Kuwait officially joins Global Water Organization
RIYADH - Kuwait joined on Wednesday the newly-established Global Water Organization as a founding member. Minister of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy Dr. Subaih Al-Mukhaizeem signed the Charter to join the GWO in Riyadh. This was part of a ceremony inaugurated by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal Bin Farhan Al Saud at the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture. Other notable signatories of the charter included a minister from Pakistan, as well as representatives from Senegal, Mauritania, and Qatar, along with international officials such as the Spanish Consul General and the Greek Ambassador to Saudi Arabia. In his opening remarks, Prince Faisal emphasized Saudi Arabia's commitment to the Global Water Organization, underscoring its role in tackling global water challenges and the Kingdom's financial support over the next five years.
He urged UN member states and the private sector to collaborate on sustainable water management solutions.
Saudi Minister of Environment Abdulrahman Al-Fadhli emphasized the shared responsibility for water conservation and its crucial role in economic development. He stressed the importance of integrated water management and innovative financing to address issues such as water scarcity and climate change.
He noted that the establishment of the GWO is a significant step in addressing global water issues.

Saudi Arabia issues Hajj heat warning
Saudi Arabia has issued safety warnings to Hajj pilgrims amid extreme heat forecasts. The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has urged pilgrims to remain in their tents on Arafah Day from 10am to 4pm and advised against venturing to Jabal Al Rahmah or Namirah Mosque to avoid exposure to extreme heat. As part of its heightened efforts to prepare for the Hajj season 1446 AH and ensure that pilgrims can perform their rituals with ease and tranquillity, the Ministry issued safety guidelines in light of high temperatures at the holy sites. Saudi Hajj heat warning The ministry emphasised the importance of adhering to the authorisation schedules set by the relevant authorities and ensuring compliance at all stages of movement between the holy sites. It also stressed the necessity of using the approved means of transport, as outlined in the official transportation plan, and refraining from walking between locations during the designated times. The ministry also reminded pilgrims of the importance of safeguarding the 'Nusuk' card and presenting it when requested. Every pilgrim is required to carry the card while in the holy sites and must ensure it is not misplaced, as it serves as a vital identification document that facilitates access and provides assistance when necessary. The ministry stressed the need to follow these guidelines to ensure the safety of all pilgrims in Saudi Arabia. IsDBI engages global stakeholders to advance Islamic finance during group Annual Meetings in Algiers
Jeddah, Saudi Arabia – The Islamic Development Bank Institute (IsDBI) has reinforced its leadership in Islamic finance by engaging with key stakeholders in a series of high-level bilateral meetings during the 2025 IsDB Group Annual Meetings in Algiers, Algeria. These strategic engagements underscore IsDBI's commitment to fostering collaboration, innovation, and sustainable development across its Member Countries. Led by Dr. Sami Al-Suwailem, Acting Director General, the IsDBI team included Mr. Mohammad Khalid Jawahir, Senior Islamic Finance Specialist; Dr. Hylmun Izhar, Senior Research Economist; and Dr. Wejdan Kenali, Senior Editor. The IsDBI's agenda focused on advancing partnerships, capacity development, and knowledge-driven solutions in Islamic finance. Strengthening Global Partnerships Key engagements included a meeting with the Securities Commission Malaysia, represented by Mrs. Sharifatul Hanizah, Executive Director, Islamic Capital Market and Mr. Hamzil Mohamadan, Head ICM Strategic Affairs, to explore collaboration in Sukuk, Awqaf, and sustainability initiatives. Promoting Innovation and Knowledge Sharing The delegation from Bank Negara Malaysia, led by Ms. Nurul Izza Idris, Director of the Islamic Finance Department, exchanged insights on capacity building, digital payment innovation, and enhanced cooperation with Central Asian Member Countries. A meeting with the Participation Banks Association of Türkiye (TKBB), represented by Ms. Fatma Çınar, Deputy Secretary General of TKBB and Mr. Ömer Karakuş from the Katılım Finans Kefalet (Islamic Credit Guarantee Fund), included discussions on Türkiye's experiences in credit guarantees, digital transformation, and sustainability reporting, with an emphasis on knowledge sharing. Supporting Regulatory Development and Strategic Planning Engagements with H.E. Sheku A. Fantamadi Bangura, Minister of Finance and IsDB Governor for Sierra Leone, and H.E. Hassan Miras, Deputy Minister of Finance and Acting IsDB Governor for the Republic of Maldives, focused on developing national Islamic finance strategies, regulatory frameworks, and capacity-building programs. Meetings with Dr. Mohamed Abouzain, General Manager of Algeria's National Office of Awqaf and Zakat, and Dr. Ahmed Lamine Athié, Director General of Senegal's Haute Autorité du Waqf (HAW), addressed long-term strategic planning and public awareness for waqf management.
