Penn State Behrend hosts 10th annual STEAM Fair
Penn State Behrend was the place to be Monday night for children looking to answer the question 'What do you want to be when you grow up?'
The university hosted its 10th annual STEAM Fair at the Junker Center, with hundreds showing up to learn something new about the industry.
Presidents Day — Recognizing Washington's Trail in Waterford, PA
Attendees visited over 70 different learning stations, ranging from robotics to chemistry.
One event organizer said the fair is a way to introduce people to the world of STEAM, and the event is like a career fair for children.
Protest held following closure announcement of Blessed Sacrament School
'All we're trying to do is to show kids of all ages all the different types of careers there are in STEAM. It's a way for us to kind of recruit that next generation into all different kinds of careers across the nation,' said Melanie Ford, director of youth education outreach.
'I'm really interested in science and space and I've always wanted to go to Mars, and they have like a lot of fun science things here, and I was really just excited to come,' said Isabella Melaragno, a Girl Scout.
As for what's next for her journey to Mars, the young girl scout said a lot of studying.

MAIA Biotechnology Announces New Responder in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Phase 2 Clinical Trial
CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--MAIA Biotechnology, Inc. (NYSE American: MAIA) ('MAIA', the 'Company'), a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing targeted immunotherapies for cancer, today announced a new partial response (PR) was identified in a patient after 20 months of treatment in its Phase 2 THIO-101 clinical trial evaluating ateganosine (THIO), sequenced with Regeneron's immune checkpoint inhibitor (CPI) cemiplimab (Libtayo®) in patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who are resistant to immune therapy and chemotherapy. A partial response is defined as a decrease in tumor size of at least 30%. 'The patient remained on treatment and we observed stable disease for more than twenty months before the partial response was identified, highlighting the efficacy, safety and low toxicity of the treatment. Extended-term responses like this are not often seen in heavily pretreated patients in hard-to-treat diseases such as NSCLC, where the prognosis for the advanced-stage of the disease is typically poor,' said MAIA Chairman and CEO Vlad Vitoc, M.D. 'We confirmed this response with a second scan, and we are highly confident that ateganosine could become an outstanding therapeutic alternative for third-line NSCLC patients.' THIO-101 third line (3L) data cutoff from May 15, 2025, showed median overall survival (OS) of 17.8 months for the 22 NSCLC patients who received at least one dose of ateganosine in parts A and B of the trial. At the data cutoff, the patient with the longest survival in the trial had completed 32 cycles of therapy and had 24.3 months survival. Studies of standard-of-care (SOC) chemotherapy treatments for NSCLC in a similar setting have shown OS of 5 to 6 months. 1 MAIA has announced the trial design for an expansion of its THIO-101 pivotal Phase 2 trial in NSCLC to assess overall response rates (ORR) in advanced NSCLC patients receiving third line (3L) therapy who were resistant to previous CPI treatment and chemotherapy. About Ateganosine Ateganosine (THIO, 6-thio-dG or 6-thio-2'-deoxyguanosine) is a first-in-class investigational telomere-targeting agent currently in clinical development to evaluate its activity in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Telomeres, along with the enzyme telomerase, play a fundamental role in the survival of cancer cells and their resistance to current therapies. The modified nucleotide 6-thio-2'-deoxyguanosine induces telomerase-dependent telomeric DNA modification, DNA damage responses, and selective cancer cell death. Ateganosine-damaged telomeric fragments accumulate in cytosolic micronuclei and activates both innate (cGAS/STING) and adaptive (T-cell) immune responses. The sequential treatment of ateganosine followed by PD-(L)1 inhibitors resulted in profound and persistent tumor regression in advanced, in vivo cancer models by induction of cancer type–specific immune memory. Ateganosine is presently developed as a second or later line of treatment for NSCLC for patients that have progressed beyond the standard-of-care regimen of existing checkpoint inhibitors. About MAIA Biotechnology, Inc. MAIA is a targeted therapy, immuno-oncology company focused on the development and commercialization of potential first-in-class drugs with novel mechanisms of action that are intended to meaningfully improve and extend the lives of people with cancer. Our lead program is ateganosine (THIO), a potential first-in-class cancer telomere targeting agent in clinical development for the treatment of NSCLC patients with telomerase-positive cancer cells. Artelo's Fatty Acid Binding Protein 5 Inhibitor, ART26.12, Compares Favorably to Naproxen in an Osteoarthritis Pain Study
SOLANA BEACH, Calif., June 05, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Artelo Biosciences, Inc. (Nasdaq: ARTL), a clinical-stage pharmaceutical company focused on modulating lipid-signaling pathways to develop treatments for people living with cancer, pain, dermatological or neurological conditions, today announced its presentation of new data at the British Pain Conference held in Newport, Wales, UK on June 3-5, 2025 ( that further validates the therapeutic potential of Fatty Acid Binding Protein (FABP) inhibitors in treating osteoarthritis (OA) pain. Professor Saoirse O'Sullivan, Vice President of Translation Sciences at Artelo Biosciences, presented results from an animal study titled: 'The Fatty Acid Binding Protein 5 Inhibitor ART26.12 is a Novel Analgesic for Osteoarthritis Pain.' The data builds upon an extensive set of pre-clinical data for ART26.12 that demonstrates analgesic and anti-nocicpetive effects in multiple models of pain. Positive effects of ART26.12 were observed in a surgical rat model of osteoarthritis, in which either single or repeated oral doses of Artelo's FABP5 inbitor increased the ability of rats to bear weight on the limb with OA out to four weeks. Professor O'Sullivan stated, 'ART26.12 was effective in a dose-responsive manner, with sustained and consistent effects over 28 days. The analgesic effect of ART26.12 was similar to naproxen, a proven first-line therapy which is often hampered by a number of serious side effects when taken chronically.' Now undergoing human trials, ART26.12 is a novel, non-opioid, non-steroidal drug candidate initially in development for the prevention and treatment of peripheral neuropathy caused by common chemotherapy treatments with potential for development as an alternative for chronic OA pain. OA is a progressive joint disease in which cartilage wears away over time, causing chronic pain, stiffness, swelling, and significant loss of mobility, especially in the knees, hips, hands, and spine. It affects approximately 606.9 million people globally, including over 32 million in the U.S., and can lead to disabling pain, reduced quality of life, and loss of independence, especially in advanced cases. About ART26.12 ART26.12, Artelo's lead FABP5 inhibitor, is being developed as a novel, peripherally acting, non-opioid, non-steroidal analgesic. Data from the first Phase 1 trial with ART26.12 is anticipated in Q2 2025. The initial clinical development planned is for chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN). FABPs are a family of intracellular proteins that chaperone lipids important to normal cellular function. FABP is overexpressed and associated with abnormal lipid signaling in several pathologies. In addition to ART26.12 in CIPN, Artelo's extensive library of small molecule inhibitors of FABPs has shown therapeutic promise for the treatment of certain cancers, neuropathic and nociceptive pain, psoriasis, and anxiety disorders. About Artelo Biosciences Artelo Biosciences, Inc. is a clinical-stage pharmaceutical company dedicated to the development and commercialization of proprietary therapeutics that modulate lipid-signaling pathways. Artelo is advancing a portfolio of broadly applicable product candidates designed to address significant unmet needs in multiple diseases and conditions, including anorexia, cancer, anxiety, dermatologic conditions, pain, and inflammation.
