Iran fires waves of missiles at Israel

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Iran targeted Israel overnight and into early Saturday morning with salvos of missiles in retaliation for attacks on its nuclear facilities and top military brass.
The Israeli military reported multiple waves of attacks. At least two people were killed and dozens injured, according to Israeli media.
Rescuers in the Gush Dan area, on the Mediterranean coast, said 34 people had been wounded, including a woman who later died of her injuries, AFP reported.
Israel also continued its operation against Iran, targeting military sites, while countering Iranian missiles across the country overnight.
The 'Air Force continues to attack targets to eliminate a threat in Iranian territory,' said the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF).
Iranian state television said Iranian forces shot down Israeli reconnaissance drones in the northwest of the country.
The military escalation began on Friday when Israel carried out an unprecedented attack on Iran's nuclear facilities and senior military commanders. Several of Iran's top military men were killed. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the operation aimed to 'roll back the Iranian threat to Israel's very existence' and warned it could last for days.
The attack has drawn condemnation from regional countries, while many Western nations have voiced concern over the escalating tensions and the risk of a wider conflict.
After the back-and-forth strikes, United Nations chief Antonio Guterres called for the two nations to cease fire. "Enough escalation. Time to stop. Peace and diplomacy must prevail," he wrote on X early Saturday morning.

Renewed protests erupt in Baghdad over Israeli strikes on Iran

Shafaq News/ Fresh demonstrations have erupted in the Iraqi capital as supporters of pro-Iranian armed factions denounce Israel's Rising Lion military operation targeting Iranian territory. According to a security source, the protests broke out near the Suspension Bridge in central Baghdad, with demonstrators condemning the Israeli airstrikes on Iran and expressing anger over the alleged use of Iraqi airspace during the operation. The protests follow yesterday's rally, in which dozens of supporters of Iraqi armed factions gathered in central Baghdad to denounce Israel's Operation Rising Lion, which targeted Iran's nuclear facilities and military infrastructure. Factions such as Kataib Hezbollah, Asaib Ahl al-Haq, and Harakat al-Nujaba have previously accused the United States of enabling the Israeli campaign by allowing Israeli aircraft to pass through Iraqi skies. Several of these groups have called on Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani to take a firmer stance on protecting Iraqi sovereignty and to expel US forces from the country.

Diplomacy halted: US-Iran talks in Muscat called off

Shafaq News/ The upcoming round of indirect talks between Iran and the United States, scheduled for tomorrow in Muscat, has been canceled, Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi announced on Saturday. Albusaidi confirmed the decision on X, emphasizing that 'diplomacy and dialogue remain the only pathway to lasting peace.' The Iran US talks scheduled to be held in Muscat this Sunday will not now take place. But diplomacy and dialogue remain the only pathway to lasting peace. — Badr Albusaidi - بدر البوسعيدي (@badralbusaidi) June 14, 2025 The talks were expected to be the sixth round of negotiations focused on Iran's nuclear program and regional de-escalation. However, tensions surged after Israel's Operation Rising Lion and Iran's large-scale retaliation under True Promise 3. Earlier today, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi condemned the Israeli attacks on nuclear and military sites as a US-supported offensive, arguing that negotiations under such conditions were 'unjustifiable.'

Houthis vow deeper strikes into Israel in retaliation for regional attacks

Shafaq News/ Yemen plans to escalate its military campaign in response to Israeli operations across the region, a senior figure aligned with the Houthis (Ansarallah) revealed on Saturday. Adel Rajeh, a member of the Justice and Development Party's Central Committee, told Shafaq News that Yemen remains the 'most active front supporting Gaza,' frequently launching missiles and drones toward Israeli targets. 'More advanced weapons will soon strike deeper inside Israeli territory in retaliation for attacks on Gaza, Iran, Lebanon, and Syria,' Rajeh warned. He said that Sanaa has partially imposed an aerial and naval blockade on Israel, complicating its defense strategy, adding that Israeli warships targeted Yemeni ports to disrupt Houthi drone operations. Rajeh acknowledged a 'temporary lull' from other Iran-aligned factions such as Hezbollah and Iraqi factions but asserted they remain active and will soon take more visible action. 'Yemen will play a pivotal role in delivering precise and impactful strikes against the Zionist entity [Israel] using advanced systems,' he declared, positioning the country as a key force in the regional conflict with Israel.
