Bangladesh says attacks on Tagore's property an 'altercation between two visitors and caretaker'
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh stated that the attacks on

were a result of altercation between two visitors and the caretaker of the property.
The statement added that two arrests have been made pertaining to the incident.
"Attention of the Government of Bangladesh has been drawn to a reported incident in the government-owned property related to the revered Bengali Nobel laureate, poet
Rabindranath Tagore
, in the district of
Sirajganj
in Bangladesh. The incident centered around an altercation between two visitors and the Caretaker of the property a few days back which is managed by the Department of Archaeology of the Government," as per the statement.
"Following the incident, a criminal case had already been filed with the local Police on 10th June. Two persons had also been arrested in this connection. A local inquiry board has also been formed by the District administration. Appropriate legal actions are being taken by the local administration," the statement read.
The statement further said that in Bangladesh, there is no scope for any divisive attempt to fuel controversy on the attacks' incident.

Two investigation committees were formed to investigate the incident, the
Bangladesh Cultural Ministry
said in a statement on Friday.
"On June 8, a fight and assault occurred between an employee on duty at
Shahjadpur
Rabindra Kacharibari and a visitor due to a misunderstanding and argument over a parking ticket", it said.
"Rabindra Kachari Bari, Shahjadpur, Sirajgonj is a protected monument by the Bangladesh government. Every year, thousands of visitors from home and abroad come to visit the place associated with the poet's memory", the statement said.

The BJP on Saturday took out protest rallies across Tripura condemning the recent vandalism at Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore's ancestral home in Bangladesh. Apart from the state capital, Agartala, protest rallies were organised at Kailasahar in Unakoti district, Raghna international border area in North Tripura district, Sonamura in Sepahijala district, and Belonia in South Tripura district. Protesters were seen trying to breach barricades at some places; however, there was no report of any kind of clash anywhere. 'We all know that the ancestral residence of Rabindranath Tagore at Sirajganj district in Bangladesh was vandalised on June 11. We strongly protested against it and condemned it… We never say that Rabindranath Tagore was a Hindu poet; he was Biswakabi. We assembled at Raghna to protest against the vandalism,' said Bagbasa BJP MLA Jadab Lal Nath. A senior police officer in Unakoti said adequate security was deployed at the rally in the district to maintain law and order. At the protest rally in Sonamura, former Union Minister Pratima Bhowmik criticised Muhammad Yunus, the head of Bangladesh's interim government. Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Tinku Roy, who joined the protest rally in Belonia, said, 'This kind of incident (vandalism) will not be tolerated by the Government of India and the Tripura government. As part of the statewide protests, we hit the streets in Belonia.' Tripura BJP protests against attack on Tagore's house in B'desh
Agartala: Tripura Pradesh BJP on Saturday staged state-wide protests near the Bangladesh border locations, condemning the recent attack and vandalism of the ancestral home of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore in the neighbouring country. Leading a protest rally in Agartala and near the Akhaura Integrated Check Post, BJP general secretary and MLA Bhagaban Das said, "A barbaric incident in Bangladesh has shocked not only Tripura but the entire nation." The ancestral home of Tagore has been vandalised. "This is a direct attack on our shared cultural heritage. There must be a limit to such destructive jealousy. Even a towering cultural icon like Tagore has not been spared. These groups of hyenas have committed an unforgivable act," Das said. Agartala (Tripura) [India], June 14 (ANI): The Sadar Urban Committee of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organised a protest rally on Saturday in Agartala, marching from Fire Service Choumuhani to Border Golchakkar. The party leaders condemned recent incidents of violence and targeting of minority communities in Bangladesh. The rally saw the presence of several prominent BJP leaders, including Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor Dipak Majumder, senior party leader and MLA Bhagaban Das, and other local party members. The protest was sparked by reports of repeated attacks on minorities in Bangladesh and, more recently, an alleged attack on the ancestral home of Rabindranath Tagore--an act the BJP described as a 'deep emotional blow' to the people of India. Speaking at the rally, BJP leaders expressed outrage over what they called the 'barbaric acts' being carried out under the interim government in Bangladesh, allegedly formed with the support of the interim government chief, Md. Yunus. 'This house is not just a structure--it's a symbol of cultural heritage and pride for all Bengalis,' said one of the speakers. Minorities in Bangladesh are repeatedly subjected to brutal attacks, and we, the BJP of Tripura, have consistently protested against this. However, this time, the attackers have targeted something much more significant--Rabindranath Tagore's ancestral home in Bangladesh, a place of pride for our country and the heart of every Bengali.' 'This house is not just a building for us; it is a matter of deep emotional connection. The attackers didn't just target the house itself--they hurt us, the Indian people. That is why we are protesting today. This movement was originally scheduled for the 12th, but due to another unfortunate incident, the plane crash in Ahmedabad, we are holding this protest today instead,' he added. He vowed to continue their protest: 'In the coming days, there will be protests in every locality, and on the 16th, we will hold a larger movement in front of the Bangladesh Visa Office in Agartala.'
