Cesc Fabregas decides on surprise new job as mega-money Saudi deal agreed
Former Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas is now regarded as one of Europe's most exciting young coaches and he is now in the sights of Inter Milan in their hunt for a new boss Cesc Fabregas is wanted by Inter Milan to replace former boss Simone Inzaghi, after he agreed a lucrative proposal to become Al-Hilal 's new manager. But the ex- Arsenal man insists he has no intention of leaving Como. Inzaghi, 49, was being heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia in the build-up to last weekend's Champions League final and left his role with Inter just three days after they were thrashed 5-0 by Paris Saint-Germain in Munich. The Italian penned an open letter to fans after the decision was announced, saying: "The time has come for me to say goodbye to this club after a four-year journey, during which I gave everything. "I want to dedicate one last word to the millions of Nerazzurri fans who cheered me on, cried and suffered in difficult moments and laughed and celebrated in the six triumphs we experienced together. I will never forget you." Inzaghi has agreed terms with Al-Hilal to head to the Saudi Pro League - and Inter want Fabregas to replace him at the San Siro. Fabregas, 38, is currently the head coach of Inter's Serie A rivals, Como, and was recently the subject of interest from Bayer Leverkusen in their search for a successor to Xabi Alonso. Fabregas decided to stay put, however, Sky Sport Italia claimed on Wednesday that Fabregas is 'tempted' by the idea of taking over at Inter and was set to hold further talks with the Champions League finalists. The Spaniard however declared on Wednesday afternoon: "I really believe in Como's long-term project, I arrived here as a player and I'm very, very happy because I can work here the way I want." A deal to lure Fabregas away is also complicated by the fact he is also a shareholder in the club where he ended his playing career. Fabregas has garnered a reputation as one of Europe's most exciting young coaches during his time at the helm, where he has navigated Como to the safe haven of mid-table following promotion from Serie B. "Our path is long, it will last for several seasons and it revolves around Cesc Fabregas, who will not leave the club," Como president Mirwan Suwarso said, speaking alongside Fabregas on stage at the South By Southwest conference in London. Former Inter youth team coach, Cristian Chivu, is another contender to replace Inzaghi and will now come into the club's thinking. The situation is further complicated by the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup with Inter - and Al-Hilal - both set to compete in the 32-team tournament which will take place in the United States.

Chelsea REFUSE to match asking price for Serie A star - and hold further talks over summer move for Premier League striker after confirming £30m Liam Delap signing
Chelsea are refusing to match AC Milan 's asking price for goalkeeper Mike Maignan despite having signed Liam Delap in a cut-price deal. The Blues will not pay the £25million fee which the Italian side have valued their goalkeeper at. Chelsea believe that the French international, who has one year remaining of his contract, is worth nearer to £10m. The 29-year-old is yet to sign a contract extension at AC Milan but no bid has been forthcoming. Maignan moved to Italy four years ago after six seasons with Lille, where he won Ligue 1 in 2021. He lifted the Serie A title with Milan in 2022 and the Supercoppa Italiana in 2024. Chelsea already have five goalkeepers in their squad but none have convinced Blues fans as they prepare for a return to the Champions League next season. Robert Sanchez, Filip Jorgensen, Djordje Petrovic, Mike Penders and Kepa Arrizabalaga are all currently contracted at Stamford Bridge but they have not persuaded the Chelsea hierarchy against looking for another keeper this window. Meanwhile, the west London outfit are also holding talks with Brighton star Joao Pedro. Chelsea are among a number of teams interested and also held a meeting regarding the Brazilian last month. The 23-year-old cost £30m from Watford in 2023 and scored an impressive 10 goals while claiming four assists in the Premier League last season. Chelsea would be willing to offer around £50million with the possibility of other players being offered in the deal, potentially even on loan. Pedro would further boost Chelsea's attack after they completed the signing of Liam Delap from Ipswich on a six-year deal on Wednesday. The 22-year-old became Enzo Maresca's second signing of the summer after they triggered his £30m release clause. The two clubs came to an agreement over Delap last week, and after undergoing a medical he has put pen to paper on a long-term contract at Stamford Bridge. The striker had interest from Manchester United, Newcastle, Nottingham Forest and Everton, after an impressive first full season in the Premier League. Delap scored 12 Premier League goals in 37 appearances after leaving Manchester City last summer. Pep Guardiola's side will receive 30 per cent of the fee as per their sell-on clause.

Djokovic is underrated and still up there with the best says beaten Zverev
PARIS, June 5 (Reuters) - Three-time French Open champion Novak Djokovic is underrated at the age of 38 despite continuing to deliver world class performances, said Germany's Alexander Zverev after his quarter-final loss to the Serbian on Wednesday. The 28-year-old, a finalist last year, was attempting to become only the fourth man in the Open era to reach the French Open semi-finals in five consecutive years, after Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. Instead he bowed out of the tournament, having lost in four sets to Djokovic, who will play Italian world number one Jannik Sinner for a spot in Sunday's final. "I think it was very, very high level from him," Zverev told a press conference. "It was at some point difficult for me." "I, at some point, felt like I didn't know how to win a point from the baseline against him. I thought he was having solutions to a lot of things that I was doing." Djokovic unusually played 35 drop shots in the game, forcing Zverev constantly to the net and mixing up his game to stop the German from pounding him from the baseline. "I think at the moment he's a bit underrated, to be honest," Zverev said of the 38-year-old. "I think like a lot of people count him out already, but this year he's had wins over Carlos (Alcaraz) at the Australian Open, he has had a win over me at the French Open." "Forget the age. I think for any player, those are pretty good results. He is still beating the best of the best, so I think everybody needs to respect that." Former world number one Djokovic is just two matches away from becoming the first player, male or female, to win 25 Grand Slam singles trophies.
