Ksubi designer Dan Single reveals he was 'dead for ten minutes' after fall from Paris hotel balcony as he makes shock return to limelight at Australian Fashion Week with racy art installation
Dan Single has returned to the spotlight with a bang after several years living quietly following a horror fall from a balcony that almost took his life.
The Ksubi designer staged an art installation at Australian Fashion Week on Tuesday night to promote his new book, The Diary of a Naughtie Kid.
The 47-year-old, who has rarely discussed his March 2017 accident which happened at an upscale Paris hotel, on Wednesday revealed that he 'died for ten minutes' after the fall, which left him in a coma.
'It made me stop, slow down and think about what I want in my life,' the designer told Confidential.
'I had a chance to start fresh and I have used that second chance to be of service and help to inspire.'
His book, which features photos and ephemera such as love letters, hate mail and newspaper clippings from Dan's reign in the fashion world in the 2000s, he says is a 'a little snapshot in time when it was a magical moment to be alive'.
The book is dedicated to his teenage son, Justice, 18, who he shares with P.E Nation designer Pip Edwards.
'I made this book for my son, Justice, who is way too big now and for the next generation to show them you don't need permission or training to create' Dan said.
'It is not a life story, it is not even close … this captures a brief moment in time, the noughties. A moment in time when everything felt new, like there were no rules.'
The installation launching The Diary of a Naughtie Kid, which was attended by several hundred audience members at Carriageworks in Sydney, featured a heavily tattooed woman sitting upon a tin foil wrapped couch surrounded by images from the tome.
Dan fell 35 metres from the fourth-storey balcony of Hotel Grand D'Amour in Paris in March, 2017.
The accident saw him plunge several storeys, shattering his legs and leaving him in a coma for eight days.
The Daily Telegraph first reported Dan's fall, with a source telling the publication at the time: 'His legs are a complete mess; he won't be walking for a very long time.
'He is not in a good way. It's expected both he and Bambi will have to stay over there for quite a while because he's not able to fly.'
His book, which features photos and ephemera such as love letters, hate mail and newspaper clippings from Dan's reign in the fashion world in the 2000s, he says is a 'a little snapshot in time when it was a magical moment to be alive'
The following month, Dan created a Go Fund Me page, writing that he's 'been given a second lease at life.'
'It all sounds awful but the guy writing this mail has been given a second lease at life and is SO grateful, inspired and excited to be back soon,' he wrote on the page.
'I am also lucky to have my family here by [my] side, wife, mother, brother and at least a visitor a day.'
Dan said at the time that he was hoping to raise $250,000 to help pay for his recovery and any associated costs.
'Help fund the hospital bill, rehab bill, early flights home, being unable to make bread and work over the next [few] months and all the incidentals the family is covering at the moment,' Dan added.
The entrepreneur also clarified that the media reports were correct, and that he shattered 'every bone from my feet to my hips and pelvis.'
'I fell three floors (35 metres) out of my hotel room in Paris, did a summersault and landed on my feet which saved my spine and my brain (a miracle says the doctor, one in 100 million chance).'
Dan added about his recovery: 'I have been in a coma for two weeks, had eight operations and am covered in pins and bolts in my bones.'
'I cannot use my legs for another month or two so will be in a rehab centre in Paris recovering.'
Single was labelled 'pathetic' for asking the public to raise the $250,000 to help cover his medical bills.
An anonymous donor said: 'How come you can fund partying, drinking and overseas trips but not your own recovery?'
'I'll give you $5 with the sole intent of telling you what an idiot everyone thinks you are.'
Single later removed the crowdfunding campaign after it was met with an avalanche of abuse with the former BRW Young Rich-lister labelled 'disgusting' by commenters.
Single announced his his split with then-wife Bambi Northwood-Blyth in March 2018, exactly twelve months after his Paris balcony fall.
Bambi tied the knot with Dan in Byron Bay in January 2014, with Bambi becoming a step-mother to Dan's son Justice, 10, at the age of 22.

Lady Amelia Windsor turned heads as she made a stylish arrival alongside Mia Regan and Clara Amfo at the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition party in London on Wednesday. The 29-year-old royal put on a leggy display in a neon green mini dress, teamed with black loafers. Mia looked incredible in a revealing sheer black skirt and a feathered top, teamed with chic pointed heels. The model's brunette tresses were scraped back in a neat updo, as she oozed confidence while posing for sizzling snaps. Clara showed off her figure in a skin-tight brown midi dress, teamed with quirky orange fringe heels. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Elsewhere, DJ Fat Tony and his new husband Stavros Agapiou made their first public appearance since their lavish London wedding. Helena Bonham Carter showcased her quirky sense of style in a black floral embroidered mesh dress. James Norton, Jessie Ware, and Emma Weymouth were also in attendance at the glamorous event. Held every year since 1769, the RA's Summer Exhibition celebrates contemporary art spanning mediums including painting, printmaking, film and photography. It is the world's oldest open submission exhibition, meaning anyone can submit their work to be considered for inclusion. It comes after Lady Amelia shocked fans after posting risqué photos on social media in just a T-shirt and knickers. The royal shared a trio of intimate snaps of herself modelling an undergarment from the brand POM Peace Of Mind. The granddaughter of Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, who is a first cousin of the late Queen Elizabeth, was pictured sporting a dark grey top from Ganni. Trinny Woodall looked elegant in a white figure-hugging gown and heeled boots But the T-shirt was the only piece of clothing thing that Amelia was wearing, as she chose to almost bare it all on her Instagram account. She opted to pose barefoot seemingly in her stylish home as she sat down on a wooden chair in a black pair of underwear - costing £18.95 - from the brand with her legs crossed, as she read a book about art. Amelia used all of her professional model training she learnt from Storm Management, an agency which once represented Kate Moss, to smize at the camera gaze while lying on her vibrant red sofa. Another image also showed Amelia sitting on her white painted wooden flooring while applying her makeup in a full length mirror. She wore her dark blonde bob down in a straightened blow-dry and her makeup was natural and dewy. Amelia said that she wears POM's organic cotton period underwear every month and has grown to befriend the owner of the company. She captioned her post: ' I met Sabrina last summer and we have become friends whilst bonding over similar interests including the topic of female health and wellbeing. 'Sabrina set up @pom_peaceofmind_ - a period underwear company that I now wear every month. They are made from organic cotton and provide secure comfort when you need it most.' Another also showed Amelia sitting on her white painted wooden flooring while applying her makeup in a full length mirror Amelia - who likes to be called 'Mel' by her close family and friends - is known for being passionate about the environment, like King Charles. After posting the image to her almost 100,000 followers, Amelia was met with many compliments from friends and fans who called her 'beautiful' and 'the cutest'. However, this isn't the first time that Amelia has stripped down to her underwear. In February 2024, she was filmed walking down a doorstep modelling bright red Stripe and Stare's knickers. She a video of herself stepping out of a front door wearing nothing but a black t-shirt, red underwear, scarf and trainers. The video opens with Amelia stepping out of a front door and shutting it behind her. She then tosses her scarf over her shoulder before walking down the steps to the camera. In 2021, she also posed for Polaroid-style snaps while wearing a sustainable baby pink bra made from seaweed and wood pulp for Alexander Clementine. Amelia is the youngest child of George Windsor, Earl of St Andrews, and Sylvana Tomaselli. Educated at the exclusive St. Mary's School Ascot, where boarders pay more than £45,000 a year, she went on to study Italian and French at the University of Edinburgh. Once named the most beautiful royal by Tatler magazine, Amelia has been signed with Storm Management since 2016 and modelled for brands including Chanel and Dolce & Gabbana. Lady Amelia regularly shares glimpses of her glamorous life with her followers on social media.

MAFS star reveals she was cruelly mum-shamed at son's sports day after giving him an ‘unhealthy' lunch
A MARRIED At First Sight star has revealed she was cruelly mum-shamed at her son's school after she opted to give him an unhealthy lunch. MAFS AU bride Cyrell Paule took to her Instagram stories to reveal the shock in-person encounter which happened during her child's sports day. 4 4 The reality TV star revealed she had been sick all week and had been struggling to make a packed lunch for her child to take with him to school. Her illness even left her debating whether to bother to go and watch her son during his sports day at all after being left feeling so run down. As a result, she told how when she did manage to make it along to his school, she decided to buy him a McDonald's for his lunch after being unable to make him anything healthier. But she was soon bashed by another mum who shamed her for feeding her son fast-food during a sports day. On Instagram, Cyrell wrote: "Today I was mummu shamed... at least that's how it felt." She then spoke to the camera, in which she said: "By the time it was lunch time, I thought, do you know what, there is a Maccas [McDonald's] down the road. "I was so sick and so yeah, I won't lie, I didn't really pack him a suitable lunch for a sports carnival. "He didn't have the carrots or a cut-up cucumber. "One kid close-by was saying like, 'ah yum I love nuggets, I had McDonald's the other day,' but the mum was like, 'you aren't getting McDonald's today, you are at a sports carnival, you are not supposed to be eating that'. "Dude, yes I admit it is a lazy lunch and I could probably have done better but you know what, I don't need you to tell me I am doing a s*** job." MAFS star Sacha shows off new nose after surgery She then said: "So to all the mums out there who feel like what your doing isn't enough, you do you. "Stop judging each others parenting, no one knows your child or your situation. "Do what makes your family happy." The former healthcare assistant shot to fame on the 6th season of the Aussie show that was filmed back in 2018. She became a mother to her baby boy Boston on February 9 2020. His father is Love Island Australia star Eden who she met at a party in March 2019. On MAFS, she was married to Nic Jovanović. After an explosive relationship, the pair called it quits before filming wrapped after a series of arguments. Things then got messy back in March 2019 when Cyrell said on Instagram that dating Nic was a 'huge' mistake. Commenting on Nic's height, the fan wrote: 'He looks huge', to which Cyrell replied: 'Yeah he is huge... a huge mistake.' She also accused her ex of flirting with MAFS co-star Jessika Power throughout filming, but he denied this. 4 4
