
RCMP arrest suspect in death of Shoal Lake Cree Nation child
RCMP have a suspect in custody after the death of a young child on Shoal Lake Cree Nation last week.
Police were called to the community, about 100 kilometres east of Nipawin, Sask., at about 7 p.m. on May 23, 2025, responding to reports that a child under the age of 10 was seriously injured.
When police arrived, they found the child unresponsive inside the home.
According to RCMP, life-saving measures were attempted, but the child was declared dead at the scene.
Police determined the death was suspicious and have transferred the investigation to the RCMP's Major Crimes Division.
Police have a suspect in custody that they say was known to the child.
RCMP said there is no elevated risk to public safety.
