LONDON (Reuters) -Aggie Beever-Jones scored a stunning first-half hat-trick as England were ruthless hosts in a 6-0 thrashing of Portugal on Friday at Wembley in their penultimate game of the Women's Nations League group stage.
Lucy Bronze, Beth Mead and Chloe Kelly also scored to keep England second in Group 3 of League A with 10 points, behind World Cup winners Spain, who have 12 points after their 5-1 win over Belgium earlier on Friday.
Sarina Wiegman's team shrugged off any lingering effects from a tumultuous week that saw goalkeeper Mary Earps' shock international retirement announcement, and were on the front foot from the opening whistle, scoring five goals before the game was 30 minutes old.
The 21-year-old Beever-Jones struck her first in the third minute, slotting home from a sharp angle, and Bronze headed home less than 90 seconds later.
Lauren Hemp beat a defender to put a cross into the box that led to Bronze heading in after Mead's shot was blocked.
With the floodgates opened, England attacked in waves and Beever-Jones completed her hat-trick with goals in the 26th and 33rd minutes, while Mead scored in the 29th and Kelly got on the score sheet in the 62nd.
England will be looking for a victory over Spain on Tuesday in Barcelona to secure a spot in the Nations League knockout finals.
In other League A matches on Friday, Germany defeated the Netherlands 4-0, Denmark beat Wales 1-0, and Norway and Iceland drew 1-1.

The 29-year-old Paolini responded bravely after going 4-1 down and wasted another match point as Svitolina went on to level the contest and pump her fists to loud cheers, before using the momentum to get her nose in front in the decider. Svitolina pulled away by winning four games in a row before her opponent got on the board and she promptly completed the victory with a searing backhand winner to reach the quarter-finals of Roland Garros for a fifth time. Mo'unga shrugs off broken hand to win Japanese title
FORMER All Black Richie Mo'unga shrugged off a broken hand to extend his remarkable title-winning streak after leading Toshiba Brave Lupus to their second straight Japanese championship on Sunday. The fly-half has finished every season in top-level domestic rugby since 2017 with a winner's medal and he picked up another as Toshiba beat Kubota Spears 18-13 in the Japan Rugby League One final. He had to do it the hard way after breaking his right hand in the closing stages of last week's semi-final win, with coach Todd Blackadder expecting his star man was '70-30' to miss the final. Mo'unga said he spent three days in an oxygen chamber in the build-up to the game and 'knew all along that I was going to play'. 'I knew it wasn't impossible to play this weekend, and obviously a final, it's a no-brainer really,' said the 31-year-old. 'You want to give yourself the best chance to be part of something special.' Mo'unga joined Toshiba on a three-year deal after helping New Zealand reach the 2023 World Cup final, where they lost to South Africa. He gave another playmaking masterclass in front of more than 50,000 fans at Tokyo's National Stadium. Mo'unga scored his team's first try with less than 10 minutes on the clock and set up their second with a crafty dummy early in the second half. He also scored eight points with his boot. Mo'unga won seven Super Rugby titles with the Crusaders in New Zealand and said he was 'so grateful to be part of winning teams'. Deschamps will find PSG's France players in strange state after party, Dembele says
FRANCE coach Didier Deschamps will find some of his players in a strange state when they return from Paris St Germain's weekend celebrations, forward Ousmane Dembele said following the club's first Champions League triumph. PSG crushed Inter Milan 5-0 in the final in Munich on Saturday, recording the biggest winning margin in the showpiece match of the continent's premier club competition. France players, including PSG's Lucas Hernandez, Warren Zaire-Emery, Bradley Barcola, Desire Doue and Dembele, are due to rejoin the national squad at Clairefontaine from Monday to prepare for Thursday's Nations League semi-final against Spain. 'There you go, we've made a whole nation, a whole city proud. And, like they say, the party is just getting started. Didier is going to find us in a strange state,' the 28-year-old joked during an interview on French television channel M6. The France international described the festivities as a long-awaited release after years of heartbreak. PSG's previous Champions League final appearance was in 2020, when they were narrowly beaten 1-0 by Bayern Munich. 'It's exceptional, what just happened.
