Moon Beverages, one of the leading bottlers of Coca-Cola in India and part of MMG Group, is considering an Initial Public Offering ( IPO ) to accelerate growth and expansion in the country's fast-growing soft drinks market, said a top company official. MMG Group expects Moon Beverages, a key franchise partner of Coca-Cola, to double its revenue in the next three to four years, helped by growth coming from new plants, expansion of capacity and acquisition of new markets, said its Vice Chairman Anant Agarwal.Moon Beverages has invested Rs 4,000 crore so far and plans to invest further for its two upcoming plants at Guwahati, Assam and Rourkela in Odisha, which will add up to 7,000 bpm (bottlings per minute) capacity.When asked as to whether the company plans to go for an IPO, Agarwal told PTI: "This is in our plan. However, we cannot divulge many details as of now.""We are very bullish on growth for Moon Beverages and the IPO plan sits very well with that ambition," he added.Though Agarwal did not share the timeline, he said the group is considering the option and is in consultation with various stakeholders.Currently, Moon Beverages is the third largest bottler of the Coca-Cola company in India after SLMG and Kandhari Global. It has an installed capacity of 10,000 bpm (bottlings per minute)."We (Moon Beverages) have emerged as a leading bottler and strategic partner for Coca-Cola. With acquisitions and investments in new bottling units, we have seen multi-fold growth over the past 2-3 years," he added.Agarwal expects the group's bottling business , Moon Beverages, should deliver a 20 per cent year-on-year growth for the next five years. We are extremely confident about the numbers going."He did not share the revenue numbers, but said he expects to double the topline in the next 3 to 4 years with this rate of growth.About investments, he said the group is investing substantially to expand its operations and topline."In the last four years, we have invested more than Rs 4,000 crore into this business, which would be acquisitions, putting up plants, adding lines, etc. So it is a very heavy capex business. But yes, to double the business in three to four years, we need this constant investment, and we are not shying away," said Agarwal.Agarwal, who strongly believes in the Indian growth story, said per capita consumption of soft drinks is still very low, which is almost one-tenth of some of the developed markets.The company currently operates five bottling plants and has plans to add two more, coming at Jharkhand and Odisha in the next couple of years, which will scale up its bottling capacity substantially.Moon Beverages has recently acquired bottling operations in Jharkhand after Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages (HCCB), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Coca-Cola Company, has divested its bottling operations."We operate in the regions of north and east. We have a presence in Delhi NCR and western UP, in east India. In east we have presence in West Bengal, Jharkhand and Seven Sisters of the north-east," he said, adding, "So we acquired Western UP in year 2020, and the last couple of years, we acquired the entire West Bengal, north-eastern region and Jharkhand."Atlanta-based beverage major Coca-Cola is divesting its bottling assets globally as per its asset-light strategy.Asked whether Moon Beverages would go for much more opportunity for Coca-Cola in other parts of the country or even in the overseas markets, Agarwal said: "Yes absolutely. We are open to acquisitions" as it has grown into this business in more than inorganic way."We will be happy to expand our portfolio and the region as much as possible. So that will be done with Coca Cola... and we are open to that," said Agarwal, adding, "We would be happy to go global. I think we have no cons of going global. So when the opportunity is there, we would be more than happy to participate."Moon Beverages is part of the Agarwal family-owned MMG group, which has interests in sectors ranging from oil & gas to hospitality and real estate, besides in bottling operations.

HC asks MMRDA to deposit Rs 1,169 crore arbitral award in dispute with Reliance Infra
The Bombay High Court on Tuesday directed the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) to deposit the arbitration award of Rs 1,169 crore with the court registry in connection with its dispute with the Mumbai Metro One Pvt Ltd ( MMOPL ), a subsidiary of Anil Ambani's Reliance Infrastructure . The MMRDA, a Maharashtra government agency, has moved the HC challenging two orders -- of August 2023 and February 2024 -- passed by a three-member tribunal in arbitration between MMOPL and MMRDA for various disputes including the cost of the metro project. The court further said no case was made out for an unconditional stay. MMOPL, a joint venture of Reliance Infrastructure and MMRDA, operates Mumbai's first metro line on Versova -Andheri-Ghatkopar corridor. While Reliance Infrastructure holds 74 per cent stake, the rest is with MMRDA. The disputes between the two parties relate to the development, design, engineering, financing, procurement, construction, operation and maintenance of metro rail under a 2007 agreement. The metro rail project started with a delay of over two years. MMOPL claimed that the project costs increased from Rs 2,356 crore to Rs 4,321 crores, which the MMRDA contested. PTI

A disruption in rare earth magnet supplies lasting beyond a month can impact production of passenger vehicles, including electric models, weighing on the domestic automobile industry's growth momentum, a report on Tuesday said. Rare earth magnets, low in cost but critical in function, could emerge as a key supply-side risk for India's automotive sector if China's export restrictions and delays in shipment clearances persist, Crisil Ratings said in a statement. "The supply squeeze comes just as the auto sector is preparing for aggressive EV rollouts. Over a dozen new electric models are planned for launch, most built on PMSM platforms," Crisil Ratings Senior Director Anuj Sethi said. While most automakers currently have 4-6 weeks of inventory, prolonged delays could start affecting vehicle production, with EV models facing deferrals or rescheduling from July 2025, he added. A broader impact on two-wheelers and ICE PVs may follow if the supply bottlenecks persist for an extended period, Sethi said. "The shortage of rare earth magnets is forcing automakers to reassess supply-chain strategies. Despite contributing less than 5 per cent of a vehicle's cost, these magnets are indispensable for EV motors and electric steering systems," said Crisil Ratings Director Poonam Upadhyay. Automakers are actively engaging with alternative suppliers in countries such as Vietnam, Indonesia, Japan, Australia, and the US, while also optimising existing inventories, she noted. "With applications across EVs and ICE vehicles, a prolonged supply squeeze could disrupt production of PVs and 2Ws, making this low-cost component a potential high-impact bottleneck for the sector," she said. Rare earth magnets are integral to Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSMs) used in EVs for their high torque, energy efficiency and compact size. Hybrids also depend on them for efficient propulsion. In internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, the use of rare earth magnets is largely limited to electric power steering and other motorised systems. In April this year, China, the world's dominant exporter of rare earth magnets, imposed export restrictions on seven rare earth elements and finished magnets, mandating export licences. The revised framework demands detailed end-use disclosures and client declarations, including confirmation that the products will not be used in defence or re-exported to the US. With the clearance process taking at least 45 days, this added scrutiny has significantly delayed approvals. And the growing backlog has further slowed clearances, tightening global supply chains. India, which sourced over 80 per cent of its 540 tonnes magnet imports from China last fiscal, has started to feel the impact. By end-May 2025, nearly 30 import requests from Indian companies were endorsed by the Indian government, but none have yet been approved by the Chinese authorities, and no shipments have arrived. During the pandemic, rare earth magnet supplies remained stable, unlike semiconductors, reinforcing reliance on just-in-time inventory without building strategic buffers. However, while semiconductors have a globally diversified supply base, over 90 per cent of rare earth magnet processing is concentrated in China, with limited short-term alternatives. Recognising the risk, the government and automakers are taking action on two fronts, Crisil said. In the short term, the focus is on building strategic inventories, tapping alternative suppliers and accelerating domestic assembly under Production Linked Incentive schemes. For the long term, reducing import dependency will hinge on fast-tracking rare earth exploration, building local production capacity and investing in recycling infrastructure, Crisil stated.

Maharashtra government hikes liquor taxes to raise ₹14,000 crore in annual revenue
MUMBAI: The Maharashtra state cabinet on Tuesday approved a significant increase in excise duty on liquor, aiming to boost revenue by approximately ₹14,000 crore per year . The state cabinet approved the Excise Department's recommendations after a secretary-level study group reviewed best practices from other states. The group proposed measures to expand liquor production, streamline licensing, and enhance excise duty and tax collection. Key decisions approved by the cabinet Excise duty increases: Indian-Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) up to ₹260 per bulk litre will now be taxed at 4.5× the declared production cost, up from the previous 3×. Country liquor duty has increased from ₹180 to ₹205 per proof litre. New Maharashtra-Made Liquor (MML): A new category of grain-based foreign liquor, to be produced exclusively by Maharashtra distillers. Manufacturers must register their MML brands separately. Revised minimum retail prices for 180 ml bottles: Country liquor: ₹80 MML: ₹148 IMFL: ₹205 Premium foreign liquor: ₹360 Licensing amendments: Sealed foreign liquor shops (FL-2) operating under lease agreements will incur a 15% increase in annual license fees.
