IIT Delhi starts BS Chemistry with AI-ML focus, open to JEE Advanced qualifiers
If you're aiming for IIT Delhi through JEE Advanced 2025, here's something new to consider -- India's top tech institute has announced its first-ever Bachelor of Science (BS) programme in Chemistry.
The four-year course will kick off from the 2025-26 academic year and is open to students who clear JEE Advanced 2025 and apply through the JoSAA counselling portal. NEW COURSE TO BRIDGE CRUCIAL GAP
So, what's special about this programme? It's designed to fill a gap many students don't even know exists -- between traditional chemistry degrees and the more application-driven engineering mindset.
According to IIT Delhi, many engineering graduates lack deep scientific grounding, while chemistry grads often miss out on how those principles are applied in the real world. This new BS course aims to fix that.
Students will get a blend of core science, engineering basics, and modern tech skills. The first year focuses on foundational science and engineering courses.
From the second year, students dive into core chemistry topics, followed by interdisciplinary electives and research projects in the third and fourth years. There's even an option to take a Minor in another subject. MAIN FEATURES OF BS CHEMISTRY AT IIT DELHI
Key features of the programme include: Around 30% hands-on lab work
Exposure to AI-ML applications in chemistry
Training in experimental and computational chemistry
Cross-department electives to broaden learning
Graduates can expect to be ready for a range of careers -- in pharma, semiconductors, oil and gas, defence, automotive, research, and chemical consulting.
This BS Chemistry programme is part of IIT Delhi's larger academic revamp to make degrees more flexible and aligned with today's job market.
It follows a broader curriculum update for UG, PG, and PhD programmes, all set to roll out in 2025-26.

Under this agreement, undergraduate and postgraduate students from IIT Bhilai will have the opportunity to study in France and earn joint degrees, thereby gaining invaluable international exposure. The collaboration will focus on several key areas, including Mechanical Engineering, Polymer and Composite Materials, Mechatronics, and Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence, as mentioned in the press release. Meanwhile, the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) and the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) have been conducting counselling for admission to Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and other institutions. While JoSAA is responsible for conducting counselling for IIT admission and for the NIT+ system (NIT, IIIT, etc), CSAB conducts counselling only for the NIT+ system. JoSAA will be regulating the joint seat allocation for admissions to 127 institutes for the academic year 2025-26. This includes 23 IITs, 31 NITs, IIEST Shibpur, 26 IIITs, and 46 Other-Government Funded Technical Institutes (Other-GFTIs). The registration and choice filling for JoSAA round 1 counselling will begin on June 3. The seat allocation process through JoSAA would involve six normal rounds. IIT Delhi To Launch BTech In Design Programme, Both JEE Advanced And UCEED Scores Required
Last Updated: Applicants must have completed their Class 12 or equivalent examination in either 2024 or 2025, with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as required subjects. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi is set to introduce a new BTech in Design program in the 2025–26 academic session. This four-year undergraduate course, offered by the Department of Design, aims to blend technical education with design thinking to equip students to tackle complex socio-technical challenges. The initial intake will be limited to 20 students. The programme will consist of 155 credits in total. The course will focus on product design subjects, along with content from other BTech departments, centres, and schools within the institute. ' (Design)programme at IIT Delhi will have strong product design focus. However, in today's fast changing world design of products in isolation has limited meaning and is often accompanied by design of environments, communications, systems and services," reads the official notice by IIT-Delhi. ' in Design is a very unique programme crafted specially for empathetic and creative minds intent on understanding socio-technical systems around us and designing interventions for problems in these systems," the notice added. The application process will be conducted online via IIT Delhi's official admissions portal. Interested candidates must register, provide their details, and indicate their preference for the BTech in Design programme. Key dates for application submission, counselling, and seat allotment will be published on the institute's website in due course of time. Eligibility Criteria Admission to the programme requires candidates to clear both the JEE Advanced and the Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED). Only those who qualify in both exams will be considered, with shortlisting based on their combined performance in these national-level entrance tests. Applicants must have completed their Class 12 or equivalent examination in either 2024 or 2025, with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as required subjects. For UCEED eligibility, candidates must be born on or after 1 October 2000. A five-year age relaxation is available for candidates from Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) categories, following the respective entrance examination rules. Will Donald Trump ban X if his nasty feud with Elon Musk escalates? AI Guru's big prediction
The pairing of US President Donald Trump and Elon Musk , the leader of the richest country in the world with the richest person in the world, seemed a perfect match. But Musk's vociferous opposition to the president's bill, expressed on social media, touched off the two men's dispute last week and it got only worse. Amid the growing feud between Elon Musk and Donald Trump, an influential techie has predicted that the President will ban tech mogul's X if the tensions between the two escalates. The bromance came to an abrupt end this week in a very public and ugly way, as both men traded insults on their respective platforms. A former Disney child star turned AI guru says the hostility could lead to a government ban of the social-media platform under national-security pretexts, reports New York Post. 'Elon's a very smart person – yet he's prone to kind of having these mood swings and going on these campaigns and tirades. I think there's only so much Elon can do before Trump is ultimately going to invoke a show of force,' Leos told The Post. Live Events 'Musk now faces a difficult choice. He can ban Trump from X in retaliation, but that would almost certainly trigger an executive response from the White House,' Leos predicted. Leos further suggested that Trump might leverage Musk's access to classified information—or even his recent accusation linking Trump to the Epstein files—as grounds to argue that the Tesla CEO's behavior on X poses a potential national security risk. 'If there's anything related to that that could be the true, or if he is referencing something that is classified or privileged information, that could be considered a national security threat,' he said. Leos believes the legal framework for a ban already exists, and that Trump would likely invoke the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. He also thinks the spat will lead to discussions about regulating social media platforms and their influence on politics. Things spiraled quickly this week, after Musk called Trump's big, beautiful bill a 'pork-filled…abomination,' which led the president to accuse the tech billionaire of having 'lost his mind' and falling victim to 'Trump Derangement Syndrome.' Trump said Friday he has zero interest in speaking to Elon Musk amid their escalating feud. ALSO READ: Did Barron Trump predict Elon-Trump breakup? This hilarious video from inauguration sparks buzz Trump says Elon has 'lost his mind' Trump said Saturday that his relationship with Elon Musk was likely beyond repair after the two sparred publicly on social media this past week, and he warned there would be "serious consequences" if Musk financed candidates to run against Republicans who voted in favor of the president's domestic policy bill. In a phone interview with NBC journalist Kristen Welker, Trump said he had no plans to speak with Musk, calling the tech billionaire "disrespectful" to the office of the president. When asked whether he had any desire to repair his relationship with Musk, Trump said, "No." Trump has offered a range of views in his conversations over the past few days. In some, Trump has described Musk as somebody who has gone "crazy." In others, he has expressed sympathy, as if Musk were a wayward son.
