southern England and Wales to 6pm, and was later altered to cover east, south-east and south-west England to 9pm. Sunday starts dry and bright for many, with some early sunshine ☀️ A little cloudier in the far west with scattered showers 🌦️ Remaining breezy, especially in and around any showers 🌬️ — Met Office (@metoffice) June 7, 2025 As the weather warning expired, Met Office meteorologist Zoe Hutin said: 'The band that had the most active showers on it, so had the most sort of lightning strikes within it, is now just off of the east coast of the country. 'The area of deepest instability has moved away. There are still a few reports of lightning across central England, but I think the worst of it is moving out of the way. 'We've lost the daytime heating, and the temperatures today were also adding to that instability and the development of those thunderstorms.' Top temperature was 19.4C in Manston, Kent, which was one of the areas hit by the downfalls along with Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk, which endured the heaviest showers and thunderstorms and recorded temperatures of around 18.7C. Conditions are now expected to settle down, but while 'there could still be some heavy down bursts at times and heavy showers at times – I think the worst is behind us,' Ms Hutin said. Conditions are expected to improve on Sunday, with a drier day forecast for many, though showers may linger in parts of the North and East. Clear and sunny spells are expected for many areas but there could be some more persistent showers later in the West and North West.
