Two people from Ayr and one person from Paris fined a combined $10K for illegal hunting

Three people are facing hefty fines for illegal hunting.
In a news release, the provincial government said two people from Ayr and one person from Paris pleaded guilty to hunting migratory birds within 400 metres of where bait had been deposited. One of the Ayr residents also pleaded guilty to killing more than the daily bag limit of ducks.
In total, the trio was fined $10,500 and they are now prohibited from applying for a migratory game bird hunting permit for one year.
The penalties stem from an investigation on Sept. 19, 2024. Conservation officers were conducting inspections in the Wrigley Road area in the Region of Waterloo. The officers said they found submerged oats in a pond.
When officers went back to the area on Sept. 28, they found the three people at a nearby pond. Investigators said they were hunting ducks where the oats had been submerged, and one person had harvested more ducks than allowed by his daily bag limit. The ducks were seized and forfeited.

Man charged after stabbing store security guard: Winnipeg police

The Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) said the man went into a store on St. Mary's Road early Friday afternoon and took two hats without paying. A store security guard tried to stop him, but police said the man stabbed the guard with a knife and ran off. Officers arrested the suspect shortly after near the scene. Police noted the security guard was wearing a protective vest and wasn't injured during the incident. The suspect is charged with robbery and weapons-related offences. He remains in custody.

Guelph Police Service looking for suspect in gunpoint bank robbery

Police were called to a bank near Gordon Street and Clair Road on June 7 around 8:40 a.m. They were told a man with a handgun walked into the bank and stole cash. A gun was left behind when the suspect fled. No one was injured. The suspect is described as a 6'0' Black man in his mid to late 20s with dark skin. He was wearing a white or grey sweater, black pants, a pink silk mask and a black hat. Anyone with more information or video of the incident is asked to contact police.
