Congress MP seeks SC panel probe report

'When we submit a motion with our signatures, we have to give those facts leading to the charges. And then you have to say that under Article 124 or whatever article, these charges tantamount to constituting a case against the judge and he deserves to be removed,' he said.
The Congress leader further said that there is a provision under the Judges Inquiry Act when such a motion is submitted to the vice president or the Speaker, he has to apply his mind whether it is authentic and deserves admission .
'There was an in-house inquiry by the Supreme Court. As an informed member of Parliament, I consider that impeaching a judge, whether High Court or Supreme Court, is a very serious motion. I'm not talking of just Congress, all MPs, whoever signs,' said Tankha.

"Whole country should come together": Mallikarjun Kharge after visit to airplane crash site in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], June 15 (ANI): Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge visited the site of the Air India flight AI-171 crash in Ahmedabad and said such incidents should not be seen as routine occurrences. He emphasised the need for collective support across the country in the aftermath of the crash and urged people to come together to help those affected. Speaking at the site on Saturday, Kharge said, 'It is not right to say that such accidents happen and that they are normal. In such a time, the people of the whole country should come together. I would request my party workers and leaders to keep helping the people. If they need anything, medicine or anything else that is not available here, they should arrange for that, too.' Kharge also spoke to the wife and son of former Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP leader Vijay Rupani, who died in the crash. According to the Gujarat Congress, Kharge conveyed his condolences over a video call. He was accompanied by Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and other Congress leaders during the visit to the crash site and Ahmedabad Civil Hospital. Meanwhile, on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the crash site and expressed grief over the incident. He described the scene of the devastation as deeply 'saddening'. 'Visited the crash site in Ahmedabad today. The scene of devastation is saddening. Met officials and teams are working tirelessly in the aftermath. Our thoughts remain with those who lost their loved ones in this unimaginable tragedy,' PM Modi posted on X. There were 169 Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese nationals, and one Canadian national on board the crashed plane. Miraculously, one person, a British national of Indian origin, survived the crash, airline authorities said. The lone survivor, identified as Vishwashkumar Ramesh, a British national of Indian origin, sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment. The aircraft was piloted by Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, a Line Training Captain with 8,200 hours of flying experience, assisted by First Officer Clive Kundar, who had logged 1,100 flying hours. According to Air Traffic Control (ATC), the aircraft departed from Ahmedabad at 1339 IST (0809 UTC) from runway 23. It made a Mayday call to ATC, but thereafter, the aircraft did not respond to the calls made by ATC. Following the crash, the Tata group, which owns Air India, announced a compensation of Rs 1 crore each for the families of those who lost their lives in the tragic Air India plane crash on Thursday. Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi to visit Nilambur again today ahead of bye-polls

Malappuram (Kerala) [India], June 15 (ANI): With campaigning for the Kerala's Nilambur bye-polls in full swing, Congress leader and Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi is set to visit the area, which will energise party working working to get the party's candidate Aryadan Shoukath elected. 'Today Priyanka Gandhi is coming to Nilambur. It's a part of her constituency. She is coming here for the campaign. We will get a good response from Priyanka Gandhi's visit. Her visit will energise the party workers,' party's leader Ramesh Chennithala told ANI in Thrissur on Sunday. The Wayanad MP had visited Nilambur on June 13 (Friday ), as the area also comes under the Lok Sabha constituency. Notably in Malappuram, Congress leader Shama Mohamed said that such an election is a 'waste of state's money,' criticising PV Anwar for resigning as Nilambur MLA but contesting the by-elections anyway under a different political party. She also expressed confidence in the United Democratic Front (UDF) winning the assembly seat. The Congress leader told ANI, 'In the history of India, it's the first time that an MLA who resigned (PV Anwar) from a seat is standing again for the same seat, that too for a by-election. So what is the point of wasting the state's money, people's work, and the EC's involvement?' Claiming that Anvar is 'fooling the people of Kerala,' she said that the Left Democratic Front (LDF) themselves attack Anvar for not doing work in his constituency, despite being aligned with them before his resignation. 'PV Anwar is fooling the people of Kerala. The LDF candidate, M Swaraj, says that PV Anwar has done nothing in the last nine years. Who was PV Anwar with? PV Anwar was an MLA with the LDF. So, Swaraj is saying the LDF has done no work. I believe very strongly the UDF will win with a majority,' Mohamed said. With the Nilambur bypolls just a few days away and the contest heating up, state Congress president Sunny Joseph claimed that the party's MP, Shafi Parambil, was deliberately insulted by the police without any evidence when he came to campaign for the Nilambur by-election. There was a deliberate attempt to insult Congress MP Shafi Parambil. The police knew it was Shafi Parambil travelling in the car -- they directed him to stop and flashed a torchlight on his face. Even after recognising him, they asked him to open the car. He complied and even offered to open the bags for any search. This was done purposefully and intentionally,' Joseph said son Saturday. The elections were necessitated after the resignation of PV Anvar, an LDF-backed MLA, who stepped down in January after making several allegations against the Left government in the state. Apart from UDF candidate Shoukath, the LDF aims to retain its seat by having M Swaraj contes, and the BJP has fielded Mohan George. The by elections are also being called as an indication of the mood towards the state government, as the assembly elections are set to happen next year. (ANI)

"Amit Shah is doing what postmen once did," says Congress leader Surendra Rajput on UP Police constable recruitment

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], June 15 (ANI): Congress leader Surendra Rajput on Sunday took a dig at Union Home Minister Amit Shah, saying the government is hosting events to hand out appointment letters instead of creating new jobs. Rajput compared Shah's actions to those of a postman and criticised the government's employment record. Speaking to ANI, Rajput said, 'There are over 1.9 lakh vacancies in the police force alone, and lakhs of other positions remain unfilled--whether for teachers or lab assistants. Instead of creating new jobs, the government is merely distributing appointment letters for posts that have already been filled. Uttar Pradesh is struggling with unemployment, Amit Shah ji.' He further added,'The people of this state need jobs. If you provide employment, the appointment letters will automatically reach them--just like they used to arrive by post. Today, you're doing what postmen once did. This is nothing to be proud of, Home Minister. Give people jobs; appointment letters are meant to be delivered by postmen, not by you.' Rajput made the remarks ahead of a major government event in Lucknow where Union Home Minister Amit Shah was scheduled to distribute appointment letters to 60,244 newly recruited police constables. Earlier, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath hailed the large-scale recruitment as a 'historic moment' for Uttar Pradesh and said it reflects the state's commitment to strengthening law and order while empowering the youth through employment. In a post on X, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath termed the occasion as a 'historic moment' for the state. 'New Uttar Pradesh of New India' is going to witness a historic moment today. Hon'ble Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah will give appointment letters to 60244 candidates selected in the largest police recruitment examination ever conducted by the world's largest police force UP police in Lucknow today. Under the successful guidance of the respected Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the resolution of 'Safe Uttar Pradesh' is being fulfilled. The dreams of the youth are coming true,' CM Yogi wrote. 60,244 appointment letters will be distributed at the Defence Expo Ground in Lucknow. Out of the 60,244 constable posts filled through direct recruitment, 12,048 were allocated to women, making it the first time such a large number of female candidates secured appointments in any Indian security force. In a post on X, DGP of Police stated, 'From aspirants to protectors -- today, 60,244 dreams march into reality. This historic recruitment drive marks a new dawn for @Uppolice, as one of the largest in the country. Congratulations to every young man and woman who earned the khaki with courage, merit, and determination. Your journey in service begins today. Walk with pride, serve with integrity.' The Uttar Pradesh Police Constable Recruitment Exam 2024 was conducted on August 23, 24, 25, 30, and 31 last year across 67 districts in the state. The exam was held in two shifts, 10 am to 12 pm and 3 pm to 5 pm, and aimed to fill over 60,000 vacancies. With the support of the police administration, 1,174 examination centres were set up to ensure the smooth and fair conduct of the recruitment process. According to the UP Police, the recruitment was one of the largest, most transparent, and technology-driven drives in the country. Sharing a video of a selected candidate, UP Police posted on X. 'One voice out of 60,000+ dreams. Behind every newly recruited constable in Uttar Pradesh is a story of merit, determination, and an exam process that left no room for doubt. This is a glimpse of that journey -- made possible by the unwavering commitment of the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment & Promotion Board, which conducted one of the largest, most transparent, and technology-driven recruitment drives in the country,' UP Police wrote. Over the past eight years, the state has provided government jobs to around 8.5 lakh individuals. (ANI)
