Dave Allen showed true colours with gesture after brutal Johnny Fisher KO
Johnny Fisher suffered a brutal knockout in the fifth round of his bout against Dave Allen, who was full of respect for his friend after his victory as he stopped himself from celebrating in the ring
Dave Allen showed his respect for friend Johnny Fisher after his stunning knockout win on Saturday night as he told his corner not to celebrate his victory. Allen secured his win in the fifth round of the contest, dubbed 'The Inquest', which was staged at the Copperbox.
Fisher was downed twice in the fifth, the first after Allen landed two overhand rights before climbing to his feet. But the towel was thrown in after Fisher was rocked by a superb combination that ended in a left hook to the head, flooring him once again.
Allen immediately lifted his arms aloft before stopping himself and pleading with his team not to celebrate the victory out of respect to Allen.
'The White Rhino' then spoke with the referee briefly to insist he would not celebrate before calmly going over to his corner again.
Allen handed Fisher his first career defeat in their rematch after his rival narrowly won the first bout on points - despite many feeling it should have gone the other way.
The pair embraced immediately after the contest was over and they were also pictured together in the dressing room later on in the evening - and Allen has insisted he has nothing but respect for Fisher.
"The first fight did me the world of good," Allen said. "I put a bit of weight on for the body shots. I knew it would pay dividends, took the risk and got [the title]. I'm the fattest, hardest man you'll ever see. This means everything to me. I've been written off so many times.
"You know what it means? The belt, everything, my kids. I'm gonna have an en suite, they'll have their own bathroom between them. At this level, I'm a handful. He overexaggerated the movement, which worked against him.
"I've got experience, I know the game inside-out. I'm him, but with 30 more fights basically. I've said all along he's my friend. He's a very good friend of mine."
When asked about the prospect of a third fight, he added: "I wouldn't allow it to happen, because it's not in his best interests."
Fisher, meanwhile, was gracious in defeat as he vowed to come back stronger after suffering his first defeat. He said on social media: "Last night I was defeated for the first time. We have come a long way from when I begun my journey, but it's clear there is much more to do.
"I took on the rematch when I had other options, but taking another option would not have been the moral thing to do when the first fight was so close.
"The road is long, but I'm back on my feet, and getting up and going again is all that a man can do in this life. Thank you everyone for making my career so far a special one, roll on the next challenge."

Article continues below 'Andy will have other clubs after him, I think, because he did well for us.' Fisher currently has one year left on his current deal at Swansea, and his future remains slightly uncertain, particularly given that Lawrence Vigouroux is likely to remain first choice under Alan Sheehan next term. Milan keen on Modric Italian giants AC Milan are reportedly keen on signing Luka Modric this summer. The 39-year-old has already confirmed he's set to leave Real Madrid after the upcoming Club World Cup, bringing the curtain down on a trophy-laden 13-year spell at the club. Speculation over his next move has been rumbling away ever since, with reports elsewhere suggesting a possible move to MLS to join Lionel Messi and David Beckham at Inter Miami. Saudi Arabia has also been touted as a possibility, but according to The Athletic, a move to Serie A could yet be on the cards. It's claimed Milan are 'exploring a deal' for the 2018 Ballon d'Or winner, who is seemingly yet to decide on this next move as a player. An appearance for Croatia at next year's World Cup has already been cited as a target the veteran midfielder may now be working towards, while his recent investment in Swansea City has suggested he is keen on staying in the game once he does eventually hang up his boots. The possibility of pulling on a Swans shirt before he decides to retire appears slim, although it's understood he has already had an impact behind the scenes at the club. For example, sources claim he has already spoken to potential new recruits in a bid to help convince them to join Alan Sheehan's squad. According to Sky Sports, Rangers' new sporting director Kevin Thelwell, CEO Patrick Stewart and the club's new US owners are set to opt for the ex-Southampton boss, who enjoyed a brief loan spell at the club as a player back in 2018. The Scottish giants have spent the last few months searching for a successor Philippe Clement, who was sacked in February, with former captain Barry Ferguson previously taking interim charge. Former boss Steven Gerrard and ex-Real Madrid assistant Davide Ancelotti were both among the other names believed to be in the frame. However, it seems Martin is now set to make the move to Ibrox, having been out of work since leaving St Mary's in December. Bills QB Josh Allen and actor Hailee Steinfeld marry in Southern California
Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen and actor Hailee Steinfeld tied the knot on Saturday, according to multiple media reports. Pictures emerged from the power couple's wedding that took place in Southern California, where both Allen and Steinfeld live. Photos obtained by 'People' magazine show Steinfeld, in a white strapless gown, walking down the aisle as well as the couple sharing a kiss. The timing and location of the wedding were closely guarded secrets, though Bills left tackle Dion Dawkins let the cat out of the bag in March by revealing the date as May 31. He later backtracked, saying he didn't know anything. Despite the pending wedding, Allen was present for the start of the Bills voluntary series of spring practices, which opened on Tuesday. The Bills return to practice on Monday, though Allen isn't scheduled to address the media until the Bills open their mandatory sessions on June 10. Allen, who turned 29 last week, and the 28-year-old Steinfeld were engaged during the Bills bye week in November, when the quarterback proposed on a California cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The two were first linked in the spring of 2023, when they were photographed dining together in New York City. Steinfeld has since begun attending Bills home games and the couple was inseparable at the NFL Awards ceremony in February, when Allen credited Steinfeld upon accepting the league's MVP honor. Allen followed suit in April in being spotted with Steinfeld arriving for an after-party following premier of the movie 'Sinners,' which stars Steinfeld. Steinfeld began her acting career at the age of 10, and earned an Oscar nomination for best supporting actress for her role as Mattie Ross in the Coen brothers' 2010 remake of 'True Grit.' Allen is entering his eighth NFL season. In March, he signed a contract extension worth $330 million.
