BKFC is moving from the ring to the ice with its latest venture.
The leader in bare-knuckle boxing announced Wednesday that it has acquired a stake in on-ice fight league Ice Wars, to create BKFC Ice Wars — touted Wednesday as a combat sports promotion specializing in "legal, sanctioned and regulated hockey fights."
And yes, it's exactly how it sounds: Combat on ice, as you'll often see in the middle of a hockey game.

Ice Wars founder Charlie Nama is set to helm the project as CEO, with the first event titled "Battle of the Borders," pitting Americans vs. Canadians on June 14 in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Both Nama and BKFC founder David Feldman released the following statements Wednesday via press release.
Feldman: "We've been watching what the team at Ice Wars has been building, and it's been incredible to see the passionate response they've received from audiences. Their vision and energy align perfectly with what we do at BKFC — bringing raw, high-adrenaline combat sports to fans in a way they've never seen before. Partnering with them to create BKFC Ice Wars was an easy decision, and we're excited to take this to the next level together."
Nama: "Partnering with BKFC is a game-changer for Ice Wars. BKFC's backing gives us the platform and resources to bring our sport to the world stage, creating a new frontier in combat sports. This isn't just a partnership — it's the fusion of two high-energy, no-holds-barred fight disciplines into one powerhouse league. Our first event is just the beginning, and we're building something that will redefine international prizefighting competition and entertainment."
BKFC Ice Wars won't be as simple as, "Go out and fight on the ice." The new fight league will have its own set of rules, starting with bouts that consist of three or five 90-second rounds with one-minute breaks between them. Two referees will oversee the action with three rink-side judges scoring the fights as a whole, not round-by-round. Fighters will wear traditional hockey gear and four-ounce MMA gloves.

Weight classes and the official scoring criteria can be seen below.
Scoring criteria - Judges shall evaluate the bout based on effective striking (Plan A), effective aggressiveness (Plan B), and control of the fighting area (Plan C). Plans B and C are only taken into consideration if Plan A is weighed as being even. Effective striking is judged by determining the impact/effect of legal strikes landed by a fighter solely based on the results of such legal strikes. Effective aggressiveness means aggressively making attempts to finish the fight. Fighting area control is assessed by determining who is dictating the pace, place and position of the bout.
Weight Classes -
Heavyweight (over 200 lbs.)
Cruiserweight (175 to 200 lbs.)
Middleweight (150 to 175 lbs.)
Lightweight (under 150 lbs.)
The first BKFC Ice Wars event is expected to be a 12-fight card. Instead of a traditional hockey ice rink, fights will occur in 'The Ice Box,' a 900-square-foot ice enclosure designed specifically for ice fighting.
The sequel event is already planned for later the same month, on June 28, in Enoch, Alberta, Canada.
BKFC Ice Wars is targeting at least four more events to finish out 2025 afterward.

Alexander Volkanovski pressures Jon Jones to 'just retire' amid Tom Aspinall hesitancy
Alexander Volkanovski pressures Jon Jones to 'just retire' amid Tom Aspinall hesitancy Alexander Volkanovski says fellow UFC champion Jon Jones needs to make a decision on his fighting future. Jones (28-1 MMA, 22-1 UFC) is yet to unify his heavyweight title with interim champ Tom Aspinall (15-3 MMA, 8-1 UFC), and with his continuously uncertain answers, many are wondering if he'll ever fight again. UFC CEO Dana White said Jones agreed to fight Aspinall, but with the fight still not official, Aspinall insists he's ready to move on. UFC featherweight champion Volkanovski (27-5 MMA, 14-4 UFC) doesn't like the idea of Jones getting to hold onto the belt while he decides what's next. Jones hasn't competed since finishing Stipe Miocic last November at UFC 309. "If you're the champ, you defend your belt. It's a responsibility," Volkanovski said on the Overdogs Podcast. "You can't just sit out. You need to be reasonably active. You need to fight whoever's there. If you've got an interim champ, it's a no-brainer. So, I don't want to throw heaps of shade, but look, I know he's proved himself. "Everyone's like, 'Look what he's done, it's fine.' No, not really. Don't hold up the division just because. I know your resume is incredible. You're considered the greatest of all time, we get that. So, if you don't want to fight, just retire, you're done. Or if you want big fights, you're going to have to vacate the title." During his first UFC featherweight title reign, Volkanovski remained active. He competed in six title fights from April 2022 to February 2024, before opting to take a break after back-to-back knockout losses. After losing his belt to Ilia Topuria at UFC 298, he reclaimed his featherweight title by defeating Diego Lopes for the vacant belt at UFC 314.

(Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images) Jamahal Hill (12-3-0-1) had a 5-0 record when he appeared on a Dana White Contender Series card in July 2019. He won that fight against Alexander Poppeck by TKO in the third round. The victory earned him a UFC contract. Hill made his official UFC debut in January 2020, winning a decision over Darko Stosic on the main card of an ESPN+ event at PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina. He then faced Klidson Abreu in May 2020. He initially won that bout by first-round TKO, but the result was later overturned to a no-contest because Hill tested positive for marijuana He followed that fight with a December 2020 TKO over former interim light heavyweight title challenger Ovince Saint Preux. Hill's unbeaten streak ended in his next trip to the Octagon, when Paul Craig ended their June 2021 fight in under two minutes by TKO. Hill bounced back from that loss by rattling off three straight 'Performance of the Night' bonus-winning knockouts. That run earned him a shot at then-champion Glover Teixeira. Hill put on a striking clinic in that fight, battering Teixeira over five rounds to earn a one-sided decision win and the UFC 205-pound crown. That fight headlined UFC 283 in January 2023. Misfortune ended Hill's title reign. In July 2023, he suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon during a UFC fighter basketball game. He relinquished the title and underwent surgery to repair the injury. Hill returned at UFC 300 in a matchup against UFC light heavyweight champ Alex Pereira. Pereira ended that fight via knockout at the 3:14 mark of the first round. Hill returned to the Octagon at UFC 311 when he faced former champ Jiri Prochazka on the main card. Prochazka ended that bout via TKO at 3:01 of Round 3. Hill, the No. 4 ranked UFC light heavyweight, has seven wins by knockout and five decision victories. His three losses have come via knockout. (Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images) Khalil Rountree Jr. (13-6-0-1) joined the UFC in July 2016 when a loss to Andrew Sanchez in the season finale of The Ultimate Fighter dropped him to 4-1 as a pro. A submission loss to Tyson Pedro followed Rountree's defeat to Sanchez. However, Rountree went 3-0-0-1 after that setback, scoring three knockout wins in his victories. A knockout loss to Johnny Walker, who Rountree was favored to beat, ended his unbeaten streak. A decision victory over Eryk Anders in April 2019 got Rountree back in the win column, but a TKO loss to Ion Cutelaba and a decision setback against Marcin Prachnio followed. In September 2021, the UFC matchmakers booked Rountree against Modestas Bukauskas. He won that scrap via TKO. That win was the first of five consecutive victories for Rountree. Rountree was scheduled to face former UFC light heavyweight champ Jamahal Hill in June, but a self-reported drug test failure knocked him from that card. The Nevada State Athletic Commission suspended Rountree 4.5 months for that drug test failure. When Rountree returned to action it was at UFC 307 in the main event of the pay-per-view card opposite then-UFC 205-pound champion Alex Pereira. Pereira battered Rountree before ending the fight via TKO in the fourth round. Rountree has nine knockout wins and four decision victories. His losses have come by knockout (three), submission (one) and decision (two). He is the No. 7 ranked competitor in the UFC's 205-pound weight class. We will have more on the UFC Baku fight card and the Hill vs. Rountree fight as fight night nears, including betting odds, picks, predictions and more. Craig admits to 'illegal move' in controversial 'no contest'
Scotland's Paul Craig has urged UFC fans not "to persecute" Rodolfo Bellato after he was accused of "hamming it up" by "flopping" to the canvas following a kick to the face during their light-heavyweight contest in Atlanta. Craig admits it was "an illegal move" that resulted in the fight being ruled a no contest. Advertisement The fight had been postponed from 14 weeks ago when the 29-year-old Brazilian pulled out with a cold sore - and this time it was cut short seconds before the end of round one. "A few people have messaged me regarding this and are saying that it looked a bit floppish - like he was maybe hamming it up," said the 37-year-old Craig. "I don't want to think any fighter is looking for an easy way out in this sport. We're all fighters, we're all in the UFC - the pinnacle of of our careers - and we're looking to put on performances. But I can see where people are looking at it and think it looks a bit floppish, like he's maybe taking a dive." Craig admitted it was "raw at the moment" but did not want to think that might be the case. Advertisement "I was in the neutral corner, I was looking over and I was seeing him kind of flop like he was trying to wrestle the referee and he was in a daze, but when I spoke to him, he seemed pretty compos mentis and he was like, 'I don't know what happened'," he added. "You know what, it's my fault as much as it is his fault. We shouldn't be looking to persecute him if he's taking taken the knee - it was an illegal move." To make matters worse for Craig, he had moved back up a weight hoping to put a three-loss streak behind him in what was the final fight of his current UFC contract. "I'm now in the best shape I've ever been in," he said. "I was wanting to make a stamp in that division and say, hey, I am back. Advertisement "I've got to take positives from it. I felt good in there and I was moving well. I was landing my shots and my shot selection was perfect. "But, in the heat of the moment, I thought he was standing up, so I throw my axe kick, looking to land a heavy upkick to his face." Craig pointed out that a no-contest was at least not as bad as another defeat and is hopeful of a rematch with Bellato. If not, he is willing to go up against "any light-heavyweight the UFC offers" and believes he could even repeat his 2018 win over current champion Magomed Ankalaev if given the chance.
