Bizman denied bail in 97cr cheating, intimidation case
Mumbai: A sessions court rejected the bail application of Prabhaadevi-based businessman, Sudhanshumohan Dwivedi, who was arrested by the city crime branch in April for allegedly cheating a businessman of Rs 97 crore.

Dwivedi allegedly promised the businessman huge profits on the trade of grains and threatened him with weapons when questioned. The judge stated that "the accusations against the accused are prima facie well-founded at this stage of the investigation, more particularly when the accused is in the custody of the Enforcement Directorate." The judge further remarked: "There are prima facie and reasonable grounds to believe that the accused committed the offences alleged.
"
Considering the nature and gravity of charges and severity of the punishment, along with "the character, behaviour, position, and standing of the accused," the court found the prosecution's apprehensions to be reasonable.
"Having regard to the nature and gravity of charges and severity of the punishment, the accused is not entitled to bail. Similarly, having regard to the character, behaviour, position, and standing of the accused, the apprehensions of the prosecution are reasonable," the judge said.
The accused is facing charges including criminal breach of trust, criminal intimidation, and offences under the Arms Act. Dwivedi contended that the dispute with the complainant, Gurujit Chhabra, was purely civil. He claimed to have already supplied 75% of the goods to Chhabra against the amount paid. Dwivedi cited various ailments, including high blood pressure, high diabetes, hypertension, and fluids around his chest, arguing that he required medical attention at a hospital of his choice, which was unavailable in jail.

Belagavi: Criminal activities in Belagavi district, which shares its borders with Maharashtra and Goa, has seen an uptick this year, posing a challenge to law-keepers. Faridabad : A 19-year-old Dalit youth was subjected to brutal torture and humiliation by his former friends in Ballabgarh. The victim was not only beaten with sticks but also forced to drink urine and sexually assaulted during the ordeal that took place on June 16. According to police, the teenager was lured from his house in Subhash Colony by Piyush, a former friend, who took him to a room near a local dispensary. There, Piyush and his accomplices allegedly tied him up and unleashed a series of brutal acts — beating him with sticks, forcibly shaving his head, eyebrows, and moustache, and hurling casteist slurs. The assailants allegedly stole Rs 3,000 from his pocket and sexually assaulted him as well. "The victim had recently started hanging out with a different group of youths. This angered Piyush and the others, leading to the eventual assault on him," said a police officer familiar with the case. The teenager had allegedly been assaulted by the same group just a day before the incident. The joint drive, underway since early June, has seen multiple seizures and fines being imposed across the city, with Kolkata Police alone registering 48 cases and carrying out around a dozen seizures in the past week. Officials said the majority of complaints came from residents in south and east Kolkata, particularly during nighttime hours. "All 26 traffic guards in Kolkata are acting against modified silencers, but most seizures have come from South, Park Circus, Sealdah, East, Garia, and Tiljala guards," said a senior officer at Lalbazar. "The Park Circus guard alone seized 15 modified bikes this week, including five on Friday. South guard continues to report the highest volume of cases."
