Sunshine Coast motorbike rider and her canine co-pilot fined by police
A Queensland woman has been fined for riding with her pooch on her motorbike in a harness she bought online.
Officers from Sunshine Coast Highway Patrol stopped the motorbike rider and her furry friend at Alexandra Headland last Saturday to question the 35-year-old Maroochydore woman.
She said she bought the harness, that allowed her dog to travel between her arms as she rode, online.
"Yeah, no, I didn't know [it was illegal]," she said.
"I bought this off Temu."
In a video captured by police, Senior Sergeant Shane Panoho from Sunshine Coast Highway Patrol told the woman the device could place the rider and her pooch in harm's way.
"I've never seen the whole harness thing before," he said.
"You can't be riding around with the dog in between your arms.
"If he starts moving around and going off anything can happen, and that is going to cause you to crash."
In a statement, he said all riders had to be safe and responsible on the roads, "although the dog seemed to be comfortable on the bike".
The rider was fined $376 for riding with an animal between her arms.

Inquest ordered into the death of woman who leapt from moving car in Qld
Queensland Attorney-General Deborah Frecklington has ordered an inquest into the death of a woman killed on the Bruce Highway after jumping from the ute she was a passenger in. Courtney Anderson, 28, suffered 'catastrophic injures' after jumping from the moving vehicle at Bajool, near Rockhampton, about 5pm on Easter Monday last year. More than a year later, Ms Frecklington said she would direct the Coroners Court of Queensland to hold an inquest into Ms Anderson's death after a meeting with her family in May. The Justice Minister said she made the decision to hold an inquest after she was also provided with 'new information', with the timing to be determined. 'After considering the concerns raised by Courtney's family, I believe it is in the public interest to hold an inquest into her death,' Ms Frecklington said. 'Courtney was very much loved and I hope by providing this direction, I can save her family from further heartbreak and help them to get the answers they need. 'I extend my sincere condolences to Courtney's family and friends.' The Central Coroner previously investigated Ms Anderson's death, with the findings having been provided to her family. Ms Anderson was a passenger in the gold Toyota HiLux and died on the side of the highway about 8m away. At the time, she was travelling with her de-facto partner, Ashley John Campbell, 36. Mr Campbell has not been charged with any offences relating to Ms Anderson's death.

Billy Slater defends Ezra Mam selection call weeks after returning from drug-driving ban
Billy Slater has defended picking Ezra Mam for State of Origin just three games after his return from a drug-driving ban, adamant the Brisbane star will add to Queensland's squad. Mam is expected to be rolled out as 18th man for next Wednesday's must-win clash at Optus Stadium in Perth, after being named in Slater's 20-man squad. The uncapped Maroon will undergo scans on his knee before entering camp on Monday, after copping a knock in the Broncos' win over Gold Coast on Saturday night. Queensland are confident he will be fit to line up, with Slater describing the injury as a 'bump' when he unveiled his squad on Monday morning. It was always going to be contentious, with Slater dropping captain Daly Cherry-Evans and picking Tom Dearden to wear the No.7 jersey. But Mam's selection has added to the headlines. The Brisbane five-eighth copped a nine-match ban for crashing a car while driving unlicensed and with drugs in his system last October. Three occupants of the Uber he collided with were injured, including a woman and her young daughter. Mam was fined $120,000 by the NRL and subsequently attended a rehabilitation facility and worked on a job site before returning to pre-season training in January. Slater said he had not had a chance to sense how remorseful Mam was, having only spoken to the 22-year-old on Sunday night to inform him of his selection. 'He's the right person for that position right now,' Slater said. 'I am sure people will have their speculation around all the people selected. That is OK, everyone is entitled to their opinion. 'He has been doing a great job since he returned. We feel the squad will benefit from him being here.' Mam has played three NRL games since his return to the playing arena and was booed repeatedly by the Brookvale Oval crowd in the recent 34-6 loss to Manly. But Slater said there was no doubt the Indigenous star had done enough to prove his worth to the Maroons squad, and put one question back on critics. 'Have you watched the couple of games back? He has been pretty good, I don't think he has skipped a beat,' Slater said. 'By all reports he has been doing a lot of training through the first half of the year while he was sitting out. 'He has been in this position before and been part of this squad before. I am sure he will take his opportunity if presented.' On one level Mam's inclusion should come as no surprise. After his three-try display in the 2023 grand final he was brought into his first pre-season Maroons camp in February of 2024. Slater then invited him into camp ahead of game one of the 2024 Origin series as a player identified as a potential long-term in Queensland player.

Four Queensland men extradited from NSW over alleged home invasion
Police have extradited four men from New South Wales to Queensland over their alleged involvement in a "vicious" home invasion on the Sunshine Coast. A group of men allegedly forced their way into a unit complex on Maroochydore's Sixth Avenue on April 10, threatening a 27-year-old man and 29-year-old woman with violence and demanding money. Five men allegedly left the unit a short time later, leaving two from group behind with the man and woman. Police were called to the unit after concerns were raised for the couple. Two men, aged 30, were arrested inside the unit soon afterwards. They have since been charged with one count each of deprivation of liberty and extortion with intent to gain benefit with threat of detriment. On Thursday, New South Wales police executed search warrants across Sydney's western suburbs. Four men were arrested and extradited on a Queensland arrest warrant on the same charges. Detectives from the Sunshine Coast District Crime Group travelled to Sydney ahead of the extraditions. Detective Inspector Chris Toohey said the arrests were the result of exhaustive police work during a "complex investigation". "This has been a protracted investigation with close cooperation between specialist detectives and regional police, in conjunction with NSW Police Force," he said. "This was a serious, vicious and premeditated attack and this outcome should serve as a strong warning criminal behaviour will not be tolerated." The four extradited men arrived in Queensland on Friday and were due to face Brisbane Magistrates Court this morning. A fifth man will be extradited at a later date due to unrelated medical issues.
