What we know
In May 2022, Rogers' parents drove hours from their Texas homes to 24th and Becher. Their 23-year-old daughter was reported missing on May 1.
But she was last seen alive days earlier by her then-boyfriend, Nicholas Matzen. They were at the home they shared with their one-year-old child.
Rogers' body was found in St. Francis, days after she was reported missing.
Prosecutors charged the then-35-year-old with killing Rogers and dumping her body. He was arrested days before Rogers died on an unrelated matter.
In an interview, police spoke to someone who had reportedly spoken with Matzen on April 27, 2022. The complaint states Matzen told the person "I (expeletive) up, I hurt her" and that Rogers was dead. Later, the person said Matzen informed them that "the job is done" and they "don't have anything to worry about."

Matzen allegedly told the person he had broken Rogers' neck, per the complaint. An autopsy ruled her cause of death asphyxia in the manner of homicide.

What's next
Nearly three years later, Matzen's homicide trial is moving forward. He's on his third defense attorney.
In between, asking and getting denied to represent himself and scheduling delays.
On Monday, March 3, 14 jurors were selected, with eight men and six women.
Jurors were read instructions and opening statements were made.
Witnesses will be called on Tuesday, March 4, and the trial is expected to last through the week.

What they're saying After the jurors were fully assembled at the Milwaukee County Courthouse, the verdict was reached within an hour. The jury of nine women and three men found Anderson guilty of first-degree intentional homicide, mutilating a corpse, hiding a corpse and arson of property other than a building. "We had a big decision to make today, and there was a lot of momentum leading up to this." Because it was such a high-profile case, the juror said she was not comfortable going on camera. "The decision was easy, especially after that mic drop yesterday seeing those pictures," she said in reference to key evidence presented on Thursday. That evidence included graphic photos, which the state said showed Robinson partially undressed and face down on what looked like Anderson's couch. "That's what I went home thinking about last night. Hillsborough County deputies make arrests in shooting that injured teen
The Brief Deputies with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office have made arrests in connection with a shooting that injured a teenager on Wednesday. Detectives said they found evidence connected to the shooting inside a bedroom belonging to a 17-year-old and an 18-year-old. A 38-year-old man was also arrested for driving with a suspended license when deputies said they found him driving the vehicle linked to the suspected shooter. PROGRESS VILLAGE, Fla. - Two teenage felons have been arrested in connection with a shooting that injured a teenager on Wednesday. The backstory According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, deputies went to the area of South 81st Street and Fir Drive shortly before 12:40 p.m. after receiving multiple 911 calls regarding a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies found a teenager suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. READ: Driver on Dale Mabry Highway claimed to have bomb in car, used drugs in front of officers: TPD Detectives said they identified the suspected shooter's vehicle and found it in Riverview. When they pulled the vehicle over, deputies said the driver, Antonio House, 38, was taken into custody for driving on a suspended license. According to HCSO, a Glock .40 caliber handgun recovered from inside the home was ballistically matched to the casings recovered at the scene of the shooting. The HCSO Firearms Laboratory conducted the analysis and confirmed the connection between the gun and the crime scene. Both were taken into custody. The 17-year-old has been charged with felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition and resisting an officer without violence. House was charged with attempted second-degree murder, aggravated battery great bodily harm or deadly weapon firearm, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition and resisting an officer without violence. What they're saying "We will not allow our neighborhoods to become places of violence," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "This kind of behavior has no place in our community. We remain committed to protecting our residents and ensuring that violent offenders are held fully accountable."
