Host City contract signed for Dubai 2025 Asian Youth Para Games

The countdown to the 5th Asian Youth Para Games has officially begun as the host city contract was signed between Asian Paralympic Committee and Dubai Club for People of Determination, the Local Organising Committee for the Games. His Excellency Majid Al Usaimi, the APC President, and His Excellency Thani Juma Berregad, Dubai Club for People of Determination Chairman, signed the contract on behalf of their respective organisations, at the APC headquarters in Dubai, UAE. To be held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, the 5th Asian Youth Para Games will take place from 7 to 14 December 2025 in Dubai, UAE, featuring 11 sports. This is the second time Dubai will host the Games – it first hosted the Asian Youth Para Games in 2017. During the signing ceremony, Al Usaimi thanked His Highness for his commitment to the continuation of the Asian Youth Para Games, after the original host city Tashkent was unable to go ahead with staging games, originally scheduled for October. The APC President emphasised that this stance demonstrates the UAE and Dubai's commitment to supporting the People of Determination across all sectors. Al Usaimi also thanked the Dubai Club for People of Determination's initiative to host this important Asian event, noting that the club has taken numerous stances under difficult circumstances, demonstrating its full commitment to the development of the international Paralympic movement. He pointed out that the responsibility for continuing the Youth Games in the world's largest continent is one of the major objectives of the Asian Paralympic Movement. 'Our young athletes are among the most important investments on the Asian continent and globally. And we, at the Asian Paralympic Committee, seek to ensure the sustainability of our work to provide the best services for people of determination at the highest quality to achieve the organisation's goals.' "In this context, the Asian Paralympic Committee has raised the slogan to develop players from youth to professionals, charting a clear path to achieve this through various competitions throughout the season and training the cadres who work with the players, including classifiers and coaches." 'Committed to delivering an exceptional championship' For his part, Berregad expressed his happiness at the Dubai Club for People of Determination hosting this important Games, indicating that they are up to the challenge of presenting an exceptional championship despite the short duration of the event. "Over the years, the UAE and Dubai have gained a prestigious status by hosting many major and successful regional and international sporting events. They continue to enhance this image, offering the world amazing experiences and leaving an exemplary impact on the Asian stage." "We are committed to delivering an exceptional edition by putting forth our utmost efforts to make the Games the strongest and best," he added.

Midday Break in UAE: Here's what companies need to know

Image credit: WAM/ Website The UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has announced the implementation of the Midday Break, which prohibits work under direct sunlight and in open-air spaces between 12:30pm and 3:00pm, from June 15 to September 15, 2025. Read- Now in its 21st consecutive year, the Midday Break reflects the UAE's sustainability-driven approach and commitment to providing a safe working environment. It aligns with international best practices and occupational health and safety standards, protecting workers from injuries and illnesses caused by high summer temperatures, 'The Midday Break has achieved a record compliance rate of over 99 per cent for several years in a row, clearly reflecting the deeply rooted social and humanitarian values within the UAE's business community. It also demonstrates high awareness of the importance of protecting human capital—the most valuable resource in any company—and underscores the people-centred labour practices embraced in the UAE,' Mohsin Ali Al Nassi, Assistant Undersecretary for Inspection & Compliance at MoHRE said. Al Nassi emphasised the ministry's commitment to raising awareness among employers and workers through field visits to worksites and labour accommodations. These efforts help promote occupational health and safety and reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses. 'The Midday Break has become a leading example of successful partnerships between MoHRE, the private sector, and the wider community. Many partners have launched their own initiatives to support workers during the Midday Break,' Dalal Alshehhi, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Labour Protection at MoHRE, added. She continued, 'This initiative reinforces social responsibility and supports the success of our awareness strategies, further embedding humanitarian values into the UAE's work culture, which welcomes over 200 nationalities to live, work, and invest in line with the goals of the 'We the UAE 2031' vision.' Rest areas Alshehhi praised private sector companies that have proactively established fully equipped rest areas to ensure workers' comfort during the Midday Break. These efforts reflect a strong commitment to workers' wellbeing and help boost productivity. She encouraged all private sector entities to implement similar measures, citing their positive impact on both health and efficiency. Under the Midday Break rules, companies must provide essential supplies and arrangements, including shaded areas, cooling equipment such as fans, sufficient drinking water, hydration supplements approved by local authorities, and necessary first-aid supplies at worksites. Exemptions The regulations allow for exemptions where continuous work is required for public interest or technical reasons. These include activities like asphalt laying or concrete pouring that cannot be delayed, as well as urgent repair work affecting public utilities, traffic, or essential services. Work requiring permits from government authorities, due to its impact on public life and mobility, is also exempt. MoHRE monitors company compliance with the Midday Break via its inspection systems throughout the summer period. The ministry also encourages the public to report violations through its call centre (600590000), website, or smart app. Violating companies will be fined Dhs5,000 per worker per breach, with a cap of Dhs50,000 if multiple violations are recorded. MoHRE will intensify awareness campaigns and field inspections—coordinating with both public and private sector partners—to ensure compliance with the Midday Break regulations.

President Sheikh Mohamed orders release of 963 prisoners for Eid Al Adha

President Sheikh Mohamed on Tuesday ordered the release of 963 prisoners across the UAE before the start of Eid Al Adha. He also pledged to pay the inmates' fines, the state news agency Wam reported. Pardons are typically offered throughout the year in keeping with the generous spirit of occasions such as Ramadan and Eid Al Adha. In February, Sheikh Mohamed also ordered the release of 1,295 of prisoners to mark Ramadan. It comes as employees in the public and private sectors are to be granted leave from Thursday, June 5, to Sunday, June 8, with work resuming on Monday, June 9. What is Eid Al Adha? Eid Al Adha – which means 'festival of the sacrifice' – is the latter of the two Eid holidays celebrated across the Arab world, coming after Eid Al Fitr. Eid Al Adha commemorates the Prophet Ibrahim being asked by God in a dream to sacrifice his son, Ismail, as a test of his faith. As with other religious holidays in the Emirates, it is a time for friends and family to gather, often over meals, and reflect on their lives and faith. It is customary for families who have the means to slaughter a goat or sheep and share the meat with relatives and the less privileged.
