Nationals-Rockies game postponed by weather, to be made up in Sunday doubleheader
DENVER (AP) — The game between the Colorado Rockies and Washington Nationals scheduled for Friday night was postponed because of inclement weather.
The teams will play a split doubleheader on Sunday with the first game starting in the afternoon and the second in the evening.
Colorado fired hitting coach Hensley Meulens and replaced him with former manager Clint Hurdle on Thursday, hoping to turn around an offensively challenged team that has started 3-15.
Hurdle managed the Rockies from 2002-09, a tenure highlighted by a trip to the World Series in 2007. The 67-year-old Hurdle has been a special assistant to Rockies general manager Bill Schmidt since December 2021.

Indiana coach Stephanie White stopped short Monday of saying Clark had been cleared for basketball activities, saying the club was ready for the reigning Rookie of the Year to start 'ramping back up.' Advertisement The Fever initially said Clark would miss at least two weeks, and it has been 16 days since Clark was injured in a 90-88 loss to the Liberty. She finished the game, saying later adrenaline likely allowed her to play with the strain. Clark told reporters last week she was targeting a Tuesday return, but said she wouldn't rush it. White reiterated the patience part Monday. The rematch with the Liberty isn't until Saturday at home, which should give Clark some decent practice time. 'We're going to be smart, and we're going to be cautious and we're going to play the long game and work her back in very intentionally,' White said. Clark is averaging 19 points, 9.3 assists and six rebounds in four games this season. This is the first time in her college or pro career that she's missed games. She averaged 19.2 points and a WNBA-leading 8.4 assists as a rookie. The Fever are also without guard Sophie Cunningham, who has been limited to four games by ankle injury. Detroit Tigers are No. 1 in most MLB power rankings
More than one-third of the way into the MLB season, the Detroit Tigers have the best record in baseball at 43-24. They also solidified their status as a top-tier contender after taking two of three games against the National League Central-leading Chicago Cubs over the past weekend. The Tigers also sold out all three of their home games against the Cubs, the first time this season they have sold out every game of a home series. Advertisement Spirits are high for Tigers fans, and now the national media is starting to recognize Detroit as MLB's premier team. This week's power ranking roundup shows a clean sweep of the Tigers in the top position—with the exception of one outlet (we'll get to them in a second). Here is a roundup of power rankings from MLB analysts and where they place the Tigers: USA TODAY listed the Tigers as the No. 2 team in baseball in last week's power rankings, behind only the Los Angeles Dodgers. Top NHL draft prospects have breakfast with Marchand, meet McDavid at the Stanley Cup Final
SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) — Visiting the Stanley Cup Final weeks before hearing their names called early in the NHL draft, top prospects Matthew Schaefer, Michael Misa, James Hagens and Jake O'Brien got a surprise at the Panthers' practice facility on Monday. Brad Marchand pulled up a chair and joined them for breakfast. The 37-year-old veteran shared some laughs and chatted with them hours before he and the Florida Panthers face the Edmonton Oilers in Game 3. 'You think you're just going to say hi, and then you're sitting at a table with Marchand and he's talking to you,' Schaefer said. 'We were talking about the draft and the (scouting) combine, and he was like, 'I didn't get to go there.' And he's laughing, and I'm like, 'Well, look where you are now: You're in the Stanley Cup Final.'' Schaefer, Misa, Hagens and O'Brien also met Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl and took in the Oilers' morning skate. Schaefer first met McDavid in January when the three-time MVP returned to Erie, where his No. 97 was retired by the Otters of the Ontario Hockey League. This interaction — in the arena where McDavid was drafted first a decade ago — went a little smoother. 'I didn't think I was going to have to talk at his jersey retirement, and then I ended up talking to him,' Schaefer recalled. 'I ran out of things to say, and I ended up looking at McDavid and go, 'I'm proud of you.' Nobody would say that.' Schaefer is NHL Central Registry's top-ranked prospect, though there is still considerable debate as to whom among Schaefer, Misa and Hagens the New York Islanders will select with the first pick after winning the draft lottery . Hagens grew up on Long Island cheering for them and went to games at Nassau Coliseum. Recently, he saw a bumper sticker that read, 'Bring Hagens home,' but he's also a realist about the possibility of his hometown team not selecting him. 'I just want to be (with) a team that wants me the most — I want to play for any of these teams,' Hagens said. 'It's just a competitive nature that you want to be the first person off the board. It's exciting, so I can't wait.' RNH a game-time call Edmonton's longest-tenured player, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, missed practice Sunday, skated some on Monday and is considered a game-time decision, coach Kris Knoblauch said. It is not clear what is ailing Nugent-Hopkins, though he is expected to take part in pregame warmups. Jeff Skinner, who played an NHL-record 1,078 regular-season games before finally making his playoff debut earlier this spring, is on standby if Nugent-Hopkins cannot go. Skinner has been a healthy scratch for all but two of the Oilers' 18 games this postseason. 'It's just part of being a team,' Skinner said. 'You've got to have guys who are ready to step in when there's an opportunity.' Shot attempts, the sheer volume of quality offense driven by both teams and at the same time, both teams are defending very well. He got a minus on the 4 on 4 with a heck of a shot block, but it's in the back of the net.' Barkov recently won the Selke Trophy as the league's best defensive forward for a third time.
