Fern Britton claims she 'foolishly' let exes and work colleagues 'manipulate' her as she reveals whether or not she'd be open to finding love again

Daily Mail6 hours ago

Fern Britton has admitted she 'foolishly' let past romantic partners and work colleagues 'manipulate' her.
The former This Morning presenter, 67, divorced TV executive Clive Jones, 76, which was finalised in 2000 following their split in 1998 after 10 years of marriage, and split from TV chef Phil Vickery, 64, in 2020.
Fern has now said she kicks herself for 'foolishly' giving 'power' to her former lovers, as well as those Fern has worked with throughout her illustrious career in show business.
Asked how the author has changed as she has got older in an interview with Saga magazine, Fern said: 'I always thought everything would be all right.
'Although that's not changed, I think I understand myself a bit better now and can look back and see that I foolishly handed power to partners, bosses and colleagues, because I'm very easy-going and I never used to see around the corner and think, "Oh hang on, they're actually manipulating me".'
However, the Celebrity Big Brother 2024 housemate expressed that she is open to dating again.
Asked if she would look for Mr. Right again, Fern revealed: 'I'm not averse to it but they'd have to be spectacular. They have to make me laugh, they must be kind, and they must be honest.'
Fern - who has 31-year-old twin sons named Jack and Harry, and a 27-year-old daughter called Grace with Clive, as well as a 23-year-old daughter named Winnie with Phil - said she thinks it is tricky for people to find relationships now.
She explained: 'I've got very interested in how complicated it is for young people dating. Grace has a lovely partner, but Winnie is single, and while she's a very attractive girl, it all seems so difficult now.
'In the '70s a man would just come and say, "Oh, do you want to go out?" and you'd reply, "Yes, thank you". Now it seems they're all giving each other therapy about someone they've been seeing for ten days.
'I was intrigued about how these relationships work and wanted to explore that a bit.'
And Fern has found happiness by going to church and helping to make drinks and food during the services. 'I've started regularly going to church, and honestly just helping make the coffees and the sandwiches in the church hall gives me the nicest feeling I've had for a long time,' she said.
'I would urge people not to be scared to do something, however small – find a charity to volunteer for, go and read in a school. People talk about this all the time, but it actually is amazing what it gives you back.'
It comes after she addressed Phillip Schofield 's departure from This Morning and reflected on their time hosting the show together after their falling out.
The 67-year-old anchored the ITV programme alongside Schofield, 63, for seven years before quitting in 2009.
Ahead of her departure, the pair famously fell out and haven't spoken since, with Phil previously claiming in his autobiography their relationship was 'beyond repair'.
It was claimed at the time she felt 'undervalued by ITV' and that she was 'living in Phil's shadow'.
Now 15 years on, Fern said she had 'great fun' hosting This Morning with her former pal whilst speaking about his own controversial exit.
Speaking to Saga Magazine, she said: 'It brought up a lot of mixed emotions.
'The years we worked together were mostly great fun and we were a very good partnership, which I can remember with fondness.
'I knew how much he loved his job and cared deeply for his public perception. It must have been a terribly difficult time for him and his family.'
In 2022, Fern ended their long-running feud when she congratulated Schofe in a video message to celebrate his 40th anniversary in television.
Last year the mum-of-four returned to screens, appearing on Celebrity Big Brother alongside Louis Walsh and Sharon Osbourne.
Tensions between Holly and Phil reached further heights when he boldly declared there were 'three s**ts' at ITV on his Channel 5 show Cast Away
Phillip stepped down from This Morning and subsequently all TV projects after he admitted to an 'unwise but not illegal' affair with a 20-year-old crew member on the daytime show.
Holly Willoughby, who took over hosting duties on This Morning from Fern, released a statement at the time saying she had felt 'hurt' by his 'lies'.
Holly stepped down from presenting This Morning after 14 years on the show due to a terrifying kidnap threat and subsequently took time out from the spotlight.
Phillip is also said to have called Holly 'The Witch' following the pair's departure from their presenting roles.
Tensions between the pair reached further heights when Phil boldly declared there were 'three s**ts' at ITV on his Channel 5 show Cast Away.
The pair used to be best friends, with their families even taking annual holidays together, but the bitter feud appears to have been reignited.
Phillip is said to have told Holly that she 'brought him down' before he resigned from This Morning.
Meanwhile, last week Phillip was making the most of the warm summer weather as he took his dog for a walk in west London on Wednesday.

Love Island fans claim Ben ‘looks like he's being held hostage' after surprise new couple is revealed

LOVE Island fans claim Ben looked "like he was being held hostage" after being chosen by Yasmin in tonight's recoupling. Having been dumped by Shakira days earlier after she criticised his lack of conversational skills, Ben had been forced to look elsewhere. 2 Tonight, the girls got to choose which boy they wanted to partner with and Yasmin, having failed to strike up a meaningful connection elsewhere, decided to pair with Ben. Yasmin said in her speech: "My romantic journey so far has been all over the shop. "I think although it's early days when I have conversations with this person I feel he just gets me. I came here to explore romantic connections and I think I'm really looking forward to this one. So the boy I'm coupling up with is Ben." Viewers felt Ben's face betrayed his real feelings and picked up on the very awkward body language between them as they sat side by side. The camera even caught Ben retracting his arm from behind Yasmin's back. One viewer wrote: "I don't think Ben likes Yasmin." A second said: "Ben looks like he's been held hostage." Another posted: "Ben looks like he's being held captive by Yasmin right now." But all hope wasn't lost as the pair got to know each other better the next day. Yasmin massaged sun cream into Ben's back and he told her that her speech was "cute", while she said it "came from the heart". But he risked undoing his progress as he failed to pick up on her sarcasm when she joked that he had a way with words, and then admitted he didn't know what "demeanor" meant.

The Hollywood actor, 61, cut a dapper figure as he arrived on the red carpet with the stunning 32-year-old, who was quick to help fix the star's outfit in front of the cameras. Brad donned a double-breasted British Racing Green-coloured suit, while flashing his movie star smile from behind tinted aviators. He paired it with a white collared shirt underneath, leaving the top buttons undone to reveal a satin scarf, which Ines was spotted adjusting in between snaps on the carpet. While she was already picture perfect, putting on a dazzling display in a champagne coloured halter-neck gown, that clung to her slender frame. She ensured all eyes were on her in the show-stopping number, which was encrusted in intricate beading and sequins and flashed a glimpse of her ample cleavage. The Hollywood actor, 61, cut a dapper figure as he arrived on the red carpet with the stunning 32-year-old, who was quick to help fix the star's outfit in front of the cameras Ines completed her look with a sparkling tasseled handbag and held tightly onto Brad's hand as they walked the carpet alongside his co-star Damson Idris, producer Lewis Hamilton and fellow movie star Tom Cruise. F1: The Movie was made in collaboration with Formula One's governing body, the FIA, with seven-times world champion Lewis being one of the producers. Brad plays the lead role of as troubled race car driver Sonny Hayes, who is pitted against rookie and rival Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris) as they battle it out at various Grand Prix's around the world. While the reviews for F1: The Movie aren't quite all in yet, social media reactions from several critics began flooding in on X this week. Many praised Brad and Damson's onscreen chemistry, as well the movie's overall look thanks to director Joseph Kosinski, who last worked on Top Gun: Maverick. With some even branding F1 the 'Top Gun for racing fans' - three years after the Tom Cruise aviator movie made an eye-popping $1.496 billion worldwide. On Tuesday, sources close to Brad spoke Us Weekly about how the actor had found an ideal 'quiet life' for himself after finalizing his divorce and starting up a new romance with Ines. One source said the A-lister is 'in a good place' after finalizing his brutal eight-year divorce struggle with Angelina Jolie in late 2024. While she was already picture perfect, putting on a dazzling display in a champagne coloured halter-neck gown, that clung to her slender frame Ines completed her look with a sparkling tasseled handbag and held tightly onto Brad's hand as they walked the carpet alongside his co-star Damson Idris, producer Lewis Hamilton and fellow movie star Tom Cruise They added that he has now found a 'good balance between being in the spotlight and having a private life.' The Once Upon A Time In Hollywood star was also said by a second source to have 'done a lot of therapy over the years' after revealing in 2017 that he had started working with a therapist and had gotten sober. That update on his mental health and substance use came just a year after Angelina, 50, had accused him of being verbally and physically abusive to her and their children after he became intoxicated on a private jet in 2016. She made the allegations as part of an FBI investigation into Brad that was ultimately dropped, but they came to light in 2022 when she reportedly filed a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit against the FBI to learn why the investigation petered out. He was ultimately cleared of any wrongdoing by the FBI, and Brad has denied his ex-wife's allegations. Despite the droves of famous stars who have since been 'canceled' after they were accused of various forms of misconduct, Brad has so far avoided a similar fate despite the alleged jet incident with his family. Borkowski PR found Mark Borkowski opined to Us Weekly that the actor's fame, charm and enduring attractiveness may have helped him weather the storm. 'When you're that genetically gifted, the scandal has to work twice as hard to stick,' he said. One source said the A-lister is 'in a good place' after finalizing his brutal eight-year divorce struggle with Angelina Jolie in late 2024 (pictured together in 2011) Despite his concerns, the source said he had displayed 'his commitment to Ines,' and she was said to be 'very understanding' and 'on the same page' about marriage Us Weekly also reported that Brad is still estranged from most of his six children with Angelina - Maddox, 23, Pax, 21, Zahara, 20, Shiloh, 19, and 16-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne. Sources said that he had 'made several efforts to reconnect with his kids,' but he was only able to regularly spend time with the twins, as they are his only children who are still affected by his and Angelina's custody agreement because they are minors, with his relationships with the older four all said to be 'strained'. While the publication also reported that Brad is 'cautious' about tying the knot again with Ines, after the way his previous marriages have fallen apart. Despite his concerns, the source said he had displayed 'his commitment to Ines,' and she was said to be 'very understanding' and 'on the same page' about marriage. 'For now, they value companionship and a relationship without pressure,' the insider added.

Jessie J undergoes surgery as she shares photos of the 'honest highs and lows' from her treatment for breast cancer

Jessie J has undergone surgery as she shares an 'honest' account of her breast cancer treatment. Posting on Instagram on Monday night, the singer posted selfies from her hospital bed, with her chest bandaged up. Her partner Chanan Safir Colman was also seen sweetly kissing her as she prepared to be wheeled down to surgery, whilst other clips showed Jessie's delight when her young son Sky was allowed to visit. She showed the realities of surgery, sharing a look at her surgical drain, which helps with fluid build up. Jessie, who revealed her breast cancer diagnosis earlier this month, told fans she was now resting at home post surgery and awaiting results. 'Blood warning‼️This post is some of the honest lows and highs of the last 48 hours. I will always show the good and hard bits of any journey I go through. Grateful to my doctor / surgeon and all the nurses who cared for me and all my family / friends who came to visit,' wrote the star, 'I am home now, to rest and wait for my results. Chanan is in a nurse outfit. No no, he isn't, but funny to imagine. Still hugging everyone going through something tough right now. We all got this!' Last weekend Jessie chocked back tears and vowed she would 'beat' breast cancer on stage at Capital's Summertime Ball with Barclaycard at Wembley Stadium. The singer thanked the 75,000 strong crowd for their support as she opened up about her illness. Jessie said: 'Today, this show is my last show before I go to beat breast cancer!'. As the audience cheered she continued: 'So it's so special to me you have no idea. I feel so special to be from the UK, to be an honest person and say how you feel. 'This is my last show before go treatment and all the things It's the most special thing and I'm so grateful for this life, for you guys, for my career, to my, my son. My partner, my parents'. 'My family, my band, my crew. We are so lucky, we have so much to live for, so much joy, so much, so many things to do'. Earlier this month Jessie, who assured fans her condition had been 'caught early', revealed she had suffered her 'worst day so far' amid her cancer battle as she broke down in tears and struggled through panic attacks. In a lengthy Instagram Stories post, she wrote: 'Honestly, had my worst day so far yesterday since my diagnosis and the busiest three months I have had in years. Work. Toddler. Cancer. life etc had my mind [drained]. Jessie, who shares two-year-old son Sky with partner Chanan Colman, continued: 'Panic attacks/ tears. big fears/ anger/ overwhelm bad. And you know what helped?'. 'I ate a corn on the cob. Turns out it's extremely hard to panic or cry while eating one. Highly recommend. Instead mood shift'. 'Tomorrow is a new day. The [rollercoaster] of cancer is [draining]. I won't be just talking about the highlights. And making jokes all the time. That isn't real life. Goodnight'. Returning to social media, The Price Tag hitmaker penned: 'IMO. It's [key] to acknowledge fear anger sadness panic overwhelm and let it come up and come out. holding it in won't make it go away. In any challenging situation in life'. 'So when I posted what I did yesterday about my current challenge in life, also while making light of the situation. That was one day in 10 weeks that I just lost it and was completely drowned in all the negative and bed feelings any cancer journey can bring. Which is healthy and needed. She went on: 'So I will cry, I will be scared, I will panic, I will feel all of it for a minute or even a full day. And then eat a [corn] or listen to a song that lifts me up or laugh with a friend on Face Time. And then go and be a mum, and go to work and show up and be what I feel 90% of the time'. 'Strong, fearless, healthy, and make some jokes about it all because that's my way. But i will not ignore the 10% that is fear and sadness'.
