Sultan of Pahang proposes centre to promote Jawi script
PEKAN: The Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, has expressed plans to establish the Pahang Jawi Reference Centre to serve as a hub for education and the preservation of the Jawi script.
The ruler said a dedicated body or institution should be established under the Pahang Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (Muip) to officially conduct Jawi courses, training sessions, and certification programmes.
"I urge all relevant quarters to give full commitment to the proposal, as the Jawi script is a significant heritage and a symbol of Islamic civilisation that must be preserved.
"The Jawi agenda should not be viewed merely as an addition or complement but rather an essential element in shaping a civilised and identity-driven state," he said in his speech when attending Muip's 194th meeting here today.
The Kesultanan Pahang Facebook page also wrote that Muip deputy president Tengku Panglima Raja Brig Gen Tengku Amir Nasser Ibrahim Shah was also present.

Having won just 3.87 per cent of the total vote in last year's legislative election, the PPP, the country's oldest Islamic party, failed to meet the four per cent threshold needed to send representatives to the national legislature for the first time since its formation. The party is now aiming to make a comeback at the House of Representatives in 2029 and planning to hold a congress either in August or September this year to elect a definitive chairman who will lead the effort. PPP council head and the party's former chair, Muhammad 'Romy' Romahurmuziy, told The Jakarta Post on Sunday (June 1) that support is swelling among the PPP's regional offices for former Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan and Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman to join the race for the party's chairmanship. Both Anies and Amran are currently unaffiliated with any party. 'Anies' name has come up as of late, especially from our Jakarta office, where members feel a special connection with him,' Romy said. 'Meanwhile, regional chapters in South Sulawesi, Riau and several other areas have voiced their support for Amran.' After losing the 2024 presidential race in February and missing the chance to stage a reelection campaign in Jakarta a few months after, Anies is set to remain out of public office until at least 2029. Despite this, he retains widespread popularity, especially among Muslim voters. KUALA LUMPUR: Enforcement agencies in the country have expressed appreciation for the call made by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, urging them to carry out their duties with integrity to ensure continued public trust and respect for the uniformed services. Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the Royal Address was a timely reminder that aligns closely with the core principles of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), 'Firm, Fair and Prudent', in performing their roles to uphold the law and maintain national security. 'PDRM underscores the importance of integrity as the core foundation of every action taken by its personnel. Integrity is a trust and responsibility borne by every member of the force, in line with Islamic teachings which call for honesty, sincerity, and justice in all undertakings,' he said in a statement today. According to Razarudin, the police force will continue to improve integrity, reinforce good governance within the force, and combat all forms of misconduct to ensure that its image remains respected by the public. 'PDRM stands firmly behind His Majesty's order and affirms that every member of the force will continue to uphold noble values in carrying out their duties for the sake of religion, race, and nation,' he emphasised.
