Weather agency warns of heavy rain in Kyushu, west and east Japan through June 11
FUKUOKA -- Heavy rain is expected mainly in southwest Japan's Kyushu region and across western and eastern Japan through June 11.
Due to warm, moist air flowing toward a seasonal front, rain has been falling intermittently in Kyushu, and shortly after 7 p.m. on June 9, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) announced that a linear precipitation zone had formed in Kagoshima Prefecture.
The seasonal rain front is expected to move northward and remain stationary over western and eastern Japan through June 11. There is a possibility of extremely heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms, particularly in Kyushu.
Predicted 24-hour rainfall totals through 6 p.m. on June 10 are up to 200 millimeters in northern Kyushu, 180 mm in southern Kyushu and west Japan's Kinki region, and 100 mm in the Chugoku region in the west. For the 24-hour period ending at 6 p.m. on June 11, the expected rainfall is up to 120 mm in southern Kyushu and 100 mm in northern Kyushu.
Heavy rain may continue in western Japan later in the week and beyond, and the JMA is urging people to check the latest information.

The agency is advising people in northern Kyushu to be careful of landslides and flooding in low-lying areas and rivers. Meanwhile, the seasonal rain front and humid air has also brought precipitation to the Kanto-Koshin and Hokuriku regions. The agency announced on Tuesday that the rainy season appears to have arrived in these regions, as rainy and cloudy conditions are expected to continue over the next seven days.
