Yahoo17-03-2025

Following a tough battle against the New York Knicks on Saturday, the Golden State Warriors will open a tough back-to-back at home on Monday starting with a contest against the Denver Nuggets. When Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets to San Francisco on Monday, the Warriors could be without a pair of starters, including their All-Star point guard.
Both Steph Curry (lower back strain) and Quinten Post (right ankle soreness) are listed as questionable for Monday's contest against the Nuggets. Brandin Podziemski is also set to miss his fifth consecutive game on Monday due to a bilateral lower back strain.
Steph Curry is questionable vs Nuggets tomorrow night with a lower back strain. He's had a heat pack on it during the last couple games. Warriors face Bucks on Tuesday. Quinten Post also questionable with ankle soreness.

The Nuggets also have multiple key pieces listed as questionable for Saturday. Nikola Jokic (right elbow), Aaron Gordon (right calf, left ankle sprain), Jamal Murray (right ankle sprain) are all listed as questionable for Monday.
Curry is coming off a 28-point performance on Saturday against the Knicks. If he's unable to go, the Warriors will be shorthanded at point guard with Podziemski also sidelined. Steve Kerr could have to get creative in the Warriors backcourt with only Pat Spencer and Yuri Collins as Golden State's only healthy point guards.
Following the Warriors' game on Monday against the Nuggets, Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks come to town on Tuesday for the second leg of a back-to-back at San Francisco's Chase Center.

Barry Bonds will be getting a statue outside the Giants' ballpark, team CEO says

SAN FRANCISCO — Barry Bonds will be getting a statue outside the San Francisco Giants' home stadium where he set baseball's career home run record, the team's CEO said. Giants President and Chief Executive Officer Larry Baer was asked during a radio interview about a statue for Bonds, and he responded that it was 'on the radar.' But Baer didn't have any details of when that would happen. 'Barry is certainly deserving of a statue, and I would say should be next up,' Baer said during an appearance on San Francisco's 95.7 The Game. 'We don't have the exact location and the exact date and the exact timing. ... It's coming. All I can say is it's coming.' Bonds played for San Francisco the last 15 of his 22 big league seasons, hitting 586 of his 762 homers while with the Giants from 1993-2007. He set the single-season MLB record with 73 homers in 2001, and hit his record-breaking 756th homer to pass Hank Aaron in a home game off Washington's Mike Bacsik on Aug. 7, 2007. There currently are five statues outside Oracle Park, those of Hall of Famers Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, Juan Marichal, Gaylord Perry and Orlando Cepeda. The Giants retired Bonds' No. 25 jersey in 2018. Bonds, a seven-time MVP and 14-time All-Star, is not in the Hall of Fame. He failed to reach the 75% threshold required during his 10 years on the Baseball Writers Association of America's Hall of Fame ballot, mostly because of steroids allegations that dogged him during his final years with the Giants. The Contemporary Player Committee also passed on electing Bonds in 2022, though the committee could reconsider Bonds' status.

Mississippi State forward Cameron Matthews leads Houston's undrafted rookie signings

The Rockets didn't have a pick in the 2025 NBA draft, but Mississippi State forward Cameron Matthews is among Houston's undrafted free agent signings. The Rockets didn't have a pick in the 2025 NBA draft after trading both their first- and second-round selections in the blockbuster trade bringing All-Star forward Kevin Durant to Houston. They will be, however, adding some undrafted free agents who will take part in the 2025 NBA Summer League this July. Some of these players could also be candidates for two-way or training-camp contracts in the weeks and months ahead. The first such deal was reached late Thursday with Cameron Matthews, a 6-foot-7 forward from Mississippi State who averaged 7.1 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game last season on 51.4% shooting. 'A two-time SEC All-Defensive Team selection, Matthews will join the Rockets and compete for a two-way spot in training camp,' HoopsHype's Michael Scotto reported late Thursday. Matthews was rated No. 61 on a ranking of the top-75 draft prospects by The Athletic's John Hollinger. With 59 total selections across two rounds, that would seemingly indicate that Matthews was among the best of the undrafted pool. Regarding his playing style, Hollinger writes: Nobody is using a draft pick on a fifth-year senior forward who averaged 9.6 points and shot 24.0 percent on 3-pointers. But watch out for this guy stealing minutes while on a two-way because of his defense against apex wings. There are some Luguentz Dort parallels here: Matthews has brutish strength, lightning fast hands, and can move his feet on the perimeter. He also fouls a lot, but his rate of 7.6 'stocks' (steals and blocks) per 100 possessions is pretty phenomenal. Matthews also showed good feel as a distributor, averaging 7.1 dimes per 100 possessions despite being a very secondary offensive player. About that last part… Matthews shot 20.0% on 3-pointers and 55.4% from the line for his career. All at once now: Yikes. Teams will likely need to stash him in the dunker spot to give him an offensive role; he did shoot 60.0% on two-pointers as a collegian. If he develops his 3-point shot into a one-in-three proposition, he's an instant rotation player, but the odds don't favor it. Matthews was a five-year player at Mississippi State and is now 23 years old. Matthews will get his first chance to make an impression on Houston's coaching staff during a stretch of at least five games at the NBA's 2025 summer league, which will be held from July 10-20 in Las Vegas. Team schedules have yet to be released. Rosters have also yet to be released, with Houston's likely to come in the next few days. It's a safe bet that Matthews won't be the only undrafted rookie on it. More: Rockets guard Reed Sheppard gets debut Nike sneaker release

Florida's Will Richard picked by Golden State Warriors, making three Gators drafted

They often say that the "third is the charm" and even that "three is a magic number", while the Romans had the triumvirate of leaders. For the Florida basketball program, good things came in threes during the 2025 NBA draft as its entire starting backcourt found a new home in the professional ranks during the two-day event. The final former Gator to hear his name called was swingman Will Richard, who was picked by the Golden State Warriors with the No. 56 pick, just barely making it into the 59 selections this week. Most experts had him as an undrafted free agent signing ahead of the draft, but instead, he exceeded expectations to ensure that every Florida alumnus in the draft heard their name called. In fact, the Warriors traded up to the No. 56 selection with the Memphis Grizzlies to ensure that Richard was still available. It was the first time since 2007 that the Orange and Blue saw three or more of its products drafted in the same year — and only the third time ever that it has happened. Five Gators were taken that year, starting with forward/center Al Horford, forward/center Joakim Noah and wing Corey Brewer in the first round, followed by forward Chris Richard and guard Tauren Green in the second round. The 6-foot-4-inch, 206-pounder averaged 13.3 points on 48.7% shooting from the field overall (35.9% from 3-point range), 4.6 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.7 steals per game in 2024-25. During his three seasons in Gainesville, Richard averaged 11.8 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.2 steals per game over 108 appearances and 105 starts, shooting 46.2% from the field and 36.3% from beyond the arc. The Fairburn, Georgia, native opened up his collegiate career with the Belmont Bruins, averaging 12.1 points, six rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.2 steals in 33 games (30 starts) as a freshman before moving on to Florida.
